she is stepping down after more than five years as co-anchor.
Things must be really bad between her and Savannah for her to quit.

Not so fast Matt Lauer...

Maybe she’ll go full circle and end up back in True Crime where she began?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 26, 2024 12:40 PM |
I like her and she certainly has a lot of bubbly enthusiasm and good nature for an old broad. She kind of reminds me of Dinah Shore in that was, minus the Southern drawl.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 26, 2024 12:49 PM |
Maybe they’re going to put Ivanka on with Jenna?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 26, 2024 12:50 PM |
R8 Like Dinah Shore in what way 🫢 ?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 26, 2024 12:52 PM |
I'm going to miss her -- I watch Today for maybe 1/2 hour in the morning, and I'm not crazy about Savannah.

by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 26, 2024 1:00 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 26, 2024 1:45 PM |
I hope that's not true, R21. She's way too old to buy another baby. Isn't that why her boyfriend left? He was okay with the one kid, but then she wanted more and he was outta there.

R14, you should check out the third hour sometime.
There are four anchors and they all participate in each interview from what I’ve seen.

Bunch of nitpickers here. I like having a team of players. Yoda is great. Savannah is as well. Sheinelle Jones is very talented and down to earth...her interview with Ryan Lochte on a local Philly station is hysterical to watch. Jenna Bush was hired due to her relatives, but she's come into her own. I want Craig Melvin deep inside me. And Al Roker is lovable.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 26, 2024 4:44 PM |
Great as an anchor, Yoda is. Yes, hmmm. So is Hoda! ^^^^
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 26, 2024 4:45 PM |
Al should leave with Hoda. He’s so crabby and cranky most of the time.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 26, 2024 4:52 PM |
Good for her. She can work a few times a year doing specials, appearances, speeches and make serious bank. She just moved to the suburbs with her kids and took time off when they started school a couple of weeks ago. This has probably been planned for quite some time.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 26, 2024 5:16 PM |
I also really like Hoda. I prefer to believe she is really genuine.
I can't find it on Youtube, but I remember her appearance on air the morning after the Saints won the Superbowl. Giddy as a child and drunk as a skunk, clearly having partied all night. That's when I really came to like her.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 26, 2024 5:29 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 26, 2024 5:32 PM |
Isn’t she on air for four hours every morning? That’s got to be draining.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 26, 2024 5:35 PM |
Sher deserves to retire. More people need to take their money and step back at age 60. Certainly anyone in politics should be forced out no later than 65. Make room for new leadership with new ideas. Know when it's time to go.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 26, 2024 5:36 PM |
Not sure how much she makes, but you can't tell me it's not enough to retire on. She been doing this a while now.

She's told the story of reporting from New Orleans after Katrina — unwashed, unslept, and filthy dirty. There was nowhere to change at the station where they were loading people onto buses, and she turned her back to change her blouse.
A woman on one of the buses yelled, "HODA KOTB! WE CAN SEE YOUR TIDDIES!"

In short, I FUCKING HATE HER.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 27, 2024 12:43 AM |
Hoda is a good journalist. I just can’t stand morning shows. Everyone talks loudly at the same time. It reminds me of the SNL “Attitudes” parody, the hosts jabbering at the same time, overwhelming the guest and back channeling at every opportunity.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 27, 2024 1:30 AM |
As far as morning TV goes, Hoda is pretty good. Her voice is low and soothing, and she doesn’t default to manic pixie mode. Jenna Bush has improved, she isn’t a natural but she is a good foil with Hoda. Their friendship seems genuine.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 27, 2024 1:33 AM |

I wonder if this was NBC's decision ? They don't like women behind the anchor desk as they age - ask Jane Pauley.
In the meantime, I nominate Meghan MyFather McCain for her spot ! Imagine the tension between her and Jenna hosting the 4th hour of the show ? Better than 'The View'.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 27, 2024 2:22 AM |
Interesting that Hoda announces she's leaving, a week after Gayle King inks a new deal with CBS (and King is nearly a decade older than Hoda). I guess the network wouldn't match King's CBS salary, so she walked instead of renewing a contract ?

by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 27, 2024 3:36 AM |
R72 I don’t think there was a queue of people wanting to adopt two little brown girls. I think the oldest has special needs? Hoda has more resources for special needs kids than many younger couples. International adoptions are tough, most kids need extra medical and education help.

[quote] This is so over the top. What happened to this show? Where’s the dignity? Compare this with Katie Couric’s announcement after 15 years in the job. Get it together!
R20 You aren't kidding! Worst of all, throughout this sob-fest she barely even made the actual announcement that she's leaving the show. Some reporting there! Instead, there's like 90 seconds of a build-up, she finally sputters out that she's "stepping back" or however she said it, and then it's another 4.5 minutes of "these are tears of love / I can't imagine doing the show without you" schmaltz. And I say this as someone who likes Hoda, even though I haven't watched Today in many years since even before she came in to replace the odious sex pest Matt Lauer.
Meanwhile, here was Katie Couric's announcement. It starts around 2:30. Heartfelt, authentic, yet still....professional. Give me this any day, compared to the setup today of having half a dozen co-anchors on the couch all crying over one another.

R81 You'd be surprised. When a couple wants to have a family and have their hearts set on adoption, they welcome any child into the family because they truly want the child. They don't have money - they have love and time.
Keep these wealthy celebrities away from buying babies.

Her replacement must be a black woman... a true black woman, which is why I am the only choice.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | September 28, 2024 2:05 PM |
So this is just speculation, but...
I think Hoda's replacement might be Jeff Glor, one of the anchors of CBS Saturday Morning and a previous anchor of the CBS Evening News. He just announced that he's leaving "SATMO" and CBS.
[quote]If you haven’t heard, I’m leaving the network and CBS,” he said. “This will be my last show on Saturday Morning...I love working with great people and putting quality on the air. Interviewing and anchoring and reporting and doing stories that matter and will last. That is not going away, it never will. I hope to see you again real soon.
Jeff Glor is terrific on Saturday Morning—personable and funny—and he's not bad to look at. He gets along very well with his two female co-anchors and is a team player. If they decide to go with a new male co-anchor, I think he would fit in very well in the old Matt Lauer slot.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 29, 2024 12:32 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 94 | September 29, 2024 12:35 AM |

Read the article r98 in the Hollywood Reporter. Or any of the hundreds of other articles addressing your concern.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | September 29, 2024 2:39 AM |
R93, you’re joking.
Glor got demoted then shown the door. No journalistic chops, no charm, no following.
He’s not under consideration.
If you read the article, this show is nowhere as lucrative as it once was. They already have a zillion anchors. They ain’t paying to bring someone else in.

The audience is primarily fraus. They don’t go for intellect.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | September 29, 2024 4:09 PM |
I would be shocked if it wasn't Craig. No feeling about him one way or another, but he technically is next in line to move up. I don't think it will go well for Today if they go outside of the inner circle. I may tune back to Joe Fryer on NBCNow. I would not be sad about him moving over to Today though.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 29, 2024 4:12 PM |
R98, everyone is by definition a second-stringer until they get called up.
NBC isn’t paying massive bucks to bring in a big name from the outside. Given the trajectory of the morning TV business, and network TV generally, those days are over.
The last time they did that was Megyn Kelly and look how that worked out.

They moved Big dicked Sam Brock to NYC and in studio and sent Tom Yamas out to do hurricane stories. My guess is if they put Craig in the anchor it will be Sam as the "news" person ready to replace Craig. I think they are grooming Tom Yamas to be Lester Holt's replacement and Laura Jarret to be Savannah's when she takes off. Carson has zero chance of being anything but the pop culture guy.
