This is what $1M gets you in LA. In a decent part of Hawthorne, CA near Space X.
I like the update but the backyard is small. It needs some landscaping.

Fresh modern interior coupled with a trailer park lawn.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 25, 2024 6:26 PM |
The interior is nice enough, but Hawthorne is a dump.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 25, 2024 6:28 PM |
I like the interior but hate the exterior.

Meter maid Bunifa Latifah Halifah Sharifa Jackson is from Hawthorne.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 25, 2024 6:35 PM |
They managed to take all the mid-century modern charm out of the place. The staging is nice enough nothing really distinct about.
Dining room-living room combo is really rather small and tight while entrance hallway is huge. Poorly designed. Not the best use of space.
Exterior is awful.

Looks like AI created a house. "AI? Create a generic house that's being flipped in an outlying suburb of LA for a million dollars."
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 25, 2024 7:20 PM |
Looks like they spent all their money on their money on Home Depot interiors.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 25, 2024 9:12 PM |
Hawthorne isn’t a desirable area. Nope.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 25, 2024 9:12 PM |
Why didn’t they paint the fucking TV arm the same shade as the wall? That’s irritating.
Also, Why would you place your primary bedroom on the street side? And it has a huge step up to the hall…..this was once the garage. ok.
That soul sucking back yard belongs in Indianapolis, Indiana. It looks ex-law enforcement with addiction issues.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 25, 2024 9:33 PM |
The exterior of the house looks the same as the neighbors', except for the carport roof.
The primary bedroom was an extension (I'm guessing) and is unduly large and so is its bathroom.
Weird that all the neighbors extended their houses in the same way (going forward towards the street). Must be the lot size / shape.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 25, 2024 9:46 PM |
Oh you're right. The primary bedroom di used to be the two car garage with the step up into the house.
And what is now labeled as Bedroom 2 was originally the Primary Bedroom with that tiny bathroom. No wonder they enclosed the garage to get a bigger primary bathroom.
And if the primary bedroom was originally the garage, that means the area that is now the driveway was originally yard.
Would be curious to see what this place looked like when built.

Anybody dumb enough to spend a million dollars for that dump deserves whatever misfortune befalls them.

Your hearing will be impacted because it is so close to the freeway.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 25, 2024 9:55 PM |
Small backyards are not unusual in LA. But this one seems especially tiny. I gather all the lots in that neighborhood are rather small.

[quote]Your hearing will be impacted because it is so close to the freeway.
Oh, it just the Century Freeway. Nowhere near as bad as the San Diego freeway a few miles west or the Harbor Freeway a few miles east.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 25, 2024 9:58 PM |
I actually like the interior and the staging is surprisingly successful.
The exterior is garbage, although I admit the carport is sort of kitschy fun.
The neighborhood sounds questionable and the yard is a mess.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 25, 2024 10:25 PM |
R11, yeah, I think you're right. That primary bedroom used to be an enclosed garage. It would be too weird that all the neighbors did the exact same extension. In reality, they all (the neighbors and the subject house) had that enclosed garage in front.
This would also explain why the primary bathroom was this odd little carve-out in a corner. The floor plan (large rectangle) was already determined by the slab of concrete that was the garage.)

There are decent parts of Hawthorne? Who knew?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 25, 2024 11:36 PM |
R18 I know. I grew up in Hawthorne. We started out right in this neighborhood, then moved across Prairie and then again across the 405 to Holly Glen. Chunks of Hawthorne are now “East Manhattan Beach” in real estate terms. Get used to it —the world evolves, yet still spins on its axis.

Hawthorne was ghetto-town when I lived in Hell-A back in 2007.
Has it gentrified?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 28, 2024 2:10 AM |
If you could read, above, you’d have the answer.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 28, 2024 2:15 AM |
I spit my coffee out on "decent part of Hawthorne."
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 28, 2024 2:36 AM |
Then drink up “shitty part of Manhattan, Redondo or Hermosa.” The difference is now far narrower than you think.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 28, 2024 2:40 AM |
Other than the fact of each being in a different school district, I bet you’d flunk the quiz on “which is Liberty Village (MB) or Holly Glen ((Hawthorne)?”

The house at R22 is one of the most depressing things I've seen in my life.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 28, 2024 2:53 AM |
R22
Ewwww, that looks like a Bellmore, Long Island house. Terrible energy.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 28, 2024 2:55 AM |
How does Hawthorne compare to Lawndale, Carson, or Torrance?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 28, 2024 3:05 AM |
Gawd thats bleak. And note the patches of lighter coloured paint on the exterior walls. That screams cladding issues to me. Run away fast!
Where's the colours gone inside? Bland interior, hideous exterior, for a mil in a not so good part of town.
Nope
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 28, 2024 3:19 AM |
I honestly can't imagine that Hawthorn has gentrified that much since I left in 2007. We pretty much avoided driving through there.
That stats put it still pretty unsafe (12 out of 100 possible safety rating).

^^The, not That
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 28, 2024 3:26 AM |
Does Hawthorne still have Whitefront?
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 28, 2024 3:28 AM |
However, Torrance is 1% WORSE than Hawthorne in terms of crime stats.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 28, 2024 3:30 AM |
R30 Lawndale is generally considered more desirable than Hawthorne, but barely - unless you're talking about the Del-Aire or HollyGlen areas, which are right near northern Manhattan Beach. There are some iffy parts of Lawndale, the closer you get to Gardena. Carson is also iffy, the nice parts are near Cal State Dominguez, the Carson Mall, and City Hall. The part of Carson bordering Wilmington is iffy.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 30, 2024 9:12 PM |
Torrance is a lot nice then Hawthorne.
