That would end a lot of bullshit and erase the national debt.

Usha defended that BS by saying he only thinks it’s bad if you don’t try to have kids! So…when filing taxes attach a hetro sex tape or proof of a miscarriage or proof that you’re shooting blanks? It’s completely infeasible, just like mass deporting 20 million people. That doesn’t matter because the intent is only to spread hatred. It’s says a lot about Vance’s own mental state. He’s a deeply damaged little man with mommy issues.

Bret Fucking Stephens again :
Bret: Now that I think about it, here’s what she should also say: that she’d appoint Stanley McChrystal, the retired general who just endorsed her in a Times guest essay, as secretary of Homeland Security, and James Stavridis, the retired admiral and NATO commander, as director of central intelligence, and retired admiral Bill McRaven as secretary of defense. With that, she could add one more New York state vote — namely, mine — to her tally.
Who does this fucker think he is? His list of demands is so specific and ridiculous and not in Harris' best interests. It really bothers me that this guy thinks his one vote should allow him to appoint a cabinet of his choosing.

The only reason to vote for these two is they are not Trump and Vance. Such mediocrities. They are buffoons. Total idiots who you wouldn't want on a school board. You must all be morons and only voting for them because they are Democrats. But they are at bottom idiots. Kamela letting in so many millions at the border and giving all this free housing and education has been one of the great governmental financial catastrophes of recent times. She really sucks and you are only in thrall to her because she is a woman of color. I thought DLers could see through that. You should all join White Fraus for Kamela.
And thank you Kamela for squeezing all the money you could out of FEMA for criminals oh so sorry asylum seekers(HA!) so there is so little left. for American citizens who paid into all this money.
It is so amazing that these very very rich Democrats support this but won't bring these people into their neighborhoods or onto their vast land holdings and don't give huge chunks of their fortunes to these people. It is such bullshit. A lot of young people of color are seeing this and they are not as stupid as the white frau brigade. I was talking to a white friend of mine last night. He is married to a black woman. He is shocked by all the young black and hispanic men who are against Kamela. I thought to myself 'Duh.' Yesterday, I approved 100% percent federal cost share for emergency response activities in FL, GA, NC, and TN.
This will cover the costs for the work to remove debris; surge additional first responders and search and rescue teams; set up shelters; and provide food and water.

CNN article about the tensions between the Harris and Biden camps. Nothing dramatic, just relatively minor stuff that's to be expected when the incumbent's VP is running for president and the incumbent is not. Totally understandable, too – she wants a break with some parts of his legacy in order to draw a contrast, and he doesn't want his administration to be poo-pooed on his way out. And by his VP, no less.
Obviously these internal drama pieces will be much more interesting once the election is over and we can all unclench.

[quote]Top aides to Kamala Harris are heading into the final month of the 2024 presidential race still wrestling with how much distance she can credibly claim from Joe Biden as she looks for more ways to weave in breaks with him on the campaign trail. But she keeps getting pulled back to his side for official business at the White House — and he keeps injecting himself into the conversation.
[quote]Neither aides in the Harris campaign nor the Biden White House would commit to another joint campaign event between now and the election. But no one on the vice president’s team is upset that Biden is headed to spend a whole week of October overseas on a non-pressing diplomatic trip to Germany and Angola. Some wish he’d go away for longer.

Good old NYT! Still salty that she won't sit down with them and allow them to twist her words into an October surprise headline. They have listed each appearance and gone to great lengths to prove that it the interview is pro Harris.
Meanwhile Trump, who wouldn't go on CBS , will speak only to his echo chamber and has threatened to sue/imprison/murder journalists from the NYT gets:

I feel like this campaign is in slow motion. Nobody's saying or doing anything to move the needle. It's just the same old same old. (Granted, am too much of a news junkie so naturally everything I see or read is a repeat of the same thing on a daily basis.) I guess it's the lack of momentum or the meandering pace of the momentum. I'm still fairly certain she will win but I find this gridlock really unnerving.

Impossible to make a parallel, because Kamala's high-profile supporters are sane. But just imagine someone on stage with her acting as Musk did. That someone would assuredly not be described as 'spirited.' They'd be used as clear evidence that Harris's judgement is unsound, and so questionable at this perilous time for the world (fill in continued head-shaking for six more paragraphs).

It will come down to last minute turnout among blacks who were thinking of not voting, and suburban women who lean Republican but might decide to vote D when they get the ballot in front of them. Everyone else’s mind has been made up for a long time.

This time a month from now, the race might already be called for Kamala and we might be rid of Trump forever! God, I wish so much for that sweet reality to come true. I felt such relief when the race was called for Biden – though I couldn't fully unclench until he was actually sworn in – but something tells me I'll feel triple that relief this time around. Fuck it, quadruple the relief, even. I'll be in a puddle of joy, babbling in tongues, as you Marys plan her inauguration outfit.

R165, I believe that's why they've held back the Obamas since the convention. Can't overdo them. I'm sure there's a push strategy for the last two weeks or ten days, to create urgency. This is a hard one, because she's inching along but she's not breaking out.
You guys will kill me for staking the centre, but I feel like she needs to give a speech and adopt a message track for the suburbs and the swing states that says: this once, lend me your vote, if you don't feel like you want to give me your vote. I promise you, I will make every decision as President thinking first of the majority of Americans who sit in the center of politics. If you think I fail, take your vote back in 2028. But this time, on faith, vote for the country and break the spell of Trumpism so we can all move forward the damage Trump and his people are doing to America.
I just think she's got to reassure the center and undercut the soft Trump voters who I think are far greater in number than anyone acknowledges in the Republican polling, but who need a nudge.
Anyway, I just want this goddamn thing over with Harris as president.

I respect the decision now to avoid the "traditional" media. They've got to learn to confine themselves to substantive questions, not these extreme, compound, hypotheticals or unanswerable stunt questions aimed at a gotcha. It doesn't have to be either or but the Harris campaign has pretty much evidently made a choice to avoid them for the most part. I think, in the long, run, that's good for everybody.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | October 7, 2024 2:40 PM |
She has to go where people are. The truth is that nontraditional forms of media have eclipsed mainstream press. Do the podcasts, go to Stern, and make TikTok videos. If your voter base is boomers and older Gen-Xers, stick with legacy media, but you're not reaching other demographics that way.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | October 7, 2024 2:54 PM |
Legacy media sees itself on the frontlines of holding leaders accountable. They think an adversarial stance is the secret formula.
But it isn’t. Trump and Vance feed on the negative energy. Gotcha questions don’t matter if the politician feels comfortable lying or attacking the questioner and the media. Viewers tune out, less informed than they might have been with a less confrontational approach.

What a coincidence. I’ve been saying the same thing about this old, rich, wrinkled, entitled white lady pretending to be a “journalist” while transparently seeking social status for years.
She married one of the most financially influential men on the planet who resembled a deflated toad and socializes with the megarich who would love another round of tax breaks that would further punish the middle class.
Does anyone think NBC has kept her around for any other reason, except maybe pity? She’s epitomizes the entitled old guard who scoff at their own irrelevance and think elitist shaming and “both sides do it” is a long-term strategy.
Put the old cunt out to pasture where she can spend her days chugging (more) overpriced gin with Peggy Noonan reminiscing about the good old days.

[quote] HRC 203 states that the “Democrat-led regime, has utterly failed, and continues to fail, in a suspicious manner, in its absolute duty to adequately protect the Republican nominee for president” before the resolution states that if there is “abundant evidence that non-citizens have been and are being registered to vote in the national election of 2024,” among other “suspicious” acts, the state will not recognize the elected president in 2024.
[quote] The resolution continues by stating that West Virginia will not recognize any Democrat candidate for President if the Republican candidate is assassinated, injured during an assassination attempt, incarcerated, or in any way barred from any state ballot.
[...]
[quote] Lastly, the resolution said that if the state Attorney General, Secretary of State and the state legislature, in which Republicans currently hold a supermajority, determine that the Republican president or vice-presidential candidates are illegally eliminated from the race by fraud or interference, the governor will call a special session to “protect the will of the people.”
[quote] The West Virginia Democratic Party released a statement Monday expressing its “outrage” by the introduction of the resolution, which it said aims to prevent anyone but Donald Trump from being recognized as the winner of the election.

Why Trump Is Holding Rallies in Blue States
By Taegan Goddard
Donald Trump is embarking on an unorthodox strategy by holding large campaign rallies in solidly Democratic states, such as California, Colorado, Illinois and New York. It’s odd because he has little chance of winning any of these states.
Here’s what I think is going on:
Trump knows he can only win by turning out low-propensity voters. A new poll backs this up: He leads Kamala Harris among infrequent voters, 52% to 45%. Among voters who always show up, Harris leads by 51% to 47%. It’s very hard to reach voters who aren’t really paying attention. There’s not enough time to hold enough rallies in rural areas of battleground states to effectively connect with these voters. Trump’s best bet is to hold massive rallies in places that might garner national media attention. He hopes these rallies will expand the reach of his message across the country — including the key battlegrounds. The rallies might even convey momentum (even if there isn’t any) and create enthusiasm among his base. In the end, Trump has decided that all politics is now national.

^ It's a Sunday...at 3:00.
And aside from the Long Island and Westchester MAGA, I'm sure lots of people will take transit in from Jersey and/or Connecticut. Assuming it is over--or they leave--by 5:30 they could reasonably be back home by 8:00ish.
Another factor that may not resonate with much of the country is that the Jewish holidays are falling later than usual this year. Don't underestimate the resentment many of his base feel about having work and school schedules disrupted by events they don't celebrate. This rally will be coming on the heels of Sukkot.

True, but pushback absolutely must be maintained. Trump's 'technique' is essentially another aspect of bullying. He thinks he can indeed wear down sane opposition with his sheer volume of total bullshit.
Best for Harris and all prominent speakers constantly to cite Forty Lies as at R345, and thus dub him The Lyin' King. He'd hate his own tactics turned back on him, and the name might just stick as did 'weird.'

[quote] no not for decades. But the Dems would have a whole lot better chance if the rules were not what they are.
Why on earth did you challenge this statement? The claim about abortion is speculative. Mine is an actual fact. The Democrats have won the popular vote in every election since 1988 (I.e., decades) The only time Republicans have won since then, the Republican had the advantage of incumbency despite not winning the popular vote the first time. If tte Democratic candidate were the incumbent in that election as the popular vote would have indicated, his chances of winning would have been much higher. In that case, we would have had three full decades of democratic presidencies. It is a statistical fact we would have 28 years of them.
On the other hand, abortion wasn’t much of an issue for decades because Roe was in no foreseeable danger, and republicans managed to lose many times despite the Electoral College advantage.
It’s bizarre you consider a statement supported by historical facts questionable, and a speculative, highly questionable one credible

by Anonymous | reply 396 | October 13, 2024 3:31 PM |
R395 not speculative at all. I know what the history shows. I was talking about the future.
Abortion and women are the one single driving force for the dems today and as far as the future. And it is what drove previous de voters. And nothing else is a major force driving the Dems today other than trump .
If abortion would go away via a scientific breakthrough the Dems would be fucked. They would be much less fucked without the EC. It’s women keeping the party afloat. But it’s more likely that abortion will go away as an issue before the EC does.
The EC is never going away.

R397. Thank you for telling the EC is not going away. The fact that you don’t realize that everyone knows that already and that you imagined my post said so is another evidence of your limitations.
The electoral college advantage for Republicans has significantly increased in recent years. Democrats win the popular vote by larger margins but still lose or barely win the presidency.
Abortion isn’t the only throng women care about. You should try talking to some some day instead of assuming things about them.

Yes people even women as you point out also care about other issues.
Name me one issue that can win a national election like abortion can. It’s not peace an old Dem stand by. It’s not the border. It’s not crime. It’s not even guns.
by Anonymous | reply 401 | October 13, 2024 3:58 PM |
R401, that’s very simplistic. Abortion was not a major issue in 2016 or 2020, though it should have been. The economy, Covid response, terrorism, and health care have been major issues at different times and for different reasons. The Democrats would be winning on the economy if inflation hadn’t been so severe. Abortion will recede as an issue if we have an economic collapse.

It’s not out of the question. Our massive debt can only be sustained as long as we can find sellers for the bonds that finance them. Trump and Bush exacerbated this by lowering taxes in growth periods, when you should do the opposite. Trump will be far worse, but Democrats are not going to raise taxes.
Since the dollar is the world’s reserve currency, we’re able to do this longer than other countries would. At some point, it’s not going to work. This year, interest on the debt surpassed military spending.

He'd be lucky to get half of that because most Black men have sense and know Trump isn't going to do a damn thing for them.
I've yet to see a "Black men for Trump" rally and the only time you see Black men at his rallies, they're used as props. Has there been a mass gathering of Black Trump supporters anywhere?
As a Black man, it seems like a scenario is setting up where Black men will be blamed if Trump wins again, which pisses me off. If this election is lost, it will be due to factors other than just a handful of (delusional) Black men switching sides.
[quote]Those deluded black males voting for him will love King Trump, until they realize that he's giving racist law enforcement total immunity.
Any minority who votes for Trump is delusional. Like the Mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan, who leads the only all-Muslim city council in the country who endorsed Trump. "Muslim Ban" Trump. Or Hispanic voters, who back his "Round 'em up and deport" bullshit which will open the flood gates for discrimination against them. Or LGBT voters, who ignore Trump's pandering to Evangelicals that would strip us of all of our rights if given the chance. Or Jewish voters who forgot that he said a loss will be their fault, the GOP's antisemitism and his coddling of White nationalist elements. There has to be a degree of self-hatred embedded deep down in people if they support a man whose shown time and time again that he would gladly throw certain groups under the bus if it was beneficial to him.

Many of the recent overall poll numbers are being swayed by an influx of garbage Trump-funded polls that show him leading.
That way, when he later contests the election, he can say - but the polls showed I was winning
Looking at early voter patterns will give a more accurate prediction

And that’s the experts are skeptical proof ?
One survey after another disagrees with Howard U.

R382, Harris is not making the same mistake that Hillary did, who took the blue wall states for granted and barely campaigned in them during the final month. Even Bill Clinton questioned her campaign's logic that they were secure. Looking back, Hillary really did run a horrible campaign.

R408 In those godawful CNN panels, Black men and Latinos mention him being a great entrepreneur. A Latino woman was on last night saying she never liked him until she saw him in person and then she saw that he was an inspirational entrepreneur. He is a poor person's ideal entrepreneur because who can understand what the hell Mark Cuban and Warren Buffet are doing! Who can replicate the guys who went to MIT and became venture capitalists. But Trump is plastering his name on Chinese junk and selling it a massive markup. Young men and stay at home moms are the marks for get rich quick scams like drop shipping, selling shirts on Shopify, selling ebooks on Amazon, house flipping courses. Trump's hustle is not that dissimilar (if you ignore the 400 million from daddy and the national TV exposure!)
Kamala's life story is actually far more inspirational and she understands these people. Everyone in her life is self made. Her sister was a teen mom and then graduated from Stanford. Her BIL was the first in his family to go to college and now he earns 10 million per year at Uber. Doug worked retail and fast food and worked his way up. It's very frustrating that they big orange trust fund baby is the one they relate to.
But, yes, it will be a very small % of Black men who vote for Trump and unfair to blame them though I understand why they need every vote they can get in Philly and Detroit.

And Kamala has released 20 years of tax returns. She made $70,000 in her first return 20 years ago and her best year was when she released her book. She had her Senator's salary and her book royalties that year. She owned one apartment in SF before meeting Doug. Her salary as VP is the highest salary she has ever had. So much for an out of touch liberal!

Only a true moron could say that black males going from 16% or so of support for trump to 21% claiming they will vote for trump is no big deal because most blacks still vote dem.

An 8 point shift with this demo in 4 weeks? I'm not buying it. It was followed by a piece on 2020 Trump women in PA who are now voting for Harris. All educated white women. I heard one of the talking heads say that Romney was in disbelief because he was certain he was going to win because of the polls, public and esp internal R polls. [quote] Most of the MAGA comments to Baier follow a consistent theme - that they lost all faith in Baier after his tough interview embarrassed Trump last year, and that they expect him to go into this interview with guns blazing to win back their favor. They also mentioned some of the previous Harris interview conspiracies - that her earrings were airpods where she was getting the answers, that she was given the questions ahead of time, that Baier and Fox called the 2020 election too early for Biden, etc.
[quote] Baier is widely considered the best substantive interviewer at Fox by far, which is why he is usually tapped to moderate their debates and Town Halls. His interview of Trump in June of 2023 was a masterclass in how to interview someone who lies, rambles, and doesn't like to get pinned down on specifics. It was easily Trump's worst interview of the campaign - so much so that he trashed Baier afterwards as being "nasty" to him during the interview.
