She was raised in the 50s, not pregnant then.

LOVE HER!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 8, 2024 3:50 AM |
R1. Well, whenever she had the abortion. It was right before she got the role of "Gidget."
The point of the story is what she had to go through to get an abortion when it was illegal.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 8, 2024 3:51 AM |
She found herself pregnant.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 8, 2024 3:59 AM |
What a frightening sounding experience.

Sally had an abortion as a pre-teen in the 50s?
Not sure that is the most marketable story in the abortion debate.
Or maybe OP is just confused.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 8, 2024 4:21 AM |
She was 14, that's sad.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 8, 2024 4:24 AM |
14 wtf
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 8, 2024 4:25 AM |
Good for her for sharing but found herself pregnant? Um no. She took a load inside her. She didn't just find it.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 8, 2024 4:25 AM |
Did anyone else read her autobio, "In Pieces"? She had a rather fucked up childhood...
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 8, 2024 4:25 AM |
She mentioned the abortion in her book a few years ago. Amazon was flooded with hateful Christian/religious comments in the reviews.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 8, 2024 4:26 AM |
She says she was 17.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 8, 2024 4:36 AM |
R13, thus said abortion occurred circa 1963.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 8, 2024 4:38 AM |
I keep meaning to read it r11. Fucked up childhood? Poor Sally. :-(
Is it worth buying or should I just check it out from the library?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 8, 2024 4:42 AM |
Helen Lawson arranged the abortion for Sally. It was the same guy Helen had been using for years.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 8, 2024 4:53 AM |
You can tell by the way she can’t even look at the camera, she’s hunched over, that she’s still traumatized by the experience. It’s not until the end that she straightens up to say she got the all-American girl role of Gidget. 17 years old. Whole life ahead of her.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 8, 2024 5:01 AM |
Gidget wasn’t a great show, but abortion seems a bit harsh.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 8, 2024 5:04 AM |
So cute, still.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 8, 2024 5:07 AM |
R18, thankfully they tackled the whole abortion issue on The Flying Nun instead!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 8, 2024 5:08 AM |
It's been rumored for years the the guy who impregnated her was either Jack Lord or Nipsey Russell.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 8, 2024 5:08 AM |
Was the father her step-father, Jock Mahoney? She says he sexually abused her during her childhood. Did it persist into her teen years and she never told her mother? Her mother and step-father didn't divorce until 1968.
I may have misheard her, but I got the impression that she was saying they were poor. Both her parents were working actors.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 8, 2024 5:29 AM |
Cool story, bro...
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 8, 2024 5:42 AM |
wtf r24
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 8, 2024 5:47 AM |
Jesus, you people. Whatever the year. The point of the story is that abortion was illegal at the time, and Sally was telling about what she had to go through back then.
And we cannot go back to those times.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 8, 2024 5:49 AM |
It's insane that Republicans are even still a thing. Sally Field is a treasure. Everyone knows someone who had an abortion. Chances are It's someone you love.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 8, 2024 5:55 AM |
Was she riding in cars with boys?!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 8, 2024 6:09 AM |
When the doctor asked what he could do for her she scribbled "Separation" on a piece of paper, stood on his desk and held up the sign to him.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 8, 2024 8:12 AM |
OP, What? She was born in 1946!
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 8, 2024 8:16 AM |
At least she didn’t abort her homo son.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 8, 2024 8:16 AM |
So cute, still.
She's a great example of how long "cute" can last on a woman. Beauty tends to fade, but cute can go on almost indefinitely.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 8, 2024 8:20 AM |
R15. I think if you check it out from the library that will be sufficient.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 8, 2024 9:22 AM |
I always wondered where I had misplaced that wire hanger….and why sometimes Sally could pickup BBC Radio when she uncrossed her legs.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 8, 2024 9:58 AM |
Even as a bitter elder gay man who hates children, this touched me. 😢
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 8, 2024 10:27 AM |
Helen Lawson arranged the abortion for Sally. It was the same guy Helen had been using for years.
And that little cunt couldn't even be bothered to get me a guest spot on one of her crappy sitcoms. That's gratitude for you. I wonder if she knows I'm the one who shit in her cornet while she was doing "The Flying Nun."
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 8, 2024 4:28 PM |
R36. Didn't Marge Redmond hold it while you squatted?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 8, 2024 5:33 PM |
R38. He use to wrap Sal up in dry cleaning plastic or shower curtains and then rub up against her. Is that a perv thing to do?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 8, 2024 6:11 PM |
I’m Reaching out my invisible hands…TO ABORT YOU!!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 8, 2024 6:23 PM |
Didn’t have to keep it. Wouldn’t put you through it. You could have swept it from your life, but you wouldn’t do it…oh, you went and done it? Now you had my abortion!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 8, 2024 7:33 PM |
R21 Nipsey Russell, not to be confused with Nipsey Hussle (RIP).
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 8, 2024 8:14 PM |
Why can't I write shit like this?
In all seriousness, sounds horrific, and for more than Sally, imagine being in that car. That Dr had to have done this before, and was clearly aware of the risks. I do wonder, why (lack of experience and education?) that Dr didn't either do it himself or have a colleague who did them, on the DL (although botched jobs happened often enough with celebs who were handled by the major picture studios, I'd have thought some underground network would've been in place).
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 8, 2024 9:07 PM |
Good thing for Sally that she wasn't made infertile by that back alley abortion. Jane Russell's abortion went so badly that she was never able to have kids, and later became a staunch anti-abortion Republican.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 9, 2024 1:10 AM |
R44, that's not a great pic of him. He was a hunky dude, even into middle age.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 9, 2024 1:14 AM |
He faired better than some of the other Tarzans in the looks dept into old age.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 9, 2024 1:14 AM |
*fared
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 9, 2024 1:15 AM |
I really appreciate Sally doing this. People get so burned out on celebrity endorsements, and part of the reason is because we think of that celebrity as they are now: wealthy and successful. They seem immune from the potential problems that may arise if the tax rate goes up or if the price of food rises. But if more celebrities would share stories like this, then it would legitimize why they are endorsing their chosen candidate, and why we should give a shit.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 9, 2024 1:36 AM |
Myrna Loy was also barren because of an illegal abortion.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 9, 2024 1:52 AM |
Polly Bergen too.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 9, 2024 1:56 AM |
Joan Crawford was barren because of an illegal abortion
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 9, 2024 2:26 AM |
Karen Grassle had a number of illegal abortions. Her book is nothing but cheap, taudry details...
Joan Crawford was barren because of an illegal abortion
A blessing in disguise.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 9, 2024 2:33 AM |
"Barren"? What year is this?
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 9, 2024 2:50 AM |
Oh, I see -- you meant [italic]John[/italic] Barron!
Good for her for sharing but found herself pregnant? Um no. She took a load inside her. She didn't just find it.
Or she was raped or assaulted or coerced. I would not presume the consent that having "took a load inside her" would entail.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 9, 2024 10:16 PM |
Patty Duke had something to do with this.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 9, 2024 10:20 PM |

Her homo son is her penance for the abortion.

by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 9, 2024 10:29 PM |
R59 hon if she was raped or molested that would have been part of the disclaimer. "Found herself" is code for don't judge her for doing what everyone in the world has always done.
