You can tell it's Fall because...

St. Jude's, Shriner's, and Easter Seals has launched their 'giving' campaign on us as they parade and exploit their sick patients on every cable channel. Every other commercial on MSNBC is from one of these charities, asking us to 'give' to these exploited children / families on our screen (though cheery Marlo Thomas is missing this season - must know it's not a good look since Phil died a month ago).

So before you go apple picking with your grandkids, before you go for a family hayride, before you plan your Thanksgiving dinner, and before you tag your Christmas tree...won't you remember the less fortunate and write out a hefty check in this robust economy ? Pwease ? For the sake of Caleb and profit margins ?

I can't wait for the middle of October when the Medicare commercials start with Mad Martha...

St. Jude's, Shriner's have been a constant all year and the Medicare commercials have already started.

by Anonymousreply 1October 6, 2024 5:29 PM

R1 Haven't seen the Medicare commercials in my area. I have seen St Jude's and Shriner's during the year, but not as in heavy rotation as they have been the past week or so. I mean every single commercial break now.

And I've seen a lot of new St Jude's commercials just this weekend (I was just introduced to 'Lily' the child ballet dancer who can't move too well, but her dreams can come true thanks to St Jude). They're rolling them out and tugging at our heartstrings in this time of 'giving'.

by Anonymousreply 2October 6, 2024 5:33 PM

I never noticed they pick up in the fall-- they seem to be year round.

by Anonymousreply 3October 6, 2024 5:44 PM

Will Folger’s have their slutty incest commercial?

by Anonymousreply 4October 6, 2024 6:01 PM

Simple solution: Don't watch commercials! I stream or record everything and subscribe to the premium services so I don't see them. And on the rare occasion that I can't avoid them, I hit the mute button.

by Anonymousreply 5October 6, 2024 6:10 PM

It wasn't until last year that I started watching live TV again (mainly due to sports). It was weird since I would touch the fast forward button, but then remembered I couldn't skip. LOL. I was with my mom who is a boomer and so spent a lot of time sitting with her watching TV or it in the background. It feels like commercials are more annoying and no longer funny.

by Anonymousreply 6October 6, 2024 6:13 PM

Cough it up, bitches! And no adowable bwankets this time around!

What kind of sick fuck rags on St. Jude's?

Welcome to the DL.

by Anonymousreply 10October 6, 2024 7:14 PM

Op if that is the way you gauge that it’s autumn, you’re to be pitted.

by Anonymousreply 11October 6, 2024 7:21 PM

r9, I know, right?

by Anonymousreply 12October 6, 2024 7:28 PM

R11's (presumed) typo made my day.

by Anonymousreply 13October 6, 2024 7:29 PM

Danny, people who live under glass tables shouldn't throw stones.

by Anonymousreply 14October 6, 2024 7:30 PM

R9 Those who know better when seeing these 'charities' exploit ill patients for profitable donations. Try to follow along.

by Anonymousreply 15October 6, 2024 7:52 PM

R11 Pitted ? How do I get pitted ? Sounds interesting.

by Anonymousreply 16October 6, 2024 7:52 PM

Pumpkin spice is being wheeled out in front of frenzied fraus.

by Anonymousreply 17October 6, 2024 7:57 PM

Licking my ass

by Anonymousreply 18October 6, 2024 9:32 PM

OED: exploitation - the action or fact of treating someone unfairly in order to benefit from their work. "the exploitation of migrant workers"

Since those kids are receiving free medical treatment, and their families are given free housing and food, I don't know that they are being unfairly treated. Not to mention that the vast majority never appear in ads...

by Anonymousreply 19October 6, 2024 10:08 PM

Sun's not coming up so early in the morning. I really hate that, in summer.

by Anonymousreply 20October 6, 2024 10:09 PM

I gave Kaleb a break once. Never again, the brittle little backstabber.

by Anonymousreply 21October 6, 2024 10:11 PM

Because OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG everything is coming up PUMPKIN FUCKING SPICE!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 22October 6, 2024 10:12 PM

I turn the channel when those damn ASPCA commercials come on. They have another one less gruesome about a baby elephant left alone in’s the wilderness after the mother is killed. Total bullshit. Elephants live in female herds, the others would take care of the baby if something happened to the mother.

by Anonymousreply 23October 6, 2024 10:35 PM

A cool gust of wind blew right up my ass!

by Anonymousreply 24October 6, 2024 10:52 PM

I always wonder if these commercials would be twice as effective if they were half as long and schmaltzy.

by Anonymousreply 25October 6, 2024 11:09 PM

[quote]Since those kids are receiving free medical treatment, and their families are given free housing and food, I don't know that they are being unfairly treated.

They are exploiting their situations, which is horrible. I don't care what they're getting for free.

by Anonymousreply 26October 6, 2024 11:19 PM

My ass wind is powerful

by Anonymousreply 27October 7, 2024 1:01 AM

I flow like a water buffalo

by Anonymousreply 28October 7, 2024 1:18 PM

Yes, those commercials are heartbreaking and disturbing. It's gotten to where as soon as there's a commercial break I turn the damned channel. Same thing with the animals being abused. I have to walk away because that's heartbreaking, too. Just fucking sadness everywhere.

by Anonymousreply 29October 7, 2024 1:29 PM

Bump for Chwismas.

by Anonymousreply 30December 10, 2024 1:09 AM

Kaleb is now a teen. With that handsome mug, I'll bet he's breaking as many hearts as he is bones.

R9, people who don't think that the CEO of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, James Doening, should get a $60k bonus on top of his annual base salary of $1.19 million

by Anonymousreply 32December 10, 2024 2:27 PM

Adowable.

by Anonymousreply 33December 21, 2024 3:15 PM

I donated to St. Jude and received a thank you note asking for more money

by Anonymousreply 34December 21, 2024 3:21 PM

Tewible, r34!

by Anonymousreply 35December 21, 2024 3:22 PM

St Jude’s and Shriners are dripping with billions of dollars. It’s absolutely shitty that they keep trying to get donations as if they’re about to go bankrupt or something

by Anonymousreply 36December 21, 2024 4:04 PM

R31 Emmy should have asked Kaleb why he goes to Shriner's instead of St. Jude's. Start a fight netween the two right on her podcast !
