How did Beyoncé get so popular?

I have nothing against her and I even bought her first album. But she ain’t no Madonna or Michael Jackson. Hell, she ain’t even a Paula Abdul.

Single Ladies was lame. Girls Rule the World was even worse. Even more confusing is the fact that she’s trying to look white, which you’d think would piss off black people. How can she have this enduring level of fame when her songs sound like someone put 5 minutes of effort into them?

by Anonymousreply 84October 30, 2024 3:23 PM

I've hated her ever since I saw her knocking down the Christmas tree on an episode of Punk'd back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 1October 7, 2024 9:48 PM

I don’t know why. A deal with the devil 😈.

by Anonymousreply 2October 7, 2024 9:59 PM

Fucked if I know.

by Anonymousreply 3October 7, 2024 10:23 PM

r1 I FUCKING HATE THAT SONG WITH WHITE HOT INTENSITY OF A THOUSAND SUNS.

And her too. She really needs to go away.

by Anonymousreply 4October 7, 2024 10:33 PM

^^i meant to address that to OP.

Single Ladies was the song I was referring to.

by Anonymousreply 5October 7, 2024 10:36 PM

Two guesses. Either she sold her soul to the devil, or Tina Knowles sold her daughter’s pussy to Jay Z.

by Anonymousreply 6October 7, 2024 11:52 PM

I feel the same way about Taylor Swift. I don't get it, but then I am not really in the demographics that they are marketed to. I just don't see what makes her so great. And I despise the Hive. Hate those cunts more than I dislike Bey.

by Anonymousreply 7October 7, 2024 11:54 PM

This is a really ignorant comment. Just because you don’t like her doesn’t mean she doesn’t deserve her popularity. Obviously millions of fans think these songs are awesome. And saying she is trying to look white…? What a shit stirrer you are OP.

by Anonymousreply 8October 8, 2024 12:04 AM

^^Teacake

by Anonymousreply 9October 8, 2024 12:17 AM

Because of even more mediocre competition and their fans, OP??

by Anonymousreply 10October 8, 2024 12:21 AM

Worst songs under a single artist ever. Her music sucks.

by Anonymousreply 11October 8, 2024 12:22 AM

I am a 70 year old white guy. I don't give a shit about her.

by Anonymousreply 12October 8, 2024 12:24 AM

r8 "And saying she is trying to look white…?"

I wonder why OP would write that!?

"Single Ladies was lame"

and it took a combined 5 people to come up with that shit

by Anonymousreply 14October 8, 2024 12:32 AM

It’s a look R13. She changes her hair and look often. would you say a woman who dyes her hair dark or gets a perm was trying to look Black?

by Anonymousreply 15October 8, 2024 12:43 AM

I'll do something very un-DL: I think Cowboy Carter is a fantastic album -- I have listened to ir regularly start to finish, and there's some flab in there, but mostly excellent singing and songwriting...

And she's a big supporter of the gays, and she works hard, and...I don't get why the hate on DL for her?

by Anonymousreply 16October 8, 2024 12:49 AM

Her voice isn't horrible and she's pretty and can dance.

by Anonymousreply 17October 8, 2024 12:55 AM

I think her father, record label and Jay Z all made sure to squash whatever competition she might’ve had. She had a really good PR team. Destiny’s Child was obviously a set up to launch her solo career.

Once she began her solo career, there were dozens of female R&B singers who sounded exactly like her and their careers all mysteriously faded away. Rihanna is somehow the only one who survived.

She remained on top until about 2016. I don’t think she is as popular now as she used to be.

by Anonymousreply 18October 8, 2024 12:56 AM

I can understand Beyonce being popular but not Taylor Swift. The thing is The Swifties are a cult.

by Anonymousreply 19October 8, 2024 12:59 AM

Beyonce is a good singer and dancer but a SPECTACULAR performer. Truly peerless as a live entertainer. I like her and I know many people who LOVE her. The acclaim and fanaticism does not surprise me at all.

by Anonymousreply 20October 8, 2024 1:00 AM

r15 If they altered the color of their skin and had plastic surgery as well, then yes

R19, true, but so is the Beyhive.

by Anonymousreply 24October 8, 2024 2:27 AM

[quote] But she ain’t no Madonna or Michael Jackson. Hell, she ain’t even a Paula Abdul.

Those people are from a different generation. Time marches forward. It's natural and it happens.

Beyonce is an elder millennial and that generation grew up listening to her.

She made music you can dance to when she was younger, she can sing well, she dances well enough, she puts on an amazing show and stays out of nearly everything. That woman is media trained within an inch of her life. I have no idea how she really feels about anything so there's no reason to ever truly hate her for something she said.

However, the real kicker is, she topped and mostly outlasted all of her contemporaries as a performer.

This commercial is like a time capsule.

Freedom is a good song and I'm glad that she gave Kamala the right to use it.

by Anonymousreply 26October 8, 2024 2:44 AM

R25 I am the exact same age as Beyoncé and I can assure you I grew up listing to Madonna, Michael, Janet, Paula Abdul, etc. Then later it was Garbage, Alanis, etc. My sister 9 years younger than me listened to Destiny’s Child.

by Anonymousreply 27October 8, 2024 2:46 AM

Sasha Fierce.

by Anonymousreply 28October 8, 2024 2:57 AM

[quote]Either she sold her soul to the devil, or Tina Knowles sold her daughter’s pussy to Jay Z.

Beyonce was plenty popular before she dated Jay.

by Anonymousreply 29October 8, 2024 3:28 AM

She's not "popular" these days.

by Anonymousreply 30October 8, 2024 3:39 AM

Puffs other shoe bout to drop.

Keep Pimpin while you still can, Illuminati heauxs.

You're welcome.

You mean, as somehow opposed to the fans who refer to Beyoncé as "Queen"?

by Anonymousreply 33October 8, 2024 3:53 AM

Beyonce is not that original

R27, thank you for the bio. I'm not sure why you wrote that, but okay.

by Anonymousreply 37October 9, 2024 1:57 AM

R37 You yourself said that elder millennials didn’t listen to Madonna and Michael and Janet and Paula Abdul. We very much did.

by Anonymousreply 38October 9, 2024 11:05 PM

She ain’t no Paula Abdul? Oh my.

by Anonymousreply 39October 9, 2024 11:30 PM

There’s a Facebook page celebrating Blue Ivy’s success with modeling and songwriting. They also mention her supposed net worth of $500M. And people are getting angry at posters saying that she’s a nepo baby. Well, she is.

by Anonymousreply 40October 10, 2024 12:09 AM

[quote]You yourself said that elder millennials didn’t listen to Madonna and Michael and Janet and Paula Abdul. We very much did.

R38, dear. That's not what I said.

I said Elder Millennials grew up listening to her and NOT that they didn't listen to the other people.

You may not have actively been seeking out her music, but Destiny's Child was playing everywhere, in "malls" and "shopping outlets," on television and on the radio.

There's a difference between being around (and aware) at the middle or end of someone's career and being around for its entirety. Beyonce came along at the right time to be exposed to a whole bunch of other people through technology that eventually altered the industry forever.

by Anonymousreply 41October 10, 2024 2:24 AM

Gen Xers grumpin’ about Beyonce is like Boomers 30-35 years ago grumpin’ about Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 42October 10, 2024 2:30 AM

^^^ I think it's Boomers griping about Beyonce. GenX-ers are into her. She was burning up the clubs when we were still young and hanging out. I am only 12 years older than Bey.

by Anonymousreply 43October 10, 2024 3:03 AM

She is not popular at my house

by Anonymousreply 44October 10, 2024 3:09 AM

[quote] She is not popular at my house

Yes, well, the Golden Girls Senior Living Oasis in Lake City, FL is not her target demo.

by Anonymousreply 45October 11, 2024 2:25 PM

I’m a little confused by her popularity too. Not why people like her but why she’s considered so big. Crazy in Love and Single Ladies were everywhere back in the day. But I feel like her most recent albums haven’t generated anything that’s been a massive single. For all the media hype that Lemonade got, I’m not sure I could tell you a single song from that album.

by Anonymousreply 46October 11, 2024 2:29 PM

I don't get it either but I also don't get Swift's popularity. I've only ever heard Single Ladies, which is terrible, and Shake it Off, also terrible. The allure beats the hell out of me. I don't remember ever hearing anything about Destiny's Child. The cults surrounding them are as stupid as magats.

by Anonymousreply 47October 11, 2024 2:42 PM

R47 Because today’s generation is boring AF. All they’ve ever known is bland entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 48October 11, 2024 2:46 PM

Whenever I discover a young gayling worships Beyonce, I lose respect for him.

by Anonymousreply 49October 11, 2024 3:15 PM

She very talented but the amount of attention and deference she gets I do not understand.

by Anonymousreply 50October 11, 2024 3:17 PM

People read too much into what Beyonce does. Cult worship has gotten out of hand.

by Anonymousreply 51October 11, 2024 10:32 PM

She sounds like any number of other singers It explains why I don't care for her and probably also why she's popular.

by Anonymousreply 52October 11, 2024 10:39 PM

A Decade Later, Beyoncé Is Still Pushing To Get A Trademark on Daughter Blue Ivy’s Name

More than a dozen years after Beyoncé applied to secure trademark protections on her daughter's name, lawyers for the superstar are still arguing with the trademark office.

She's fine. But the fact she's seen as some goddess has never made sense. I find her the fourth most interesting pop star from her peak era:

I always liked Rihanna's singles more, Gaga's albums more and Adele's voice more.

(I totally agree with others RE Swift. I get why she has a career. I don't get why she's the biggest thing since MJ fifteen years into her career. It just never happens that way.)

by Anonymousreply 54October 28, 2024 10:18 PM

The Queen never tries to look white. She looks like what the fuck she is.

by Anonymousreply 55October 28, 2024 10:21 PM

I don’t find Beyoncé of Taylor Swift especially talented. It’s a mystery to me why they are so popular And yes R8, Beyoncé does try hard to look white….she never shows her natural hair and wears mostly blondish wigs and her skin gets lighter every time I see her

by Anonymousreply 56October 28, 2024 10:22 PM

Who else but the Queen could pull this off. That’s why she is so mafuckin respected. Beyoncé wears the same blonde weaves that every black chica, Latina, hell Italian-American white girls in the industry have worn for the past 60 years. She is just a beautiful bitch so people say she tryna be white. I don’t think Michele Obama would want to be Beyoncé if she could be anyone else in the world if she thought the Queen was self hating.

R49 and the young gayling wishes you would stop eye fucking him 😆

by Anonymousreply 58October 28, 2024 10:33 PM

When white girls tan and have their makeup artist contour their face so it looks like they have lips are they tryna be black? Ironically the Queen use to routinely wear bronze tanner because her skin is pale during the non summer months, especially since she no longer lived in Texas. She used to be hella self conscious about it.

by Anonymousreply 59October 28, 2024 10:36 PM

Beyoncé has even had rhinoplasty. I think Kelly Rowland did too. The weaves and lacefront wigs are a bit OTT but an entertainer’s hair takes a beating so in that regard it makes sense to wear them.

by Anonymousreply 60October 29, 2024 1:33 AM

The Queen aint never had work done. Stop them lies.

by Anonymousreply 61October 29, 2024 1:35 AM

Taylor Swift outlasted Gaga, Rhianna and Katy Perry and that's why she's so popular.

by Anonymousreply 62October 29, 2024 2:32 AM

How did she get so popular ? The old fashioned way - she 'put out' with the bigwigs in Hollywood.

by Anonymousreply 63October 29, 2024 3:18 AM

R62 I really wouldn’t say Tay outlasted Rih. Rih came out several years before her and has essentially just stopped putting out music. Rih like Queen Bey has never had a flop era.

by Anonymousreply 64October 29, 2024 4:35 AM

R54 The reason why the Queen is seen as a Goddess is because she had an entire decade of critically acclaimed commercially successful albums without really being a staple on pop radio. Then she is elusive, won’t give interviews, doesn’t tweet. She only posts pictures on Instagram and follows NO ONE, not even her own husband. Over 250 million followers and she follows no one else. That’s why she is a goddess.

by Anonymousreply 65October 29, 2024 4:39 AM

Just like Adele said when she upset at her at the Grammys “You are the guiding light that all us artists follow”.

by Anonymousreply 66October 29, 2024 4:40 AM

Dump better keep the Queen’s name out his mouth before Jay has to contact the Black Mafia and do want the Clintons weren’t able to do lol.

by Anonymousreply 67October 29, 2024 4:41 AM

She doesn’t give interviews because she nothing to say. Her songs are written by committee. She doesn’t have an authentic bone in her body. Totally manufactured product.

by Anonymousreply 68October 29, 2024 8:17 AM

Beyoncé and Taylor are so popular because their competition is really terrible. They are mediocre but became superstars because there’s nobody better.

by Anonymousreply 69October 29, 2024 8:26 AM

She got ahead the old fashioned way - by sleeping with Berry Gordy, silly !

by Anonymousreply 70October 30, 2024 12:52 AM

See how the stans are? Unbalanced and hostile, like Prince Akeem…but keep it up; it’s almost like performance art.

by Anonymousreply 71October 30, 2024 1:46 AM

r55 lol

by Anonymousreply 72October 30, 2024 2:15 AM

r57 cultural appropriation - how humiliating for her

by Anonymousreply 73October 30, 2024 2:16 AM

r68 She doesn't give interviews, because the woman is basically retarded. Shaking your hair and hips doesn't make one a goddess. How hilarious. She needs a whole team to write an idiotic song.

All the single ladies

All the single ladies

All the single ladies

All the single ladies

by Anonymousreply 74October 30, 2024 2:19 AM

R70 Ho please. The Queen was already a household name before she even met Jay. She made him middle America famous, though his paper was already stacked up. And she certainly didn’t fuck her own father.

by Anonymousreply 75October 30, 2024 6:17 AM

Because yall wanna make Bey be basic because she is real. She is not going to front. She isn’t Michelle Obama or Vanessa L Williams. She isn’t college educated or a debutante. She is the motherfucking Bob Dylan of hip hop. Stay press, hos.

by Anonymousreply 76October 30, 2024 6:19 AM

The speech she made at the recent rally for VP Harris sounded abridged and used words that are simple. No doubt that her team made her practice until she was hoarse.

by Anonymousreply 77October 30, 2024 1:38 PM

Work ethic, race, and confidence. Her contemporaries are Britney, Christina, JLo, P!nk, Usher, and others I can't remember. But, unlike the rest, save for P!nk, she never faltered on her work ethic and maintained a clean public image. You will never catch Beyonce being lazy at a concert. You will never catch Beyonce talking negatively about people. You will never catch Beyonce doing cheap Christmas albums.

She's like a well oiled machine that's stood the test of time, compared to her peers. It's consistency at play. Also, one of the few still doing choreography. A lost art in pop. If Beyonce was a white woman, DL would have no problems understanding how she's become so big. The fact that she can be compared to a juggernaut like Swift, whose a decade her junior, shows that Beyonce's career instincts were more right than wrong.

We don't have to like her sound or all of her songs, but she gives even passive fans enough content to be palpable to the masses. I also love that she at times displays a pro-black message despite how controversial it can be in America.

But Beyonce simply made it to the top by hard work. Simple.

by Anonymousreply 78October 30, 2024 1:51 PM

r65 and people need to remember that she's been in the game since the late 90s. No one has had such a clean and consistent career for so long. Beyonce stays in her lane. Releases her music, goes on tour, still dances and sings (in heels), then goes about her life. Literally the perfect type of pop star. The fact that she started when I was 8 years old, and is still that girl, speaks volumes!

by Anonymousreply 79October 30, 2024 1:54 PM

R76 You sound more uneducated than Beyonce herself. I didn't think that was possible.

by Anonymousreply 80October 30, 2024 2:07 PM

Well I don’t like Taylor either and she’s white, so…

by Anonymousreply 81October 30, 2024 2:51 PM

[quote]That’s why she is so mafuckin respected.

She isn’t.

by Anonymousreply 82October 30, 2024 3:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 83October 30, 2024 3:21 PM
