Will we have a president on election day or will it drag on for days again

The earliest would be 11 pm eastern time right?

by Anonymousreply 12October 1, 2024 6:29 PM

No. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin won't even start counting mail ballots until Election Day.

We definitely won't know on election night. We'll be lucky if we get the results by that Saturday.

by Anonymousreply 2October 1, 2024 5:48 PM

Both Trump and Harris will contest and fight it until the bitter end.

by Anonymousreply 3October 1, 2024 5:49 PM

It'll take more than a day, sadly. Which of course means Trump will declare victory that night.

I see this going up to the Supreme Court al la 2000

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2024 5:52 PM

Even though the last election dragged on officially for days. It was quite obvious Biden won like the day.

by Anonymousreply 6October 1, 2024 5:52 PM

On election day? NOT A CHANCE.

by Anonymousreply 7October 1, 2024 5:53 PM

There is not going to be trials, foolishness, etc. Trump is not going to win. Kamala will take Pennsylvania and Georgia. Mark my words.

by Anonymousreply 8October 1, 2024 5:54 PM

Unless it’s a smashing large Dem win this one could go weeks before it’s settled. Settled in the courts would not surprise me.

Note that Georgia's still trying to require ballot tabulation by hand, and if that decision is upheld, God knows how long it'll take to count – and likely recount – everything.

That said, it's at least possible we could know on Election Day, but the literal only way that could happen is if Harris wins multiple unexpected states or has margins of victory in battleground states too large to contest.

While obviously Trumpkins and his proxies will stamp their tiny little feet over nearly any loss, keep in mind that it took well over a month to decide the last presidential race that actually *was* close: 2000.

Bet money it’s decided the next day. Trump is not going to win Penn, Michigan, or Wisconsin. Even if he retains all the southern states sans Virginia he loses.

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2024 6:05 PM

No clue, but I’d start mentally preparing for it to take a week or two in case it does.
