Off my chest! People who spend 18 hours a day obsessing over and ranting about Trump are losers. Sorry, but you are.
Responsible people vote. I’ve voted in every election since I was 18. People even more responsible than me get involved and help out the democratic campaigns. Furthermore, people are right to be worried about another Trump presidency. We all are.
But there’s a limit. I have a few Facebook friends making 5-10 posts a day ranting about how much they hate Trump. And I just visited my mother this past week. She spends about 6-8 hours a day watching MSNBC and the rest of the day complaining about Trump and repeating all the latest scandals reported.
At one point when I couldn’t take it anymore, I finally went off on my mother and said “do you realize that you are sucking all the joy out of your life by thinking about politics all day?” She just responding by saying how worried she is about the country and she said it with his tone of voice as if she’s morally superior to everyone else because she worries more.
Aside from voting, and maybe getting involved in the campaign, there’s really not much you can do. And why would you want to let someone like Trump take up that much space in your head?

The funny thing is, the average Democratic voter isn’t necessarily any smarter than the average Republican voter. There are still extremely tribal, it’s just that they happen to be on the right side of history this time. R14 Not at all. I’m a democrat. I’m just pointing out some observations. I am well educated with a master’s degree. The democrats I know who obsess over Trump endlessly and post about him are more like lower level workers with no college degree who are less likely to think outside the box.
Here’s the thing. I don’t want to be the kind of person who dislikes people because of their politics. I understand that the situation with Trump is different, and I don’t think I could ever be friends with a Trump supporter, but I don’t want to automatically hate someone just becausethey’re Republican. That is not a sign of mature thinking, and is not healthy for the country.

There are unlimited places for political junkies to post.
There was only one Datalounge, and the way the vehement political junkies spam it with endless, repetitive, frankly tedious chatter is destroying what remained of the DL.
I'm positive it's mostly elderly fanatics who have no one else to accost with their, em, brilliant, incisive analysis about our political system. They likely have no one else to share it with.

R29 I kinda agree with you. I been on DL close to ten years now. After the election in 2016 it seems like the Trump threads died down but then again a lot of people were grieving. But since 2020 they have been in overdrive. For one the potential of him becoming president again is very very serious and dangerous. But also the media won’t stop fucking talking about him. Obviously now they have to— he’s the Republican nominee. But I’ve never seen a losing candidate still garner so much press after their defeat. Like I get it—January 6, but they treated Biden and Trump like equals while Biden is president. It’s just sickening.

I think it's reasonable for people to get over worked up about Trump because it is not just Trump. It is the stone cold dismal fact that maybe 1/2 the electorate support him and the media is so cynical the normalize him as legitimate, for their own benefit. It's appalling on a daily basis. Merrick Garland for example, let this cretin walk. Supreme Court justices in his pocket. It's very very grim.

R39 I think some of them still lowkey want a Trump victory just to say I told you so. Maybe I am being too cynical. That’s the most polarizing I have ever seen DL btw. The post Biden debate. 50/50. Because people weren’t trolling. They actually thought Biden was ok and that Trump’s sins would be more of a liability than Biden’s obvious mental decline . We see that even with people eating cats in Ohio and the current polling how flawed that thinking truly was. And they also thought no democrat could market themselves as a viable candidate this late in the game. It’s very much a generational thing. We need to be like England and have our campaign season lessened to like 3 months before the election.

I think people who express their dislike for Trump in virulent and scornful ways have done a lot to help him.
People don’t like to change their minds. Specific, factual information is helpful. Calling people deplorables or nazis doesn’t encourage them to reconsider their beliefs. You can think Trump is evil and hate him with the intensity of 10,000 suns. You can say that in a calm way. But if you rant about it and suggest that people who support him are also evil and can’t acknowledge that people have different priorities and concerns (which may be causing them to overlook some things about Trump that could be dealbreakers for them), then you are just helping him.
People who rant about Trump are more eager to feel superior than they are to get someone else elected. It’s selfish.

R59 the fact your mother has an excellent retirement explains it. It is the people who are not affected by the affordability crisis and wage theft that are ranting. The privileged ones. They don't care about younger people not being able to pay their rent, about people not being able to retire because they have no money, about homeless, constant foreign wars, they want to enjoy in their moral superiority that their privileged position gives them. Those who are busy surviving don't care about this fake media induced crisis, they know what real crisis is.

r13 / OP. I vehemently disagree with your statement that Democrats are just as tribal as Republicans. Just look at what happened to Al Franken. When there was a whiff of impropriety, he was tossed out quickly (I believe unjustly.) Democrats have less hesitancy to impeach their own. Just look at what Trump is allowed to say without any repercussions from his party.
I love what Barack said about Democrats. “They are a feisty bunch.” Those who vote democratic are less likely to blindly follow and not be ditto heads. It does make it a lot harder to be a Democratic leader, as coalition building is much more difficult. Think about how easy it is to be a Republican leader. You just have to spill some verbal vomit about Jewish space lasers and people still follow you because you are in their tribe.

Just look at R92 and R93, and most of the people on this thread. To most of you, me saying “people who spend all day thinking about Trump need to get a life” equates to saying “I love Trump.” It’s ludicrous, as if you have to obsess over Trump 18 hours a day to virtue signal how much you hate him. [quote] That’s why I’m working on my golden visa application to eventually get EU citizenship. My master’s degree got me a good job in a company that gives me stock options, and I’m using that money to invest. See how I’m using my education to figure out a solution?
Bye, Felicia.
I've got a JD. That credential doesn't make me better than anybody else. I'm not morally superior to anybody else.
On Jan 6th, I watched Trump and people like you, Troll OP, try to loot my duly cast, non-fraudulent vote for Joseph Robinette Biden.
Unlike you, I'm using my education and money to stay here. Speaking of "tribal", I'm Native American. My ancestry in North America goes back centuries. I have no desire to want to leave.
My heart and land are here.
Here's how I figured out a solution to stop Donald Trump from raising his right hand, placing the other on a Bible, and falsely uttering another oath:
Knocking on doors, joining the cause with my feet, not just my mouth and keyboard, and otherwise working my ass off to get Democrats elected.
Now, off to Europe you go.
And may the Statue of Liberty shove her lamp up your ass while you fly over her.

OP has very important and relevant matters to attend to. No time except to insult the concerned working class voters or anyone who spends however many fucking hours they want each day expressing their disgust of Dump.

Nobody believes your master's degree got you jack shit, if you even have a master's degree to begin with. Unless it's an MBA (which it's not) then your master's ain't shit.
The lesbian UPS driver you are making fun of is probably out earning your stupid ass.
Nice try though, MAGAt.

No on can stand to be around narcissistic, friendless OP. That’s why he vents to strangers on an anonymous gay message board and gets angry at his only companionship- his mommy - for not giving undivided attention to him as she tries to drown out his childless, self-centered words with television news, hoping it will drive him away.
Once he leaves, she and the girls get together to have lunch and shop as she fantasizes about the abortion she never had.
