Just now during SNL. What a concept.
First Wicked commercial that actually shows them singing

Did my eyes deceive me or did I see my boyfriend Jonathan Bailey in that trailer?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 13, 2024 9:31 AM |
Flop.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 13, 2024 10:07 AM |
R2, yes he was rehearsing his part in Wicked while filming Fellow Travellers.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 13, 2024 10:48 AM |
This thing is shaping up to be a huge hit it seems like.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 13, 2024 11:24 AM |
Based on what, r5?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | October 13, 2024 11:31 AM |
Fiyero is so faggy, I love it!
r5 I got hit vibes from the first trailer already. Hopefully that ends up being the case because we badly need some colour and joy in our fucking lives. Especially should the worst come to pass on election day.

Squeeeee!

I hope it flops as much as Joker did.

I remember what a shitty actress Ariana was on her various sitcoms. Did anyone check to make sure she can act?

Is the plan still to release the movie in two parts?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 13, 2024 4:21 PM |
I’m usually never wrong. Between my premonitions and presence on social media this film will be a huge success.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 13, 2024 4:26 PM |
Why do gay men pray for gay oriented stuff like this to fail. I don’t plan to see this in theater but what gives. I certainly don’t want it to fail.

2 hour 40 minute movie of only one act!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 13, 2024 8:45 PM |
It's gonna be socko at the BO.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 13, 2024 8:52 PM |

[quote] Is the plan still to release the movie in two parts?
Yes, and it’s directed by a failed director. This is going to be a disaster when all is said and done. It may have a good opening but it’s not going to have legs. They spent way too much on a shitty musical that only appeals to a small amount of the public, and Americans hate musicals. They’re banking on it being a family film. Making it two parts is insane.

I haven’t see Wicked. What makes it “gay-oriented?”
Or is the idea that any musical is gay?
I can get behind that.

Wicked will save Hollywood. Again.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 13, 2024 10:04 PM |

It's a musical based on characters from "The Wizard of Oz," whose 1939 movie adaptation made a star of Judy Garland and introduced her signature song, "Over the Rainbow."
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 13, 2024 10:04 PM |
The two leads are extremely lacking in attractiveness and charisma. Jonathan Bailey, as Fiyero, is too good-looking for either of them.

The sets and costumes look beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 13, 2024 11:27 PM |
I'd want to see it more if 99.3% wasn't greenscreened.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 13, 2024 11:30 PM |
The fact that the gays like the Wizard of Oz doesn’t make Wicked “gay-oriented.” At least not to the extent that we should feel some obligation to support the film.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 13, 2024 11:33 PM |
You must not be a fan of Death Becomes her, r29.

What does that even mean, r32? You're the type of dumbshit who won't watch a movie if it was made three years before you were born? Your loss, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 14, 2024 12:18 AM |
You've never seen a movie "way before your time", r32?

"Crazy Rich Asians" was a hit and how the fuck do you get 'appeals to a small amount of the public" when the show has been playing Broadway for 21 years and over 8000 performances, and has toured all over the country and world. Mental case.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 14, 2024 1:22 AM |
R36, you could say the same thing about Phantom of the Opera, which ran for 35 years and toured all over the country and was a flop domestically.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 14, 2024 1:25 AM |
This is going to be a big fat smash.

Yuck. Today’s musicals are just expensively shot, extended-length music videos with bad sound and lousy singing resembling high school seniors’ glee club warblings.

[quote] The fact that the gays like the Wizard of Oz doesn’t make Wicked “gay-oriented.”
It was written by a gay man and has homosexual subtext.

R36, he directed the following flops:
Jem and Holograms (one of the biggest disasters in film history)
In the Heights
Two Justin Bieber films
His CV is incredibly short. The film looks like crap. Too much CGI and anyone who casts Bowen Yang is a moron.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 14, 2024 3:48 AM |
They spent over $300 million on these films. Heads are gonna roll.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 14, 2024 3:50 AM |
If the first half is a flop, will the studio wait another year to release Flop, part two?
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 14, 2024 4:18 AM |
R25- None of that is gay-oriented.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 14, 2024 7:49 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 14, 2024 7:52 AM |

R42, Jem and the Holograms was indeed a terrible movie, but calling it one of the biggest disasters in film history is a lot just to try to prove your point.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 14, 2024 9:03 AM |
Kids love the show. Gen X and older gays largely don't, and y'all are going to bitch the whole way because you can't help but dwell. It's going to be delicious to watch.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 14, 2024 9:13 AM |
r29 It isn't greenscreened though. Whatever other criticisms it deserves, they went all-in on physical sets

So explain it. The argument that gay men like the Wizard of Oz so a film of a musical based on Oz is “gay oriented” is weak. If there is a “gay subtext” what is it for those of us unfamiliar with the story.
The days when gay people had to search for hidden subtexts in fiction are over. We aren’t invisible any more.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 14, 2024 2:00 PM |
It IS possible that a gay message board is not best placed to make an accurate prediction about the fate of a movie whose key demographic is tween and teen girls.
I think the "gay subtext" person might mean that Elphaba's outsider status=how gay people felt before equal marriage rights came in, which is rather an outdated argument. But if you fixate on Elphaba instead of the relationship BETWEEN Elphaba and Glinda, you miss what is attracting the show's audience. Same as in Frozen if you fixate on Elsa's alienating powers: both shows are really about the redeeming power of sisterly love. Which, we have to admit, is not DL's area of expertise. Not enough pointless bitchery.
If the Elphaba/Glinda balance is off, or gets lost in the busyness of a big production, that's when the film might not succeed. Cutting the story in two is risky, but because so many people have seen the show worldwide right now it probably won't be fatal, and in the future people will just stream both halves.
