He's still kicking!
Former President Jimmy Carter makes rare appearance on 100th birthday
by Anonymous | reply 78 | October 7, 2024 3:46 AM |
Kicking, OP?! I saw nary a movement.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | October 2, 2024 4:16 AM |
R1 when 100 years old YOU reach, look as good you will not.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 2, 2024 4:21 AM |
He was announcing the debut of his OnlyFans account tomorrow.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 2, 2024 4:24 AM |
Jimmy team
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 2, 2024 4:25 AM |
I'm happy that he is still around. And I hope he feels fine. But when you're a hundred years old, what are you doing all day when you cannot really do anything anymore? Watching that little video I'm wondering if he is just coping with his illness and age all day. Is there anything else? Do chirping birds in the morning and sunshine make your day at that age?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 2, 2024 4:28 AM |
President Carter is such an accomplished, sober, quietly faithful man, I had no idea his brother was a burnout
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 2, 2024 4:29 AM |
President Carter is a bad ass. He said he is holding on to cast his vote for Kamala Harris as POTUS!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 2, 2024 4:31 AM |
He looked vegetative at his wife’s funeral ten months ago. It’s nice he reached the milestone, but I hope life isn’t a burden for him.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 2, 2024 4:34 AM |
He's stealing my look.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 2, 2024 4:42 AM |
That video seems invasive. Shame on the one who posted it.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 2, 2024 4:54 AM |
Weekend at Bernie's

[quote] That video seems invasive. Shame on the one who posted it.
Bullshit.
It's his 100th birthday, and he's a former President of the United States.
It's a fucking monumental occasion, and I say more power to him.
The only President of the United States to live to be 100 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 2, 2024 5:04 AM |
r10 vegetative or not he'll hang on until Election Day, it's who he is. He's a strong willed man.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 2, 2024 5:19 AM |
I hope he's already mailed his absentee ballot.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 2, 2024 5:49 AM |
Early voting doesn’t start in Georgia until Oct. 15, R17.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 2, 2024 5:51 AM |
Oh dear. Get up... I mean stay up, Jimmy, we love you!
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 2, 2024 6:00 AM |
I don’t mean to sound like a jackass but is he legit conscious or are they just wheeling around a vegetable. Great American patriot he is.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 2, 2024 6:46 AM |
That documentary above is excellent, much more fun than I expected.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 2, 2024 7:26 AM |
r20 He is not vegetative. The man's entire body is slowly and cautiously ebbing away. His senses are dull but they're there. He is conscious and oriented to time, person and place. He has comprehension.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 2, 2024 7:50 AM |
Something is keeping him alive, he must be very strong willed. Medicine can't be the only solution. Didn't he also have a serious form of cancer?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 2, 2024 8:06 AM |
My dad breathes through his mouth like that and he's only 92. I guess that's something that happens with old age. Dad's hanging around to vote for Kamala, too although he's really more of a Bernie Sanders socialist if he had that option.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | October 2, 2024 8:31 AM |
I wouldn't wheel him past any open bodies of water
by Anonymous | reply 26 | October 2, 2024 8:52 AM |
R12, I assume CBS News was given access by the Carter family.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 2, 2024 8:56 AM |
R9 If he's holding on to vote for Kamala, the best way we can honor his life accomplishments is to get out and do the same.
Remember, the next leader will likely be the one delivering the presidential eulogy once he does pass on. If its Biden (in the lame duck period) or Harris, we know they will give thoughtful, heartfelt speeches. I shutter to think how Trump and his ilk would act in the same situation.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | October 2, 2024 9:16 AM |
He may be 100 but he dosen't look a day over deceased.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | October 2, 2024 9:19 AM |
If Trump fucks around and wins he won’t be delivering the president eulogy. He will not be invited to the funeral. I’m pretty confident she will take it. God please let sanity prevail.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | October 2, 2024 9:57 AM |
Do former Presidents get old and fat Secret Service agents to protect them?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 2, 2024 10:47 AM |
Something is keeping him alive, he must be very strong willed. Medicine can't be the only solution.
How does medicine apply once one is in hospice? Isn't pain relief the only medicine that then comes into play?
by Anonymous | reply 32 | October 2, 2024 11:47 AM |
I met both him and the First Lady in Los Angeles in the mid-90s at a Habitat for Humanity event. After the event, they visited with the volunteers and made sure to speak with everyone in the room for a brief moment before they left. They are the most gracious and endearing couple I have ever met.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 2, 2024 11:52 AM |
R32 a hospice can also carry on a life-preserving medicine regime
by Anonymous | reply 34 | October 2, 2024 12:50 PM |
I take a Zoom class with about 25 members. One of the participants looked quite old. I was guessing 90s. She vanished and it was announced that she went into assisted living but didn’t like it so she was going home. And that she is 107 years old. She definitely looked old but not that old. Some people are amazing.

[quote] a hospice can also carry on a life-preserving medicine regime
Other than providing nourishment, what does that entail?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 2, 2024 1:37 PM |
r36, comfort care.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 2, 2024 2:04 PM |
I get comfort care, what I don't get is the assertion that "a hospice can also carry on a life-preserving medicine regime."
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 2, 2024 2:06 PM |
R38 like giving your blood pressure or heart meds for example.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 2, 2024 2:32 PM |
Thanks, R39.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 2, 2024 2:44 PM |
This may sound corny and dumb of me, but I wonder if part of the reason he's hanging onto vote for Kamala is partially to honor Rachel Clark. Rachel Clark was a black woman who lived and worked on the Carter family farm. He spent a lot of time with Rachel and her husband and worked in the fields with them. I saw an interview years ago where he said she was an additional mother figure to him.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 2, 2024 3:01 PM |
It's so sad to see a man once so vibrant and strong in what appears to be a near vegetative state.
Bless President Carter.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 2, 2024 3:16 PM |
I'd still vote for him over Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | October 2, 2024 3:28 PM |
I still maintain that life-enhancing drugs are being shared with a small group of elites, including the British royal family and former US presidents and first ladies. The lifespans of American first couples from the last 50 years is crazy:
Gerald Ford: 93, Betty Ford: 94, Jimmy Carter: 100 (and still alive), Rosalyn Carter: 97, Ronald Reagan: 93, Nancy Reagan: 94, George HW Bush: 94, Barbara Bush: 94
Obviously it's too early to comment on the younger presidents and first ladies.
Strange to think that the current US president would only have to live 18 more years to equal Jimmy's record.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 2, 2024 4:00 PM |
God bless him.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 2, 2024 4:02 PM |
R12 is a fucking frau Kunt face, ff her to hell, go back and do it, don't be pussies, He needs to die, it is a terrible state he is in, a vegetable, who wants that? God is a bitch to have someone die like that, suffering and falling apart.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 2, 2024 4:12 PM |
Are we sure that Georgia doesn't have a rule where if you early vote but pass away before November 5th, the ballot isn't counted? I wouldn't be surprised given all of the other fuckery there.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 2, 2024 4:30 PM |
I remember an interview Carter gave thirty years ago in which he described the corrupt voting practices in the Georgia of his youth. He claimed votes were accepted in the name of dead voters but only for a limited time because, after a certain point, the survivors could no longer accurately determine how the deceased would have voted.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 2, 2024 4:45 PM |
[quote] Are we sure that Georgia doesn't have a rule where if you early vote but pass away before November 5th, the ballot isn't counted? I wouldn't be surprised given all of the other fuckery there.
I posted on another Carter thread that Georgia is among those states having no law governing this possibility.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 2, 2024 4:59 PM |
Thanks R49. I didn't catch that.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 2, 2024 5:07 PM |
The democrats would say he was sharp as a tack, fit for office, and you should vote for him.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 2, 2024 5:30 PM |
No, R52, it was the Democrats who waylaid their old guy. The Trump Party is still a cult of personality behind their old guy. Do try to keep up.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 2, 2024 5:45 PM |
Well then should I dig up all the Uncle Joe is still running, and should, threads from Datalounge?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | October 2, 2024 5:47 PM |
Better yet, look within your own party.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 2, 2024 5:58 PM |
r46 Take a valium, geez.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 2, 2024 6:48 PM |
R14 You completely missed my point. Comprehension is a skill. Learn it.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 2, 2024 8:06 PM |
R46 take SEVERAL Valium. What is wrong with you?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 2, 2024 8:20 PM |
I wish him well and trust that his maker will take him when the time is right.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 2, 2024 8:35 PM |
Nice to see the Carter family got all dressed up for that event...
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 2, 2024 8:48 PM |
R44 Are those ages any different to other people who earn $400,000+ per year and those worth millions? I suspect they are not.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 3, 2024 7:38 PM |
Is Jimmy Carter blind, as someone on DL has suggested? When I googled all I could find was this guy.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | October 6, 2024 6:17 PM |
As I have pointed out elsewhere, Carter's biographer Jonathan Alter noted that he is blind, stemming from 2019 brain surgery.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | October 6, 2024 7:00 PM |
This article says:
[quote]He had a subdural hematoma, which affected his vision and mobility.
But it makes no mention of him being blind.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | October 6, 2024 7:04 PM |
R64, maybe the author was being more respectful of his health privacy than was his biographer.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 6, 2024 7:08 PM |
R22, how the fuck do you know that?
The more prolific you get, the more jack ass you get. Dial it down, maybe.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 6, 2024 7:08 PM |
[quote]I wish him well and trust that his maker will take him when the time is right.
I think we have to consider the very real possibility his maker cannot find his glasses, so cannot read his to do list.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 6, 2024 7:10 PM |
r65, the mere mention of him being blind is showing disrespect? Um, no. Just no.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | October 6, 2024 7:18 PM |
Too bad Jimmy isn't taking our advice.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 6, 2024 7:45 PM |
Former presidents Clinton, Bush & Obama, alone, along with President Bush, sent video birthday messages.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | October 6, 2024 8:30 PM |
He has Stage IV melanoma, and stayed productive several years post diagnosis due to cancer research.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | October 6, 2024 8:38 PM |
When is he going to get back building those houses for the poors?
by Anonymous | reply 72 | October 6, 2024 10:23 PM |
I know he's for marriage equality, but what is his view on abortion?
by Anonymous | reply 73 | October 6, 2024 11:02 PM |
R73, abortion hadn't yet crystallized as a galvanizing political issue when Carter ran for president. But I recall he was opposed to abortion rights during his active political career.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | October 7, 2024 12:13 AM |
[quote]Former presidents Clinton, Bush & Obama, alone, along with President Bush, sent video birthday messages.
So basically all of the living presidents who understand decency and respect for others who've held the office.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | October 7, 2024 1:28 AM |
r66, shove red hot anal beads up your ass.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | October 7, 2024 3:04 AM |
R76, if you’re waiting for me to cower, pack a lunch. It’s going to be a while.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | October 7, 2024 3:35 AM |
r77 Fine. Shall we watch a Ropers-heavy Three's Company episode to pass the time?
