Baier admits she did damage to Trump.
[quote]“I think she had a mission that she wanted to do,” Baier said after the interview. “Maybe she wanted to have a viral moment or pushback. She came to Fox News and she wanted to have a go-after-Donald-Trump viral moment that plays on a lot of other channels and on social media. She may have gotten that.”
[quote]Harris received rave reviews from across the political world.
Except for our one MAGA troll who is still convinced she bombed.

I feel like if she loses, Tim Walz will be blamed, because it will probably come down to Pennsylvania and people will say she should have picked Shapiro, and I also feel that that is a bit unfair on Tim Walz, because if she loses it will be because she, like Hillary, didn't turn out enough of her base.

Saddened by the old angry white women who screamed "make America great again, Go Trump and laughably Trump 2020!" All the mean men were fat as fuck and the nasty bitches looked like they aged out of being hot shit in the early 90s. It was a great experience such a fun, friendly and beautifully mixed crowd. I guess this is why Leon is offering people $100 each to vote for Trump in PA and WI? (Which is illegal -- someone wake Merrick Garland).
"Bonier: This one surprised even me. I didn’t expect to see this in the data, and part of the reason is we’ve been hearing for almost four years now that Republicans were going to fix their mistakes from last time. They were actually going to push their people to vote early...
Our expectation has been that we should see Republicans accounting for a much larger share of the early vote than we saw four years ago. We can get back to that, but the second element was this case we’ve been hearing—that low-propensity voters, as they call them, voters who generally don’t turn out at higher rates, are actually much more likely to be Trump supporters, especially younger men, especially younger white men.
You’ve seen they’re really spending a lot of time, effort, and energy appealing to these voters. You can argue about whether that’s smart or not, but in the end, if what they’re doing is effective, you should be seeing that show up in the early voting data at this point.
Again, in Pennsylvania and Michigan, these key states, several hundred thousand votes have already been cast, so it’s not a small data set at this point. I was shocked when we looked at the early vote data—especially in Michigan and Pennsylvania—and we looked at these younger voters. We actually saw that the gender gap is actually wider now, with women accounting for an even larger share of the early vote than they were at this point in 2020.
In the end, I probably shouldn’t be surprised, right? We’ve all been talking about this for two years now since Dobbs. The group that has been most energized and activated in this post-Dobbs environment is young women. What it’s telling us is these Republican efforts are failing, and perhaps they’re paying the price for not building a true on-the-ground campaign."
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 18, 2024 12:54 PM |
For Concerned European. Also, remember Trump has n3xt to no ground game in PA.
Pennsylvania appears to be the state where her outreach to Republican voters is working best.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 18, 2024 3:56 PM |
Anyone who’s been paying attention for the last TEN FUCKING YEARS knows that, r41.
He was sayin this election was “rigged” the minute he started running in 2020 after getting cunt punted out of the WH.
He said 2020 was “rigged” THAT entire election season, too.
He’s priming the qult for violence on his behalf AGAIN when he loses AGAIN.
The thugs have been ginning up their fucking cult for YEARS, putting election deniers in place, amassing weapons, holding forums on how to disrupt vote counting (where do you think traitor Flynn has been all this time? That self righteous prick didn’t just slither off under a rock), flooding the media with fake polls to “prove” the election was “stolen” from a goddamned TRAITOR, and other nefarious activities all meant to end democracy.
They were NEVER going to go quietly. We ALL know this. It’s why a bunch of usually “non political” people have been eating the drum about what a threat he is - Generals, business leaders, other country’s leaders, people in his OWN fucking party.
So gird your loins, my man. This is going to be a fight. We probably won’t know the results for weeks while these cunts try to tie everything up in court and throw out votes. Unless, of course, we bury that treasonous sonofabitch in a fucking landslide.
But I will be riding out that storm right here, with you bitches, because there’s no place I’d rather be.

They went to college to find a rich husband and got their MRS. degree. Now, they sit at home, go to luncheons, go to the beauty parlor, and occasionally take the kids from the nanny long enough to be seen in society with them. Do you think that the majority of young Republican white women actually have jobs? No, they are living off their husband's job.

Newsweek::
"Emerson College polling, conducted between October 14 and 16, shows that among undecided voters who chose who they would vote for in the past week or month, 60 percent opted for the Democratic vice president, while 36 percent opted for Republican former President Donald Trump.
Among undecided voters who chose who they would vote for in the past week, 65 percent chose Harris, while 27 percent opted for Trump."
What doomed Hillary Clinton was the way late-breaking undecideds broke heavily for Trump. With both candidates weighted down with heavy negatives, the majority of undecideds opted to take a chance on Trump.

It lists all the candidates, Dem and Rep who are on the ballot. It’s a preview so you don’t go in blind and you can see what and who is on the ballot. They are sometimes even specific to your district.
We can print out the sheets and take them with us when we go vote. Obviously with your choices highlighted or circled.

In California sample ballots are mailed to all registered voters, as well as a 140 page Official Voter Information Guide. It covers all 36 propositions (including official text, potential fiscal effects arguments for and against, as well as a list of endorsing or opposing individuals or groups) and candidate statements for those running for statewide office.
I was shocked when I moved to Indiana where such things didn't exist. At least Illinois sent some information, but the booklet was scanty IIRC.

Hillary was a known quantity, and undecided people opted to take a chance on the “unknown” candidate.
In this election, it’s the opposite. Trump has been President, and people want something else. Even though Harris has been VP, many undecideds admitted they didn’t know much about her.

Rivera calls out Trump's psychopathy, how his policies and plans will harm Americans, and how he is unfat to be POTUS.
"Do the right thing for yourself and your country
She is a warrior and a peacemaker, and I am proud heartily to endorse Kamala Harris for President, but it may not be without complications. When my initial endorsement went viral, a photographer taking my picture for a magazine article about the endorsement asked if I was “worried about retaliation?” By whom? By Donald J. Trump, the once and possibly future president who vows political retribution, and the possible use of military force against the “ enemies within.” When confronted by television’s Dr. Phil about his many menacing statements threatening retaliation, Trump dug in. “Revenge does take time. And sometimes revenge can be justified Phil, I have to be honest, sometimes it can.” It is like the bad old days of Richard Nixon, when commentators opposed to his Administration were placed on the infamous Enemies List. Those listed were often subjected to abnormal attention from the IRS. Tax audits were Nixon’s favorite form of retaliation. Trump who feels he was the victim of unfair scrutiny and a weaponized deep state is more ominous. He makes it sound as if he’s going to get the Godfather’s Luca Brasi or the Proud Boys to perpetrate physical muggings. In addition to his lack of civility, racial stereotyping and sowing division, there are many crucial reasons to choose Harris over Trump. If you have a daughter, and I have three, it cannot be a close question. Only one candidate for president will honor her right to reproductive freedom, and that is Vice President Kamala Harris. In contrast, her opponent, former President Donald Trump is the principal architect of the legal regime that stripped American women of what, for half a century, they believed was a right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, the right to choose for herself to have an abortion or use birth control. By stacking the Supreme Court, President Trump insured that the long arm of government will be in many of your daughter’s bedrooms forever more. True, some states have enshrined reproductive freedom in state constitutional amendments, but many women and even their doctors and care givers remain in jeopardy. So does Obamacare. The Affordable Care Act, which has helped millions receive necessary care and treatment. It remains under assault by Republicans unable to present a reasonable alternative. Blame Donald Trump who tried unsuccessfully to abolish the ACA, and will try again. Even the Child Tax Credit is in continuing peril by conservative think tanks bent on achieving a nation in which compassion is a commodity that has to pay its own way. There’s another political issue. Remember back in the 2000 presidential campaign when then VP Al Gore pretended that he didn’t know Bill Clinton? It was a mistake that overlooked impeached Clinton’s otherwise pretty successful presidency, and it cost Gore the election. Similarly, If I could advise the Harris campaign in these last two weeks before the nation votes again, it would be to embrace President Joe Biden. Aside from the melancholy way in which the old timer was involuntarily cast aside, remember, he’s also had a pretty good presidency. “Bidenomics” largely succeeded in wrestling down inflation. Unemployment and violent crime are also down, China is being confronted, so is Russia, especially in Ukraine, NATO is on sounder footing, and Israel is winning this phase of the unending Holy War. The border is the biggest mess, but the undocumented aren’t “poisoning the blood of the country.” And those who are attempting to exploit the relatively few incidents in which undocumented immigrants commit heinous crimes, they are, in the words of a father of a young woman killed by one, are “heartless” and “despicable.” It is another reason I am voting for her. Donald Trump has thrived on conflict and confrontation. Kamala Harris, as president would seek to heal our divisions and celebrate our unity and patriotism."

If Trump follows through on his plan to remove 20 million people (again, he won't say who, because there aren't even 20 million undocumented immigrants in this country) that means one in every 15 Americans will be disappeared. Every workplace, every classroom, every street
We are talking about armed men coming and grabbing one in fifteen people - young people, old people, workers, mothers, kids, neighbors, customers. It's pure unadulterated insanity, it would destroy the social fabric, crush the economy, and morally stain the country for all time.
And nobody can explain how it's supposed to work, mechanically. You'd have to set up a massive internal security apparatus akin to a totalitarian state. There's nowhere to remove people to, so if you attempt this at scale they're going to end up in concentration camps.
And what happens when you've got a huge class of people living in camps, that the government regards as undesirable outsiders, who the leader regards as genetically inferior? All the questions that start to emerge evoke history's greatest nightmares.
None of this is an exaggeration. This is the stated, explicit plan of Donald Trump. Why isn't there any alarm over, or even any interest in, what he's planning? Don't we deserve to know?"

[quote] I did wonder where Eminem was. I always thought he was a great father and figured he'd be on Team Harris for sure. Nice to see him speaking out.
Eminem is probably the type of dad who respects his daughter's autonomy when it comes to reproductive issues and other gender issues. When I was a teenage girl in the late 90s/ 2000s, I became friends with a girl who came from a very conservative family. Both parents were very strict and controlling. My friend had an older brother and younger sister. She was always upfront that the brother was treated better than the girls in the family. Her parents always spoke to her and her sister in very condescending tones and acted like both girls were morons. Both parents were heavily involved in anti-choice organizations and would attend March for Life type rallies in our state. My friend spent a lot of time at my family's home and admitted to me that she wished her parents were like my parents. She told me how she noticed how my dad wasn't condescending with me/talked down to me. At my friend's house, at meals the mom would make/serve plates for her husband and son and the two girls had to serve themselves. My friend noticed at my house that once the food was set on the table everyone served themselves and got their own glasses of water and beverages. When we each finished our meals, we rinsed off our plates and put them in the dishwasher and at my friend's house she had to always clean up after her dad and brother.
When I was in college, I worked at a call center for a health insurance company. Part of my job involved doing outbound calls to customers to go over coverage/billing for procedures or medications. There were a bunch of times in which young women in the age of 18-22 had their parents on speakerphone and the parents were consedencing with their daughters and would tell me what to say me. The parents on those calls reminded me of my friend's parents. They acted like their daughters couldn't speak/think for themselves at all. There were a few times young men in the same age range had parents butting into CS calls I was conducting, but overall it was more common with young women and their parents. Whenever my employer would have meetings or trainings, the topic of early 20 somethings with nosy parents always came up from different CS agents. The other thing we encountered were moron parents who didn't understand that HIPAA applied to their kids who already over the age of 18 and didn't have HIPAA authorizations on file.
In more recent years, I have noticed that it seems more dads of girls and women are more respectful towards them. Of course, there are still the controlling asshole dads like my middle school/high school friend's dad. I really like the whole "Girl Dads for Harris" movements that been going on in social media and there are men putting up "Girl Dads for Harris" signs up on their lawns. The videos of Tim and Hope Walz are nice to watch because you see a dad who really respect his daughter and is protective, but not condescending or controlling. My dad died last year. He was a moderate Democrat and military veteran. He hated Trump and when Roe vs Wade was overturned in 2022 he couldn't stand how many men were applauding it. He said "It's not my fucking place to tell women what to do with their bodies or whether they should have children or not".
Right now, with the election two weeks away, I'm trying to prepare myself mentally for a possible Trump win, but I want to be in a place where I can sort of shake if off. If Harris wins I will likely cry tears of happiness and sadness. The sadness would come from knowing that my dad and other proud girl dads who have passed on aren't here to see a woman elected president and they aren't here to see people stand up to assholes like Trump, Vance, and others who want to control women. If Trump wins, I could myself feeling a lot of rage, but like I said right now I'm just trying to get myself prepared to deal with a Trump win, but not feel like total shit like I did in 2016.

[quote] The owner of the Los Angeles Times has blocked the paper from endorsing a candidate for president this year.
[quote] Last week, the LA Times published its electoral endorsements for the 2024 election. And while the paper noted in its first line that it is “no exaggeration to say this may be the most consequential election in a generation,” that was the only mention of the presidential race in its endorsements.
[quote] The paper’s editorial board, which has endorsed Democratic candidates in every presidential race since it first endorsed then-Sen. Barack Obama in 2008, was preparing to do so once again this election.
[quote] But according to two people familiar with the situation, executive editor Terry Tang told editorial board staff earlier this month that the paper would not be endorsing a candidate in the presidential election this cycle, a decision that came from the paper’s owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, a doctor who made his fortune in the healthcare industry.

And for all you dumbasses who do not know, I graduated from Howard U, an HBCU, even if you don't think I'm Black, my college was, and I went to the University of California's Hastings College of the Law. I then went to work for the district attorney of Alameda County then the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and later the office of the city attorney of San Francisco. I was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and reelected in 2014. If you do not think I have experience you can lick my multicultural pussy. A pussy that Trump will never grab. In 2017, I was elected to the US Senate from California. I was appointed to the Judiciary Committee, where I made Brett Kavanaugh cry like the little bitch he is. If Black men think I don't have the political cojones to be president, they haven't been paying attention. I will cut Putin's ball off. So, NOW you know me.

R332 I remember that article years ago and it didn't surprise me. I have who immigrated from Germany in the 70s as a young woman. Every other year her siblings and other relatives would come to visit her. and then she would visits in the other years to visit them in Germany. When Trump took office, they didn't want to come here and she said she didn't blame them. She went to Germany for visits from 2017-2019. She didn't travel in 2020-2021 due to COVID and her relatives did visit in late 2022. In late 2017, I was considering a trip to England for 2018 and I remember travel forums had tons of posts from Europeans who said they were avoiding traveling to the US while Trump was in office.
by Anonymous | reply 336 | October 24, 2024 12:07 AM |
I had a second job in a hotel from 2014-2018. When Trump won we lost most of the European tourists and had to run a 3 nights for 2 package to get to fill the rooms in summer. We also started working with an Australian travel agent. My friend stayed there this summer and the Europeans were back! Brits, Spanish, Irish, Dutch. Great to see it but they will be gone again if he wins. This time they may not come back for a long, long time and who could blame them.

Anderson persisted with some odd choices last night. He seemed determined to wrest out of her a concession they should have done something differently and earlier with regard to the border. He wouldn't give up. It was evident he was just determined to get "we should have done something earlier" (so CNN could have the Harris admits or Harris concedes headline, I assume) but it didn't really feel like the right question to dig in on.
That said, she wasn't at her best last night, but it made no difference to the outcome. She certainly had moments of excellence but overall, thirteen days out, she was still not landing answers to some key issues (like the fucking economy.) However, she did no harm at all and as I said, had moments. Still, it left me kinda flat.
TL;DR: I think presidential journalism has to change. What we've got now is of no value. I thought this mostly about the debates but I also thought it last night about Anderson's questions: they're just aiming for the gotcha. They are. Some of the questions in the CBS debate was so ridiculously hypothetical and complicated... it means nothing to the actual audience. It's all about the TV journalists. We should hold a real debate: Healthcare in this country needs to be expanded to ensure no American lacks coverage or NATO is a fundamental element in the United States' nationals security or I would have a member of the opposite party in my Cabinet. Find out what they really think about the substance of governing (or, in the present sense, that one of them can't think at all.)

One other thing: WTF is it with Anderson and his grief obsession. I know what it is, it's his latest tangent. Which is fine... off road. But he pounced last night on a question about Harris' grief after the death of her mother and I'm like what does that have to do with the price of eggs? Jesus, buddy... if it's that bad, up your therapy but stop taking the rest of us with you. I have no patience for that guy's self-indulgence but I guess the bosses can't say anything because he'll cry or something.

As a leftist, I want her to win. I don't care what she says or who she campaigns with because she is running against a cult figure. These are not normal times but 12 days out the NYT is still looking for a gotcha.

Harris hasn’t “courted” Republicans, they came to her because they understand the existential threat of Dump. I swear, the NYT has become such a garbage paper, it boggles the mind. I truly think they decided to run a story with this theme, then found some straggler lefties to fit the narrative. .in fact I don’t see anyone from “the Left” say anything about being alienated.

The Democrats made this a legitimate issue by embracing all things trans and making it a huge part of the Party’s narrative, when in reality few people care about it, and most find it disturbing.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | October 24, 2024 6:03 PM |
They are not targeting people in LA with those ads. That's the problem. They are targeting people in the rust belt who are never around a lot of trans people and couldn't find one to get outraged about. Same with their border ads. People in Iowa and North Dakota reported being more worried about the border than people in Arizona!
by Anonymous | reply 402 | October 24, 2024 6:05 PM |
R401, that’s a load of horseshit. The Repukes are the ones who pushed the Dems into addressing it by running ad after ad claiming men are invading the women’s bathrooms. They stoked fear because that’s what they do. If it wasn’t trans, it’s would be some other issue that stokes fear but has no bearing on the wellbeing of people.

Republicans have no low and will gladly throw any minority groups under the bus in their quest for power. Since Trump hasn't presented any plans other than retribution and tariffs, they're falling back on their tried and true method of culture wars. I wonder if they really think that being anti-trans will seal the deal for them.
Remember, this is the same party that went after gays in the 2004 election with all the same-sex marriage ballot measures meant to turn out their base to vote against it. That worked then, but in 2024, it reeks of last minute desperation. They see women turning out in high numbers to vote for reproductive rights and know most states that have it on the ballot will approve the measures. They've seen how much success the Democrats have had on the issue and need a deflection from their Hitler-admiring cult leader.

This. *Every word*:
"I can't speak about ground game at this point but, in in broader terms, Kamala Harris is running a strategically masterful campaign, one that I believe is of historical importance. The coalition is diverse, both politically & socially, yet it is also incredibly *cohesive.*
Lyz Cheney & other Republicans who are campaigning for Kamala have not asked for policy changes or rhetorical shifts. Abortion rights & LGBTQ rights have not been sacrificed, nor have POC been thrown under the bus. This is to the credit of many, including both Harris & Cheney.
Democratic voters--when we're able to move past depression & panic--are also staying strong. We're calling out propaganda like never before. Yes, the online "left" is attacking us, as is Jill Stein, but they are no longer attacking us from *within*, as they did in 2016.
Rather, due to numerous factors, the online left (not AOC, et al), has been functionally cut-off, for the time-being. They are causing problems, but not problems *w/in* the coalition, as they did, again, in '16, as well as in '20. The coalition is more unified than it's ever been
The media is focussed on bringing Harris down to Trump's level, so as to create a false equivalency. "How does she distinguish herself from Biden?" "Why no interviews?" Etc. Meanwhile, Harris is running a cohesive *Democratic* campaign, w/ Republicans on her side.
Part of the brilliance of the campaign is that Harris, as a Black-Indian American Woman, has been able to center herself as *Who She Is As A Leader*. Her surrogates are functioning as a flanking cavalry. The surrogates are the ones addressing bias related to race & gender.
This gives Harris a "cleanliness." She can stand apart from the attacks b/c the surrogates--the cavalry--are flanking her. I will repeat that Republicans like Cheney have made the choice to join this cavalry without concessions. Which is to Harris's *great* credit as a leader. It is also, as hard as it may be for some of us to say, of great credit to these Republicans.
Harris's campaign is historic because of who she is, as a Black-Indian American Woman. It is historic because of who & what she is fighting: American fascism. It is also historic b/c it involves a *new coalition* that has not involved triangulation anywhere but rhetorically.
Further, this new coalition is remarkably cohesive & laser-focussed. The media is missing a great story here, as they are mired in bias & "horse race" false equivalencies. But the rest of us need not miss the story of this moment, including Harris's excellence in leadership.
What are we, as Democratic voters, going to do as members of this historic coalition? Leaders in the cavalry--from Obama to the Cheneys--are out there building permission structure to vote for Kamala. How are we, as voters, going to join the fight this week?"

When you have to fear death threats or violence for yourself or your loved ones, reprisal or revenge, that's abuse. It's not sustainable for a political party. by Anonymous | reply 495 | October 25, 2024 3:02 PM |
Yes she can win PA if she turns out Philly. They could probably call it quickly if Philly has high turnout and the first counts go overwhelming for Kamala.

Yesterday we did our second sign waving event for Kamala at a busy intersection. Both times we heard gunshotty type noises. Can rednecks make their cars do that on command? Seemed coincidental and intentional. Both times we all bowed up and walked towards the "shots". We all laughed a little and said gunplay wasn't out of the realm of possibility. Nobody screamed, or pissed their pants or anything. We all stayed, undeterred. I can't see a gaggle of Trumpers behaving the same way. Also just as we were packing it in, this guy came to our staging area with an American flag and a Trump flag on his truck and drove around the bank we were parked at like an asshole. I couldn't hear what he was screaming over his engine and tires. As soon as this big Black guy in our group topped the hill, he took off like a pussy, tires smoking. We all laughed some more.

[quote]Among the 15% of voters still not fully decided, Harris is up by 10. Two weeks ago, Trump led them by 1.
That's the whole ballgame right there. An 11-point swing in two weeks is impressive. The NYT/Siena poll is the highest rated poll in the US, so if they are showing this, it means a lot. Emerson College also showed the same thing last week.
Whoever gets the late-breakers wins in a close election. That's how Trump won in 2016. Mitt Romney's former campaign strategist, Stuart Stevens, predicted a few weeks ago that the race would be very close up until the final week and then it would break for Harris.

The punch the LA Times and the Washington Post will take from this from a journalistic credibility standpoint cannot be understated. This is far beyond this election.
No Pulitzer committee will reward this craven behavior, even if the reporting is worthy. And no talented, ambitious journalist will want to work for an organization known for cowardice. It’s an embarrassment and you’ll never be rewarded because no one respects it.
This is what happens when people without a journalistic background - not to mention countless conflicting interests - purchase news organizations.
This is no longer the paper of Woodward and Bernstein. It’s Amazon Post Prime.

Yes, Walmart, who have long been synonymous with employee abuse and general greed, pales in decency and morality compared to Amazon.

I've seen it 68-32 in her favor on another poll. The Tipp Poll which is as right wing as you can get (their homepage articles would make you vomit) was right in the last 2 elections and has her holding a steady lead of 2-3 since the debate. Watch for her to break on that poll next week. If she's up 4,5 on that poll on Nov 1 she's likely to win in a blow out.

The Virginia poll is by crap pollster Quantus. From The New Republic:
[quote]It all went down in mid-September, at a time when the FiveThirtyEight polling averages showed the slightest of leads for Kamala Harris in North Carolina, a must-win state for Trump. Her edge was short-lived: The averages moved back to favoring Trump. And Quantus Insights, a GOP-friendly polling firm, took credit for this development. When a MAGA influencer celebrated the pro-Trump shift on X (formerly Twitter), Quantus’s account responded: “You’re welcome.”
