They didn't believe me

This weekend I came out to a group of my closest friends before doing it publicly this Friday. Not one of them had any suspicions. Some thought I was joking, both men and women. Apparently I was really good at hiding at the back of the closet.

by Anonymousreply 46October 9, 2024 3:36 PM

Congrats to you OP. Some of my straight bros still didn’t believe me after I came out for up to a year.

by Anonymousreply 1October 8, 2024 11:04 PM

This, bizarrely, sounds like humblebrag. And yet also highly doubtful.

by Anonymousreply 2October 8, 2024 11:07 PM

OP here. I didn't mean as a humblebrag. I was astonished. I thought surely at least one (or all) wondered why I have never had a girlfriend. I grew up with them. A couple were major homophones in our youth. I was always terrified of being outted.

by Anonymousreply 3October 8, 2024 11:35 PM

R1. I'm sure they knew by your speech patterns. Just stop.

by Anonymousreply 4October 8, 2024 11:39 PM

How old are you OP?

How can you be close to your friends and they don't know?

by Anonymousreply 5October 8, 2024 11:41 PM

Did you present hole to convince them?

by Anonymousreply 6October 8, 2024 11:41 PM

They were just trying to boost your sense of (non-existent ) masculinity. Your pinging sets cell towers aflame.

by Anonymousreply 7October 8, 2024 11:43 PM

What are they, headless???

by Anonymousreply 8October 8, 2024 11:45 PM

[quote] A couple were major homophones in our youth.

Were they guys or guise?

by Anonymousreply 9October 8, 2024 11:50 PM

[quote] Congrats to you OP. Some of my straight bros still didn’t believe me after I came out for up to a year.—Blackmussy

No, they didn't believe you were black and not in your 60s. Because you aren't.

They had no trouble believing you were a big gay drama queen junkie.

by Anonymousreply 10October 8, 2024 11:52 PM

I came out and for what. It turns about it hardly attracted to anything. “Hello, world 99% of you turn me off. Where’s my flag now?”

by Anonymousreply 11October 8, 2024 11:54 PM

Turns out I'm* note the angst

by Anonymousreply 12October 8, 2024 11:55 PM

Oh, God, I don’t have anything but blue jeans to wear on ‘Coming Out Day’. I have no choice now but to play hooky. It’s not like I can show up to class BOTTOMLESS!

by Anonymousreply 13October 8, 2024 11:57 PM

You’ve been hiding the mineral water, huh?

by Anonymousreply 14October 9, 2024 12:01 AM

OP, so either you've been lying to your closest friends for years, they've been lying to you pretending they don't know, or both. It's like an Oscar Wilde play.

by Anonymousreply 15October 9, 2024 1:13 AM

Then was it a smart decision? Should have cleaned your closet first

by Anonymousreply 16October 9, 2024 1:18 AM

Well, OP, I'm glad you don't have to hide who you are, now. I've had friends and relatives who are still hiding it. I feel very bad that they feel like they have to. My BIL, is 85 retired from the Marines and hid it whole life and still is. I can't imagine having to marry someone you care about, but were never in love with just to satisfy other people's expectations. I can't even imagine.

by Anonymousreply 17October 9, 2024 1:28 AM

You were just confirming what we already knew for years.

by Anonymousreply 18October 9, 2024 1:29 AM

Are you a hot looking bro type, R18. These are always gay or on the down low.

by Anonymousreply 19October 9, 2024 1:32 AM

^I meant OP

by Anonymousreply 20October 9, 2024 1:32 AM

You’re so effeminate that they assumed you were trans and never entertained the idea you might be a gay make.

by Anonymousreply 21October 9, 2024 1:33 AM

How old are you OP?

by Anonymousreply 22October 9, 2024 1:47 AM

2/10

by Anonymousreply 23October 9, 2024 1:54 AM

I did the same thing op only I told them I am straight. They didn’t believe me either

by Anonymousreply 24October 9, 2024 1:56 AM

If you had any gay friends they would have known instantly.

by Anonymousreply 25October 9, 2024 1:58 AM

What age are you OP?

by Anonymousreply 26October 9, 2024 2:01 AM

I have a friend, he’s actually the ex of one of my best friends. Apart from the two of us (my close friend and me), he is not out to anyone in his life.

He has his own group of friends he’s been hanging out with since college (he’s now around 30) and allegedly they have no clue he’s gay. He’s content to keep that secret for the rest of his life. I don’t get it at all.

by Anonymousreply 27October 9, 2024 3:03 AM

OP again. I am 50. The only "hgeterosexual" friend that said he knew I was hiding then outted himself to me 30 seconds after I told him. I had no idea that he wasn't straight.

by Anonymousreply 28October 9, 2024 3:05 AM

You're 50! What a coward R28. You're pathetic.

Also - you sound like a teacake sock account. It's so boring.

by Anonymousreply 29October 9, 2024 3:11 AM

R29- What the hell is a “teacake sock” account?

by Anonymousreply 30October 9, 2024 3:34 AM

Sure, Jan/R30.

by Anonymousreply 31October 9, 2024 3:51 AM

It could be said that by age 50 a particular type of person - generally those who have something to hide - has wizened their group of closest associates down to a select few who are never challenge or pushback. They have unconsciously created this bubble to protect themselves from being unmasked.

Regardless of whether this applies to you or not OP, you have very polite friends.

by Anonymousreply 32October 9, 2024 4:02 AM

Does OP really have any friends if he has lied to everyone about who he is all of his life right up to the age of 50 R32?

OP has people in his life who don't care about him. i.e. no friends.

by Anonymousreply 33October 9, 2024 4:09 AM

Is OP Diddy.

by Anonymousreply 34October 9, 2024 4:11 AM

OP is teacake R34.

by Anonymousreply 35October 9, 2024 4:13 AM

We knew.

by Anonymousreply 36October 9, 2024 5:40 AM

Of course it's Teafake. He immediately answered himself as R1. That's a tell tale sign...

by Anonymousreply 37October 9, 2024 7:14 AM

Did you show them the contents of your night stand?

by Anonymousreply 38October 9, 2024 7:20 AM

dumb thread created by the village idiot at DL

by Anonymousreply 39October 9, 2024 8:00 AM

R10.

No, 0/10.

by Anonymousreply 41October 9, 2024 11:18 AM

OP, are these the same friends who don't believe the Earth is round and that dinosaurs never existed?

by Anonymousreply 42October 9, 2024 12:54 PM

Teafake loves replying to herself.

by Anonymousreply 43October 9, 2024 12:58 PM

[quote]They didn't believe me

And we are unanimous in that!

by Anonymousreply 44October 9, 2024 1:00 PM

This happened several times when I was younger, and I foolishly took it as a compliment. Of course, as I got older, I realized it had way more to do with THEIR hang-ups and prejudices than MY awesomeness.

by Anonymousreply 45October 9, 2024 1:59 PM

Maybe it's not true, OP... maybe you are now a closeted straight?
