I will never understand what it is that people find so fascinating about the malnourished, plain, anodyne and rather unpleasant horse-face that was Carolyn Bessette. I understand that American people are obsessed with the Kennedy family's alleged mystique and their status as the closest they have to native royalty, but marrying a Kennedy surely shouldn't be enough to turn any random half-baked oatmeal dullard into an icon.

I admired CBK's sartorial restraint. I enjoyed looking at the latest pix of what she wore when out and about and her street style.

I put her taste and style down to being shrewd. She was self-aware. She was entitled.

She knew she possessed all the valued status signifiers- White, Blonde and Tall. That accessory known as JFK, Jr. hanging off her arm didn't hurt, either.

Therefore, of course she was a minimalist with her clothing style. She knew, with all she had going, she needed no extraneous texture.
