Dame Joan Collins on a British talk show last week.
Ok, that low neck line is not a good choice for her, but damn, she's 91 years old and still looks and talks like Joan Collins.
IMHO Joan still seems contemporary, while Jane Fonda now comes across as a surgically improved old lady.
Funny when asked about Warren Beatty, she says "nobody knows who he is any more".

I liked hearing her talk, there. I guess she's a sun worshiper, hence the tanned and crepey skin on the chest.
Both she and Jane Fonda have had plastic surgery; Jane has probably had more. Jane has managed to stay thinner.

That was a terrific interview, she was so witty and sharp and self-deprecating and yet regal at the same time.
It's funny she should mention Empire of the Ants, that was the nadir of her career, right before Dynasty, and the picture is delightfully inept; I recommend it.

Yeah, she's got that really nice way of speaking that could sound snobby, but she's relatively down-to-earth. Love that she mentioned "Empire of the Ants." (Faye Dunaway could take notes and just enjoy "Mommie Dearest.")
She dated Warren Beatty before he became famous. I wonder what he did to leave such a bad memory.

Interesting when she was talking about costumes, she never mentioned Nolan Miller. She made it sound like she went to Saks and Neiman's and just took whatever she liked. She also pointedly left out Forsythe and Evans when listing the Dynasty actors she loved.

She looks "contemporary" only to the extent that plastic surgery has given her a perpetual smile, which I guess is better than other comes like the look of perpetual surprise or the utter lack of emotion. Fonda had much better, more subtle work. Collins may have outlived others, but she's still just a second rate actress who got lucky with a night time soap. There are still plenty of movie buffs who know well haw she was known as the 19th hole.

The smile I think is natural. Britney Spears did get the corners of her mouth turned up via surgery. joan may also just have trained herself to smile all the time.

I find her interesting at this point but mostly because she's been at it for close to 75 years and is still going strong. Looking at her IMDB page and she worked alongside many actors who, along with Beatty, people just don't know anymore. I was never a Dynasty fan (restaurant worker back in the 80s and didn't own a VCR I guess).
But an insight as to her being propelled as a celebrity is again the IMDB page. 137 acting credits but 327 credits as "Self." Not the sole criterion but a fairly good indicator that much of her popularity is in being herself.

We know John disliked Joan, particularly after she snatched that People’s Choice Award away and spoke first at the 1986 awards show. I don’t think Linda hated her, but there was no love loss and they weren’t friends. Pamela Sue Martin felt the same, and thought Joan was a ridiculous woman. Michael Nader and her had some kind of falling out, but I forget the nature of it right now. But the ones that were in the Joan camp were Gordon Thomson, John James, Emma Samms, Stephanie Beacham, and Diahann Carroll (like she stated). I think the neutral ones were Al Corley, Jack Coleman, Pamela Bellwood, and Catherine Oxenberg.

R60 A few months after John Forsythe died in 2010, I remember Collins had done an interview to 'set the record' straight.
She said that her cordial relationship with the actor ended when she decided to pose for PLAYBOY at the age of 50 in the summer of 1983, just as the fourth season on the show was going into production.
She claimed Forsythe had gone straight to the top at ABC demanding they fire Collins, claiming her posing nude was against network policy and in violation of the 'decency' clause in each of the cast member's contract 'forbidding' them to do any nudity in any projects (including movies and magazines) while they were employed by ABC. He also warned Aaron Spelling that the show was going to suffer the consequences of her 'selfish actions', and they would see a drop in viewership / ratings once the magazine came out (December, 1983). The cast was split on siding with Forsythe or Collins, and caused animosity on the set.
Collins pointed out none of this happened - the magazine was the best selling issue in their 30 year history (at that time), and ratings for the show soared soon after. Once that storm was over, most everything went back to 'normal' (pre-Playboy photo shoot), though she stayed her distance from Forsythe and Evans (only talking to each actor when the script called for it, not off-camera). She explained why this is why that GG acceptance speech was so awkward on stage, as Forsythe wouldn't stand near Collins.
She did resume a 'working relationship' with Evans by the series end, and ended up proposing their working together on the tour of "Legends" in the 2000s, and we know what she thought of Evans during that fiasco.

R71 I’ve heard John was non too pleased with the Playboy spread she did, but I’ve never heard he went to the network demanding she get fired. Dumb move, considering the show was huge at that point, and short of murdering someone, there’s no way they’d get rid of Joan. Joan saved the show, but I know there was some resentment of her from day one from the cast members that had been there from its inception. Pamela Sue I believe was content playing Fallon with a bitchiness and edge, but when Joan joined the show, all that slid over to her character Alexis, and Fallon got watered down.

R74 the first season is underrated, mainly as a cynical, dark examination of people that are rich. Then Joan came on the scene, and while she was great for about her first three seasons, she ended up swallowing the show whole, to its detriment. It really became just a celebration of the rich, and they can do no wrong. The smartest thing they did in the last season was to limit her appearances (Linda also but she was leaving anyway), to allow the show to breathe and focus on other characters more. Less Alexis went a long way, and by this time the Krystle character had run its course.

I do recall rumors in the press that they had made an offer to actor Al Corley (the first 'Steven') to do a full nude pictorial back then, in 1983 -84 when he was promoting his new TV drama 'Bare Essence' and launching his pop music career (which went un-noticed in the USA). At the time, he was involved with Carly Simon who was 15 years his senior (he was 25, she was 40) and she was quietly 'managing' his career - it was supposedly her idea that he do the Playgirl spread. Alas, it never happened. (And yes - Simon was the one behind his short-lived pop music career).

Didn't Dallas benefit from a fairly consistent writing and production team over the ten years? Dynasty was a revolving door of writers.
[quote]I recall PSM saying the main reason she decided to leave was because they turned Alexis into what Fallon was supposed to be.
It's funny though because later the show had multiple bitches on at the same time at various points: Dominique, Sammy Jo, Sable... they were all making trouble. Probably some I've forgotten as the show got so stupid, like a lot of people, I drifted off at some point. Never completely, but it wasn't weekly appointment TV. There was, in retrospect, no good reason to soften Fallon... she could have mixed it up in her own way. Part of the problem was PSM brought to life a strong character but she was always sent back to John James, who did not.
I also loved the first and second seasons... good story telling, comparatively complex characters.
