Driving a stick shift means that the clutch is released simultaneously with the accelerator being depressed when the light changes, assuming that the driver has the shift engaged in first gear at the time (aka "riding the clutch"), otherwise the driver first shifts to first gear, then the clutch is released simultaneously with the accelerator being depressed. This can take a couple of seconds.

To do any of these out of order and too fast results in the vehicle stalling - that's the problem.

I traveled to Egypt last year and I never felt unsafe. The people were kind and helpful. But things were very calm secure, and OMG the people work so hard. Cairo is crowded. 25 million people. And there are clusters of gigantic high rises that make NYC look quaint. We don't know how good we have it until we travel. Another culture totally. I would love to go back. There were four gays ,(two couples in my small group and no one ever made a comment or bothered us at all.
