R20 I was gonna say the same thing. Surely he's had to get used to people judging him negatively based on his appearance, or giving him weird stares (some people aren't subtle at all).

Usually the experience of being judged for something you didn't control and can't change would make someone kinder and less judgemental, whereas that's clearly not the case here.

That said, people who act like that are usually sad inside (otherwise why care so much? Most people are just indifferent) so maybe this is his way of lashing out.

One vet I know , now dead, was pulled out of a burning chopper alive by co workers and the only thing he wore was one boot . Everything else inc his hat was burnt off. He would spend months in a burn unit before he finally died.
