New York Times Endorses Kamala Harris, But One Issue Is Really Sticking In Its Craw

The New York Times on Monday heartily endorsed Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for president while repeating how unfit for office ex-President Donald Trump is.

But the newspaper had some harsh words for the vice president on her campaign strategy.

“Many voters have said they want more details about the vice president’s plans, as well as more unscripted encounters in which she explains her vision and policies,” the Times wrote. “They are right to ask. Given the stakes of this election, Ms. Harris may think that she is running a campaign designed to minimize the risks of an unforced error — answering journalists’ questions and offering greater policy detail could court controversy, after all — under the belief that being the only viable alternative to Mr. Trump may be enough to bring her to victory. That strategy may ultimately prove winning, but it’s a disservice to the American people and to her own record.”

“And leaving the public with a sense that she is being shielded from tough questions, as Mr. Biden has been, could backfire by undermining her core argument that a capable new generation stands ready to take the reins of power,” the outlet added.

Harris has sparingly given interviews since she emerged as the Democratic presidential nominee. It took her several weeks after that to sit down with CNN’s Dana Bash, and she had a rare press encounter with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle last week.

You can still fuck off, NYT

by Anonymousreply 2September 30, 2024 11:56 PM

Good. It's fine to support someone and still hold them accountable. Unfortunately she's running on the basis of "I'm not Trump." Not a good long term strategy.

by Anonymousreply 3September 30, 2024 11:58 PM

Fuck them.

by Anonymousreply 4September 30, 2024 11:59 PM

Only needs to be a short-term strategy r3, and really it is a primary goal: never fucking vote for a useless rancid twat like Trump. Just don't.

by Anonymousreply 5October 1, 2024 12:00 AM

That's not good enough.

by Anonymousreply 6October 1, 2024 12:01 AM

Loser.

by Anonymousreply 7October 1, 2024 12:02 AM

well, we'll see r6. By the way, she has an 82-page economic plan. Have you read it? Do you plan to? Do you actually give a shit about a "detailed plan" or like most people is it just a thing to be said without remotely meaning it?

by Anonymousreply 8October 1, 2024 12:04 AM

It's really not befitting the American media to be so pissy about a decidedly untraditional presidential candidate opting not to pursue a traditional campaign. Do they seriously think people are unaware that they're doing it solely to try & snag a "gotcha" moment? (See, e.g., Katie Couric destroying Sarah Palin by asking her about the Bush doctrine, which she'd clearly never heard of.)

When it is CONSTANTLY a news story that "Kamala hasn't given a formal interview," you know the ones doing the complaining are either MAGAts or butthurt members of the media.

by Anonymousreply 9October 1, 2024 12:06 AM

I am sick to death of hearing Kamala does not communicate enough about her plans. This, as opposed to the nothing plans tRump has beyond a desire to turn this fine country into a 3rd world hell hole.

by Anonymousreply 10October 1, 2024 12:10 AM

Is her plan just typing "small businesses are my passion" over and over again?

by Anonymousreply 11October 1, 2024 12:14 AM

Agree, R10. And we also know exactly what Dump, WILL, in fact do. Isn't knowing the damage he'll cause enough?

by Anonymousreply 12October 1, 2024 12:14 AM

You mean bring us a great economy again R12? I can afford to eat again?

by Anonymousreply 13October 1, 2024 12:16 AM

Mostly of course Trump will flail around, being offended, having stupid whims and grievances, fucking around and fucking up, and never coming up with any actual plan about anything. Oh, and golfing, lots and lots of golfing.

by Anonymousreply 14October 1, 2024 12:16 AM

Have you looked at all the days Biden spent on vacation?

by Anonymousreply 15October 1, 2024 12:18 AM

We endorse Kamala Harris. Why that's bad for Kamala Harris.

by Anonymousreply 16October 1, 2024 12:18 AM

You mean the Biden that actually passed a huge infrastructure bill, and didn't just have endless "infrastructure weeks"? That Biden?

by Anonymousreply 17October 1, 2024 12:20 AM

Sounds like that comment was inserted from the NYT asshole (Bret Stephens) who got his ass kicked on Bill Maher's show. Literally almost his very words on that show.

Remember, Bret Stephens - an opinion columnist for NYT - is a documented conservative.

by Anonymousreply 18October 1, 2024 12:20 AM

What are they expecting? Trump only gives softball interviews to NewsMax or Fox where they treat him like a child (nodding their heads and never calling him on anything). He also takes to weird radio podcasters to reach the low propensity incel voters.

Harris was great in that recent MSNBC interview about the economy. She was relaxed and very clear. I think people have unrealistic expectations about what they think she should be doing. She gets much more impact from doing rallies where she needs to win.

by Anonymousreply 19October 1, 2024 12:21 AM

Harris has given what? Two interviews and zero press conferences? Trump about a 100? Trump will talk with anyone. Friendly or not.

by Anonymousreply 20October 1, 2024 12:22 AM

Yes, Trump will blather nonsense at anybody at any time and in any setting. Yes, that is a thing that will happen. True.

by Anonymousreply 21October 1, 2024 12:23 AM

Why won't Kamala do more?

New York Times Endorses Kamala Harris And Why This May Be Bad For Harris

by Anonymousreply 23October 1, 2024 12:26 AM

Hi, R23!

by Anonymousreply 24October 1, 2024 12:29 AM

Isn't Kamala just copying Biden's plan with a few numbers altered?

by Anonymousreply 25October 1, 2024 3:44 AM

Don’t say much and you don’t make enemies. . As long as it works, I’m for it. But ultimately it’s not what a real leader would do. However as long as the election is about Trump, she should win. I think the country has Trump fatigue.
