Brian Williams set to Return to the Election Night Anchor Chair on Amazon Video

Brian Williams’ surprise return to the anchor chair is “imminent” with a source close to the discussions telling the Daily Beast that the veteran newsman is set to sign a deal with Amazon Prime Video for an Election Night special.

Williams, 65, has not anchored a program on-air since he abruptly resigned from NBC in 2021. Now, his surprising return from the television wilderness appears set to take place at Amazon as the streaming giant makes its first foray into the breaking news space.

“It’s a reimagining of a traditional election night,” the well-placed source told the Daily Beast, adding that the program would not call the results of the 2024 election, but would include “comprehensive coverage” and have access to the same information as traditional news organizations.

The Amazon election special, first reported by Dylan Byers of Puck, aims to deliver "a non-partisan discussion of that evening’s events,” according to the insider. Viewers will be able to stream the program, which will originate from Amazon MGM Studios in Los Angeles. The live special will begin at 5 pm ET with a "pre-game show" and then cover the election from 6 pm till the final results are tallied.

The election special raises the tantalizing prospect of Amazon entering the highly competitive news business, where traditional networks have faced declining ratings and increasing financial pressure.

With more than 200 million Prime subscribers worldwide, Amazon would immediately be able to reach a global audience of desirable consumers. Amazon has already expanded its streaming offerings into sports and entertainment, spending billions on rights for football, basketball, soccer and cricket and billions more on original programming, including more than $700 million on its Lord of the Rings streaming series.

Booking of guests and experts for the Amazon election special, the inside source said, is underway, noting that there are many notable pundits available to participate because the traditional networks have cut back on contributors.

The broadcast news legend spent 28 years at NBC Universal before leaving in 2021.

“Election night coverage is something that (Williams) has specialized in and loved doing, and the opportunity to do it in a new environment, but with a an eye towards the tradition and the future at the same time, I think he finds appealing,” the source said.

I might actually watch this.

I like Brian Williams better than the usual cast of election night talking heads.

MSNBC is all-female now, which I can't stand.

CNN is too loaded with Trump lovers.

So there really aren't a lot of options.

Can the return of Matt Lauer be far behind?

by Anonymousreply 2September 28, 2024 11:10 PM

Why was he let go again?

by Anonymousreply 3September 28, 2024 11:12 PM

R2 Matt Lauer won’t ever make a comeback. The shit he did was too foul.

by Anonymousreply 4September 28, 2024 11:13 PM

R1, I don't think any news channel could match your narrow niche needs.

by Anonymousreply 5September 28, 2024 11:14 PM

George Santos and him should just team up and write fiction.

by Anonymousreply 6September 28, 2024 11:15 PM

Brian is clever and I liked him until he was caught in his big lies and showed no remorse. Wouldn't even admit he lied. Too bad, he had a great career.

by Anonymousreply 7September 29, 2024 2:59 AM

Again why was he let go?

by Anonymousreply 8September 29, 2024 3:00 AM

Does Brian really have a huge cock?

That's the rumor.

by Anonymousreply 9September 29, 2024 3:07 AM

Will Brian Williams be flying in on his helicopter he flew on the front lines?

by Anonymousreply 10September 29, 2024 3:12 AM

"It’s a reimagining of a traditional election night"

Oh, FFS!

by Anonymousreply 11September 29, 2024 3:45 AM

This guy is a pathological liar. He must have dirt on people.

by Anonymousreply 12September 29, 2024 3:46 AM

[quote]It’s a reimagining of a traditional election night

In what way? Is he gonna be spinning plates and taming lions in there? Will there be sketches?

by Anonymousreply 13September 29, 2024 4:56 AM

Hi KGT OP!

by Anonymousreply 14September 29, 2024 7:09 AM

Just what the world is clamoring for: more punditry, less information.

by Anonymousreply 15September 29, 2024 8:42 AM

Good. I miss him.

by Anonymousreply 16September 29, 2024 9:05 AM

To me, Brian Williams sounds like Droopy. Every damn time I hear his voice - everything is verbally going down from him. I don't think he could crack a joke to save his life, the king of deadpan newsmen.

It's not an unusual thing for a TV news anchor to be smug, but this man's smug looks can be smelled before you turn a corner into sight of him.

by Anonymousreply 18September 29, 2024 1:17 PM

r18, look up 'smug' in the dictionary and you will see my pic.

by Anonymousreply 19September 29, 2024 4:03 PM

[quote]Why was he let go again?

People felt that he was being too guarded about showing off the anaconda he had hidden in his pants.

by Anonymousreply 20September 29, 2024 4:12 PM

r8 You could have used Google to find your answer in less time than your posts here.

by Anonymousreply 21September 29, 2024 4:14 PM

huuuuuuuuuuge cock.

by Anonymousreply 22September 29, 2024 4:15 PM

Really. I would love to blow him and swallow his load.

by Anonymousreply 23September 29, 2024 4:16 PM

R8 He lied about an incident that happened when he was flying in a helicopter in a warzone. It didn't happen. He also lied about seeing dead bodies floating in the streets of New Orleans during Katrina. Floating dead bodies were never documented.

Now please, get some rest.

by Anonymousreply 24September 29, 2024 10:59 PM

R24 What’s the deal with your last sentence?

by Anonymousreply 25September 29, 2024 11:15 PM

^^It's meant for R8. He repeatedly questioned why Brian was fired.

by Anonymousreply 26September 29, 2024 11:24 PM

Of the 1,118 in state deaths (In Louisiana), 875 victims were recovered and examined by the Medical Examiner's Office.

If there were a 1000 drowned in New Orleans, one could image there must have been some floaters.

by Anonymousreply 27September 29, 2024 11:28 PM

I see a cabinet post for him in the imminent Trump administration. He will fit right in with his pants on fire.

by Anonymousreply 28September 29, 2024 11:40 PM

Handsome guy, though.

by Anonymousreply 29September 30, 2024 12:11 AM

I would happily ride his big dick, reverse cowgirl.

by Anonymousreply 30September 30, 2024 12:30 AM

I want him inside me quite deeply. Still.

by Anonymousreply 31September 30, 2024 12:33 AM

Amazon is already IN the news business, since it owns the Washington Post.
