Siesta Key…

None of the networks, including the Weather Channel, have reports on the conditions in Siesta Key after the eye wall went through. Coverage is focused on Fort Myers, Port Charlotte and the Tampa-St.Pete area. Nothing about Sarasota has been reported. It was the center of the storm.

A family member has a house right on the beach on Siesta Key. They are clamoring for information their house is still there. I know everyone is waiting for daybreak, but does anyone have any information about the damage to Siesta Key?

Who cares? It’ll be cleaned up in time for the snowbirds.

It’s not gonna be “gone,” but it might have a new shape.

Oddly, it seems that Siesta Key got it worse from Helene than from Milton. Still bad, flood damage and debris everywhere, but the island is still Siesta Key, shape intact. Here's one story...

Thank you everyone! The house had some damage on the first floor. The surge went about two feet up and most furniture needs to be replaced, but it survived. R12 provided the best information. Siesta Village survived. The Dacquiri Deck, Big Olaf's, the Broken Egg, all with minor damage. Siesta Drive, in front of the public beach, is still flooded. We were there just three months ago.

In the comments on that page, others were also angry the news stations alternated between Tampa/St. Pete and Fort Myers, ignoring the Sarasota area. We are all relieved we didn't get the worst of it. The center of the eye passed over the island, which probably reduced the damage.
