Day 3 of zero sugar…

And I’m absolutely miserable & exhausted!

I will power through, however.

I was diagnosed with shingles 4 weeks ago, & took my medications religiously to the “T”. The one thing I hadn’t done was quit drinking cokes throughout the day. I suspect that this is why I woke up on Monday morning, to find a whole new set of shingles on my jawline, neck, shoulder & clavicle. I cannot even begin to express how painful it is to have shingles on your jawline. Talking, drinking water, or eating food is excruciating.

Anyhow, I had already done some research on how sugar & diabetes can predispose one to shingles (with a previous bout of Chicken Pox as a precursor), & I threw out all of my remaining cans of coke, as well as sugary drinks/juices before Monday morning, & I’m on day 3 sans sugar today!

I ended up with more anti-virals, & my doctor FINALLY agreed to another round of Vicodin, due to how painful it is to talk, eat, or wear clothing that covers up my left shoulder. I’m utterly grateful, & the blisters on my neck have started heal. Hopefully, the ones on my jawline, shoulder & clavicle will quickly follow. I believe they will, due to zero sugar.

I’ve had blood tests ran for pretty much everything, & every single panel came back within normal range, except for Type 2 Diabetes.

I’m writing this in order to encourage other sugar & processed foods addicts on here, by sharing how these things can absolutely wreak havoc on your health. When I got sober last October, I replaced booze with Coke-a-Cola, which is as insidious as alcohol, sans hangovers & alcohol bloat. Almost a year later, I’m experiencing health set backs, all due to sugar! ☹️

Sugar truly is a silent killer, & it’s 100% worth quitting.

Yes, yes. Tell me more.

Baby, sugar is not your biggest problem.

by Anonymousreply 2October 9, 2024 5:13 PM

So sorry. Shingles is a beast.

But I have to say, the horse has left the barn, you do have shingles, so why go all sudden and drastic with your diet when your body is already in crisis and needing to stabilize? Seems like going hardcore zero-sugar has added to the suffering.

Hope you feel better OP. Yeah you can’t truly get rid of sugar without eliminating sodas. Btw shingles IS the chicken pox in later years. You cannot get shingles without ever having gotten the chicken pox. Do kids today still get chicken pox like in the past. Seems like they don’t.

Addressing 1 problem at a time, bitches @ R1 & R2.

I hope "being a preachy bore" is next on your list of problems to address.

The chicken pox created a beautiful beauty mark on my face just like the Aaron Hernandez actor. I pray I never get shingles. I lose my mind even when I itch a little bit. OP try some CBD cream and edibles with both THC and CBD.

R3, because excessive amounts of sugar can trigger and/or elongate breakouts. I’m addicted to Cokes, & it was just time.

R4, yes - I know. It’s a different version of the Chicken Pox, however.

R6, it’s on the list!

R7, thanks for the suggestions, however I’m sober, so no edibles or creams for me.

R8 Sober from what? Do you have addiction issues or a job which regularly pisses you or something. I say that because I struggle with addiction and weed/THC is the one substance that never makes me want to use harder stuff. Cigarettes sometimes make me want to have a drink over weed.
