Julie Is Her Name
Born 1926 in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, Julie London was discovered in 1943 while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. She began her career as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, and included roles as the female lead in numerous Westerns, co-starring with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951), with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958), with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958), and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959).
In the mid-1950s, London signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional musical career. Her first album, Julie Is Her Name, peaked on the charts at number 2. She released her final studio album in 1969, but achieved continuing success playing the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972–1979).

OP, thank you for starting this thread. I love Julie London, have since I saw her on Emergency!. One evning, while watching the program, my mother casually said, "your father used to love Julie London."
Later, Mom played the "Julie is her Name" album and I was hooked.
Of course, you should have mentioned that Julie married twice and did it well both times... first to Jack Webb and later to Bobby Troupe (also an Emergency! cast member). Those men were intros to the world of jazz and helped her develop what was a unique sound. She didn't have much of a voice, but man did she know how to use it! Oh, and she incredibly sexy... and yea, sounding like a 1960s misogynist, what a rack... checkit out in the video below.

Beautiful, sexy and tough-looking. She should have played noir heroines morning, noon and night.

R11, no you idiot, I am not 85 yrs old... but an 85 year old would indeed use that term and in case you missed it, this is how I closed my post... "Oh, and she incredibly sexy... and yea, sounding like a 1960s misogynist, what a rack..."
