Having never made the Hall of Fame.
Good now he won't be able to vote for Trump.

by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 1, 2024 12:14 AM |
First Maggie Smith, then Gavin Creel, and now Pete Rose. The great ones are being taken from us.

Never liked that arrogant asshole.

GOOD
by Anonymous | reply 7 | October 1, 2024 12:26 AM |
I wonder if they'll vote him into the hall of fame post humously.
Why not? Everybody bets on sports now.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 1, 2024 12:27 AM |
The same OP has made a few posts now without proper titles.
It's
[name] is DEAD to ME!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | October 1, 2024 12:27 AM |
Oh r9, what are you going to do? Sue me?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 1, 2024 12:33 AM |
R11 No, but do it right next time, bitch.

His baseball cards just got very valuable
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 1, 2024 12:56 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 1, 2024 1:13 AM |
Good riddance.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | October 1, 2024 1:19 AM |
J.D. Vance will make it all about him (Ohio, remember?) at the debate.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | October 1, 2024 1:20 AM |
He was the best player I ever had. Better than any of the n----gers on the team.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | October 1, 2024 1:23 AM |
He looked like a caveman in the pic at R10. Not that he didn't look like a caveman at all other times, too.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | October 1, 2024 1:27 AM |
Every athlete in R10’s posted ad looks grim, even Jim Palmer. Ouch.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | October 1, 2024 1:38 AM |
Woah. I didn't know the following until I just read it in the NY Times obit.
The investigator in charge of looking into whether he gambled on baseball said that Rose had sex with 13- and 14-years old girls.
One woman testified that she was under 16 when she had sex with Rose. Rose states he thought she was 16, the age of consent in Ohio.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 1, 2024 1:38 AM |
I just heard the cashiers at my local grocery talking about him, which isn't unusual in Cincinnati. I can't say that I'll miss him.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 1, 2024 1:43 AM |
R10 Who's looking at his haircut in those ads ? Not me, or any other gayling.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 1, 2024 1:45 AM |
From Cincy and loved Pete despite his stupid gambling. He was a River Rat, but what a hometown ball player. When he came back to the Reds as Player/Manager my company had season tickets and somehow I lucked out to see his first at bat with a basehit and a stolen base. Incredible ovation. He didn't the HOF and those hypocrites who voted other cheaters in. R.I.P. Pete.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | October 1, 2024 1:45 AM |

I don’t want his stuff.

From the article: [quote] Now, in death, it remains to be seen whether Pete will finally have his rightful place in Cooperstown.
Hell NO. What ever happened to consequences for one's actions? Even though he's now dead to us, he doesn't deserve Hall of Fame recognition or any other sort of posthumous "cleanup" of his legacy. If anything, the HOF should agree to admit him only with a simple monument of shame that talks about his baseball gambling including on his own team's games and doesn't mention one fucking word about his athletic accomplishments in the game.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | October 1, 2024 2:22 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 33 | October 1, 2024 2:30 AM |
A great baseball player, but a truly shitty human being. Betting on games your team is involved in is beyond fucked up. I'm glad he was blacklisted from the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Great commercial, co-starring DL fave Vic Tayback.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | October 1, 2024 2:39 AM |
I watched The Red Sox vs Cincinnati Reds in the 1975 World Series and cursed Rose more than once. He was a great hitter, I must admit.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | October 1, 2024 2:43 AM |
OH MY GOD! I LOOK LIKE PETE ROSE!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 1, 2024 2:44 AM |
We didn't even have a thread about Dikembe Mutombo, who also died today. Who's killing all the celebrities?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 1, 2024 2:46 AM |
Shaquille O’Neal used to make fun of Dikembe’s thick accent. I hated him for that.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 1, 2024 2:48 AM |
I feel bad for him.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | October 1, 2024 2:50 AM |
I didn't know that, R39. I think Dikembe spoke something like 10 languages, which is impressive, accent or not.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 1, 2024 2:51 AM |
[quote]We didn't even have a thread about Dikembe Mutombo, who also died today. Who's killing all the celebrities?
Well, MAGA megatard Rob Schneider implied that Dikembe died of THE JAB.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 1, 2024 2:51 AM |
Good. He was a prick.

We did. The OP of the thread misspelled his name though.

Gambler who dies in Vegas. What could be more of a cliche. A douche bag ho dies in Florida, perhaps. that would have been my other guess.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 1, 2024 3:23 AM |
I loved watching Charlie Hustle play.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | October 1, 2024 4:06 AM |
Pete Rose did add a lot of color and excitement to baseball (before the betting scandal broke). He reminds me of Jimmy Connors (tennis player) in looks and temperament.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 1, 2024 5:39 AM |
From the grave, Pete is betting on whether or not Susan Dey will issue a statement.
She's kind of busy these days not responding to everyone else who has died.

I’m a native Cincinnatian from the West Side near where Pete Rose is from. He went to Western Hills HS.. The Roses were ‘West Side royalty’, and his son was in the same grade as me. Looking back, Pete epitomized West Side trashiness and wasn’t very bright outside of baseball. He squandered so much opportunity.
Fun fact, ‘The Dock’, the biggest gay bar in Cincy, was located on 2nd Street along the Ohio River which was later renamed Pete Rose Way. Some of my earliest gayling memories were on Pete Rose Way! It closed in 2018 to make way for redevelopment. RIP Dock (1984-2018).

R52 another West Sider from Cincy here. I knew Pete Jr. from a gym in Price Hill, and he told the story about being on the road with his dad, who would have an assistant take Petey on shopping sprees at toy stores, and his dad would be back at the hotel with a hooker. Petey took it in stride, that was his dad. I wonder if Karolyn Rose is still alive?

[QUOTE]I loved watching Charlie Hustle play.
He was easily the ugliest man in baseball and ran like the Tasmanian Devil ready to annihilate. Grotesque man with a tell-tale sloped brow and "appetites."

Born fugly. Died fugly.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 1, 2024 11:19 AM |
What would be the point of honoring him with the hall of fame in death? That would seem a bit cruel, actually. We couldn’t bring ourselves to relent when you were alive, but your sad death made us change our minds. And you’ll never know about it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 1, 2024 11:26 AM |
With the exception of Jim Palmer, the poster at r10 looks like a “Who’s Never” of Phillywhore conquests.

The coroner said today he died of 'natural causes' at 83. No foul play.

After hearing some of the stories regarding Pete's penchant for jailbait, I would like to now imagine Pete Rose is sharing a cell with Austin Wolf. Maybe he can adopt a new hairstyle? But, other than that, out of sight, out of mind.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | October 2, 2024 1:52 AM |
R64 is not R37.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | October 2, 2024 2:13 AM |
I don't see where he had a funeral yet, unless it was totally private and they were able to keep it off the internet somehow. I wonder if he was still gambling in his later years.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | October 13, 2024 12:11 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 69 | October 13, 2024 12:45 PM |
r67, your post had me thinking that maybe his family had the good taste to not risk a poor turnout if they were to have a conventional funeral.
Or, as is happening more and more some people are pretty adamant to their family that they want no service of any kind, granted, that for an attention hound like Rose, that seems unlikely.
