Seriously? Andrew Scott landed *two* major gay roles last year ("Ripley" and "All of Us Strangers") "Heartstopper" is the literal first show ever that's both highly rated and stars two openly queer leads.

That said, there's still a rather big, and frustrating, problem: gay actors still keep getting typecast as gay. The majority of Matt Bomer's roles since he was outed have been gay. Jim Parsons isn't merely typecast; he's been in many of the same productions as Bomer. (As per usual, we have Ryan Murphy to thank for that.) Joe Locke's already irked that his character on "Agatha All Along" is so "camp." Also Neil Patrick Harris, Jonathan Groff, etc. I'd be pissed, too, if I was pigeonholed like that.

I think there's a happy medium somewhere here. "All of Us Strangers" might be it: a highly regarded gay actor alongside a highly regarded (and much lusted-after, but also queer-friendly) straight one. Or even "Looking," even though it was on a while ago now: I didn't know until recently that the actor who played Richie is straight.

How is playing a gay character being pigeonholed? Matt Bomer played a gay character in Fellow Travelers but he produced the show with the intention of starring in it, he wanted to play that role
