Well he better last until October 1st and then he better last until he fucking votes.

by Anonymousreply 1September 15, 2024 11:12 PM

No Allman Brothers?

by Anonymousreply 2September 16, 2024 1:01 AM

I remember expecting him to die before Memorial Day. Now we are in mid September and he is still hanging on. But he looks like the the grim reaper, and he is probably suffering. As nice as it would be to live to 100, I would rather live to a healthy and active 88 than an infirm ed 100.

by Anonymousreply 3September 16, 2024 1:41 AM

He wants to live long enough to vote for Kamala Harris

by Anonymousreply 4September 16, 2024 2:17 AM

Sadly, R2, most of the core group are dead (Duane & Gregg, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks, and Dickey Betts).

Maybe those from the later incarnation (Derek Trucks, Marc Quinones, and Warren Haynes) could sit in with Chuck Leavell and perform some classic Allmans tunes. That'd be quite nice.

by Anonymousreply 5September 16, 2024 3:09 AM

R1 & R4, here's hoping Carter makes it until 100 and then until Election Day. And yes, his vote is important in Georgia in helping Kamala.

by Anonymousreply 6September 16, 2024 6:45 AM

What could possibly go wrong in celebrating early?

by Anonymousreply 7September 16, 2024 6:53 AM

R7, making it too 100 isn't easy, is it? Prince Philip and Bob Barker just missed out as well.

by Anonymousreply 8September 16, 2024 6:56 AM

too = to

by Anonymousreply 9September 16, 2024 6:57 AM

It's too bad Willie Nelson won't be performing there.

by Anonymousreply 10September 16, 2024 7:22 AM

What happens if he croaks before then? Does it become a wake?

by Anonymousreply 11September 16, 2024 7:25 AM

Will Jimmy be doing a number in the concert?

by Anonymousreply 12September 16, 2024 8:49 AM

[quote] He wants to live long enough to vote for Kamala Harris

Yes, that's what the family wants us to believe of a man who appeared barely alive ten months.

by Anonymousreply 13September 21, 2024 5:56 PM

^ ago.

by Anonymousreply 14September 21, 2024 5:57 PM

Where are the pics from this event. How did it turn out?

by Anonymousreply 15September 21, 2024 5:59 PM

[quote]Cheers erupted over Chuck Leavell’s performance of the Allman Brothers’ instrumental tune “Jessica.”

Lots of good pics here...

It was a great success. His grandson Jason is adorable. He should run for office.

[quote] His grandson Jason is adorable. He should run for office.

He did. He ran & lost the Georgia gubernatorial race in '14. With the political landscape more hospitable to Dems now, I hope he runs again.

by Anonymousreply 18September 21, 2024 8:05 PM

Is Jason the Grim Reaper who gives monthly updates like "He's dying soon, No, really, he's a goner...no, seriously, okay, just not yet but soon. Soon I tell ya!"

by Anonymousreply 19September 21, 2024 8:10 PM

Yes, R19, but he's not really grim.

by Anonymousreply 20September 21, 2024 10:29 PM

When Mr. Jimmy turns in that ballot Jason wants the whole world to know he was lucid and knew what he was doing. No mater what.

by Anonymousreply 21September 22, 2024 1:31 AM

I knew his health was bad, but…

I still blame myself for DL fav Luise Rainer's death, because I wished her a happy 105th birthday on here two weeks in advance...And then of course she dropped dead a day later. They're really jinxing poor Jimmy with this concert.

by Anonymousreply 23September 22, 2024 2:00 AM

Jimmy just has t make it ten more days. Hang on Jimmy!

by Anonymousreply 24September 22, 2024 2:14 AM

As his biographer Jonathan Alter noted, Jimmy Carter has been blind for many years now.

by Anonymousreply 25September 22, 2024 5:29 AM

I didn’t realize that, R25. Before I read your post and after I made mine it occurred to me he might have been praying because he was at Rosalynn’s funeral.

by Anonymousreply 26September 22, 2024 12:56 PM

R26, Alter noted that the blindness was related to brain surgery in 2019.

by Anonymousreply 27September 22, 2024 1:17 PM

oh, wow!

by Anonymousreply 28September 22, 2024 1:20 PM

I thought he had limited vision, not that he was blind.

by Anonymousreply 29September 23, 2024 1:16 AM

I can only go what Alter said while promoting his 2020 biography, R29. And he said then that he was blind.

by Anonymousreply 30September 23, 2024 1:48 AM

In 7 days Jimmy Carter will be 100 (posted 9/24/2024)

by Anonymousreply 31September 24, 2024 3:53 PM

Agreed, R3. My grandmother was born in 1908 (estimated since there were no real birth records at the time). She was born on a farm and estimated her birth date based on when her other siblings (11 in all) were born.

Anyway, her eldest son, ny uncle, wanted her to live to be 100. She was basically a vegetable the last 2 or 3 years. She died 3 days after her birthday.

by Anonymousreply 32September 24, 2024 4:00 PM

Quality of life is shit those last 3-5 years, no matter when you die once you pass 80.

by Anonymousreply 33September 24, 2024 5:53 PM

I don't know about that, R33. My Dad turned 90 earlier this month. He's on no medications of any kind and sees his doctor regularly. He just recently flew to visit his sister in FL and that was no small feat. He had a niece come to pick him up and drive him to another niece's house to stay the night. That niece than drove him to the airport. He lives in Orange Cty, NJ so he's not close to any major airports. I'm 62 and the thought of driving to NJT (a ten minute drive, tops), taking the train into Penn, walking around the city, and reversing that trip is exhausting to me and I'm on 62!!

by Anonymousreply 34September 24, 2024 8:11 PM

My father will be 92 next week. He and my mom are still living independently. She’s 87. His health was excellent- still driving, getting groceries, doing banking, etc., but this summer he was at Emergency multiple times because of weakness, dizziness, nausea, blood pressure problems…. We just recently found out he has an irregular heartbeat which is the cause. I know my parents aren’t going to live forever, but to see his health change so quickly is terrifying. He had a hospital appointment this morning (and another tomorrow) and walking down the hospital hallway he had to stop and rest because he was out of breath. He said to me that maybe he and my mother should move into a nursing home. For him to be thinking that, I know he’s not feeling well.

Getting old sucks.

by Anonymousreply 35September 24, 2024 10:01 PM

[quote] He wants to live long enough to vote for Kamala Harris

THIS ELECTION IS RIGGED! DEMOCRATS HAVE DEAD PEOPLE VOTING!!!!

by Anonymousreply 36September 24, 2024 10:06 PM

R33 It depends. My neighbor is 97, she still goes to the supermarket by foot a couple of times a week pushing her grocery hand cart which is about 4 blocks away. She also goes to church most Sundays which is about 7 blocks away. Personally I hope to retire at 67 and would like to live 20 more years if my health is good and I have satisfactory mobility. After that I wouldn't complain if I died. I don't think I would want to live past 90.

by Anonymousreply 37September 24, 2024 10:33 PM

R34 right. Morgan Freeman is damn near 90. My grandmother will be 90 soon. Some people just have the genes to just keep going until they die in their sleep but no serious ailments. It will be telling if scientists discover a way for us to stop aging completely.

by Anonymousreply 38September 28, 2024 5:36 AM

R10 Isn’t he Texan?

Is this exclusively Georgian artists?

by Anonymousreply 39September 28, 2024 12:14 PM

Three days to go. Where 's the vulture of death grandson, prepping the bye-bye injection?

by Anonymousreply 40September 28, 2024 5:49 PM

Does Georgia have early voting?

by Anonymousreply 41September 28, 2024 5:57 PM

Yes, R41, but that doesn't start until October. Imagine Trump's reaction if he were to lose Georgia by one vote, & Jimmy Carter voted.

by Anonymousreply 42September 28, 2024 6:55 PM

R41, yes. October 15th

by Anonymousreply 43September 28, 2024 7:58 PM

One sleep till Cartermas!

by Anonymousreply 44October 1, 2024 2:23 AM

He made it! Happy 100th President Cater!

by Anonymousreply 45October 1, 2024 4:03 AM

*Carter*

by Anonymousreply 46October 1, 2024 4:23 AM

It's October 1st! I made it, bitches!

by Anonymousreply 47October 1, 2024 6:37 AM

The first centenarian president. He's not quite alive though, is he?

by Anonymousreply 48October 1, 2024 12:59 PM

Looking at him last November, at his wife's funeral, I wouldn't have bet a plug nickel that he'd make it to his 100th birthday.

by Anonymousreply 49October 1, 2024 1:10 PM

R48...he has a pulse...

by Anonymousreply 50October 1, 2024 1:48 PM

R49 I also didn't believe he would last more than 4 weeks.

by Anonymousreply 51October 1, 2024 8:04 PM

To be honest, R51, I wasn't sure he was even alive during the service.
