MSNBC is broadcasting a mashup of the highlights of their Democracy 2024 event last weekend Saturday Sept 14 9PM EDT.

I wonder what Claire has under her 'pastry dome' in her kitchen on a Friday night ? Maybe it's a few Entemann's blueberry danish ? '

Did anyone else see the cross-talk between Alex and Ali Velshi tonight? Was Ali expressing a bit of hurt at not being included in the picture with all of his MSNBC colleagues for the Brooklyn live event? He appeared to be, at least for a brief moment, though I couldn't tell if he was being serious or not.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 14, 2024 4:06 AM |
He was probably mildly offended but also enjoyed pointing out the snub. Does the photo include other B team members?

Alex Wagner is growing on me, she should have a better timeslot.

You better check yo man!!!
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 14, 2024 12:30 PM |
I wondered that about the Ali/Alex exchange, too.
I'm looking forward to watching the special tonight, curious to see how the MSNBC stars interact with each other away from the TV desks, if they all try and stay close to Rachel.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 14, 2024 12:38 PM |
I think Ali was a little hurt, but he was complaining to the wrong person - Wagner had nothing to do with the photo they're using.

Is that sarcasm? I just can't tell anymore. She took over the Rachel Maddow time slot.

The audience at the MSNBC Live event appears to trend older than DL
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 15, 2024 1:08 AM |

Luke Russert is a horrible host, if they do this again get someone else.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 15, 2024 1:32 AM |
It's interesting seeing everyone's full bodies, not sitting behind a desk. Symone Sanders and Michael Steele actually look much slimmer. Michael must wear a size 16 shoe!
Chris Hayes, no - you really can't pull off a saggy t shirt with a suit.

The cable news audience is even older than that of broadcast networks. MSNBC's median age is 70, Fox News's is 69 and CNN's, 67.

I think Luke was brought back to MSNBC for the sole purpose of doing these kinds of special events. He is both the host and the "creative director."
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 15, 2024 3:01 AM |
Someone like Jacob Soboroff would have been a better host. I know organizing this thing was Luke Russert's big thing but he is not a good host for TV.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 15, 2024 3:02 AM |
Chris Hayes must have a big dick. He's shaped like a pear but his wife is stunning. She reminds me of (young) Charlotte Rampling.

The perfect event to share Ayman's thighs with the entire MSNBC audience and they leave him out. A missed opportunity.

I’m not convinced Chrissy Hayes isn’t a tranny. No Adam’s Apple, and child bearing hips. Yes, “he” has kids, but IVF is still legal.

Love this Kornacki ad! We can see him walking down the street and then walking into his workplace. He sits down in front of his computer and drinks his coffee. Starts preparations. It's one of the three. There are two more on this account.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 15, 2024 8:38 AM |
I thought it was so disappointing, The only worthwhile segment - in terms of information/debate/discussion - was Chris Hayes and Kate Shaw.
The rest was fluff and self promotion. "The Weekend' people? If you blinked you missed them. Lawrence and Rachel? An almost nausea inducing love fest. Ari and Andrew? WTF was that 4 minutes about?
It could have been so much better, and if it was all Luke Russert's idea/fault, he and his weird hair piece should be put out to pasture. Maybe they'll do it again and refine the concept.
And Kate Shaw is not only VERY smart and interesting, but she is gorgeous. Just stunning.
Better luck next time for the show/idea.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 15, 2024 12:34 PM |
Can't disagree with anything you say, r30. It was all too lovey-dovey like one of those con events, no sharp ends.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 15, 2024 12:41 PM |
I wonder if the best parts were shown, the amount of time spent with Rachel attempting and failing to get Lawrence to do a Pirouette were such a waste, MSNBC viewers know who these people are, we didn't really need Luke Russert's lame introductions of them. Steve Kornacki was there, he was mentioned but nothing from him. I was fine with not that much substance from them, I think this was intended to be more a get to know them outside of their TV roles.
I think I liked the give and take between Andrew and Ari the best. Ari seems so clueless how much many people dislike his rap lyrics quotes, Andrew clued him in.
Apparently Fox has been doing these meet and greet events for years, it was just an attempt to do what they do. If they do it again I doubt it will sell out at those prices but then I don't live in NYC and don't care to meet any of them.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 15, 2024 1:11 PM |
There was one other interesting thing about it - to me, anyway - the segment with Psaki, McCaskill, and Mitchell was also fluff - but Andrea Mitchell looked and acted so much more lifelike. It was startling how much better she looked. Guess it was the make-up, or better, the lack thereof.
On-air, she's always seemed very Republican to me. Her husband is in the Ayn Rand cult. Last night she seemed to be leaning toward rational thought, or Democratic, which was surprising. She seemed much 'softer.'
No real change in her difficulty getting complete sentences out, though. No matter how iconic she is thought to be, she should still retire.

There is an audio podcast of the event shown on TV if anyone is interested at the link.
You might be able to see the event at the MSNBC website but that site just does not work properly for me, I always get a [quote] Access to MSNBC is temporarily unavailable. The problem will be resolved as soon as possible.
I have gotten that message for years.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 15, 2024 1:46 PM |
He looked fine. Kind of shlubby, but that's the nerdy sexy part of him, I guess. He isn't particularly skinny. Or didn't look so. I like when he has khakis and Adidas' on under the table., but last night it looked like clothes that you would lie around in, exercise in, or go to bed wearing if it was cold. Maybe someone else can decipher his wardrobe that night.
They all dressed very casually, if questionably. Maybe they just dressed as they do off-camera at home. I think Michael Steele may have had sweat pants on. Claire looked like she was wearing slippers. Some looked neat, some looked sloppy.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 15, 2024 1:48 PM |
You can see some of the behind the scene glimpses of the event at the below link, none of Andrew Weissmann though.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 15, 2024 1:58 PM |
To be fair, Ari asked Andrew an interesting question - I'm paraphrasing - but it was asking Andrew about how he made the change from high powered government lawyer where he could say nothing publicly to being a talking head on MSNBC.
Andrew didn't really answer the question but I thought that would have been a very interesting discussion of how it actually happened.

[quote]Ari and Andrew? WTF was that 4 minutes about?
It was about Andrew flirting with Ari, in case you missed it. They looked like two guys who were getting to know each other at a gay bar. Andrew was openly flirting with the guy - they way he was looking at Ari and talking to him with his gay mannerisms. I think Ari understood what was going on. Not surprised if the two of them headed back to Ari's dressing room and Andrew gave him a BJ.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 15, 2024 3:23 PM |
I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any gay rumors about Ari but wouldn’t be shocked if he’s the type to be “open-minded.”

Yeah, got that. I should've been more explicit than WTF was that about. More like WTF was going on between those two?
Andrew looked ridiculous trying to get huggy with Ari who looked very uninterested in that.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 15, 2024 4:04 PM |
I also thought, "Oh, Andrew. Really? Ari? If you're going to go fully gay, be a little more discerning. Or more choosy, at least."
It made me question Andrew's judgement. Which is ridiculous on my part. Ari is attractive, but he's. such an asshole.

grateful that MSNBC exists, but the whole effort to brand these hosts as celebrities that are all "friends in real life" is something I find somewhat cynical and repellent. It's probably very smart business wise, and I bet mine is the minority opinion.
Having said that the only interest I have in any infotainment celeb on MSNBC is this. I'd like to know if Jon Lemire has sucked cock and if he will be sucking mine anytime soon.

I was a little surprised at Chris Hayes' lame attempt at humor when he make a joke about with his wife being there that "Who is watching the kids?" His wife is an accomplished well known attorney and she can't appear outside the house without a question of who is watching the kids, when he appears in public all the time and no one questions who is watching the kids. I know it was just his lame attempt at humor but still. I still like him and watch him every night.

The alleged shooter was 300-500 yards away from Trump. That's three to five football fields. Outside the range of that AK-47. Just think about how far that is. If you're in NYC, 300 yards is about 3 1/2 blocks.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 16, 2024 4:16 AM |
On Wednesday's Dateline Whitehouse, while discussing the debate, I'm fairly certain Nicolle misinterpreted one of Trump's stupid and racist comments.
"I read where she WAS NOT black, that she put out. And then I read that she WAS black"
Nicolle interpreted the phrase "that she put out" to be a sexual slur, rather than a reference to Harris supposedly putting out the statement that she was not black. I think maybe she was reading the text of the debate transcript.
She then ran the comment by Sharpton and Tim Miller, to get their reaction on the "odious, odious and misogynous" remark. Tim called it gross but neither really confirmed it as a sexual comment.
Wonder if anyone may have pointed this out to her. Not that it makes Trump's remarks less offensive, but it's the sort of thing that the likes of Faux News would pounce on and have a field day with.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 16, 2024 7:55 AM |

No,no,no. He knew exactly what he was doing and it may have been pre-planned. He does a lot of - for a very stupid man - double entendres.
I heard it as "she put out" sexually - which they've already slurred her with - and was surprised when no one else mentioned it until Nicolle.
That fucker knew exactly what he was saying.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 16, 2024 11:39 AM |

He said she put out, followed by “I’ll say that”.
He was alluding to that disgusting meme he posted about her and Hillary getting to where they are due to their relationships with men.
He was calling Harris a slut.
Do not look for excuses or pretend there’s any misunderstanding here.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 16, 2024 12:43 PM |
Trump loves to do stuff like this, say something where the meaning can be taken two ways and then claim pure innocence if anyone calls him on it. While we can't always know his intent it happens way too often to give him the benefit of the doubt.
I called him out on it when he said it on the debate thread.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 16, 2024 3:11 PM |
What trump often does is a form of plausible deniability.
[quote]Plausible deniability is the ability of people, typically senior officials in a formal or informal chain of command, to deny knowledge of or responsibility for actions committed by or on behalf of members of their organizational hierarchy.
[quote]If illegal or otherwise disreputable and unpopular activities become public, high-ranking officials may deny any awareness of such acts to insulate themselves and shift the blame onto the agents who carried out the acts, as they are confident that their doubters will be unable to prove otherwise.

GA Senator Jon Ossoff was a guest on Jen Psaki's show tonight, following an appearance by the always animated MA Senator Elizabeth Warren. Quite honestly, Ossoff is the complete opposite of Warren when it comes down to TV appearances - no one would describe him as animated.
However, while Psaki was closing her segment before a commercial break, and telling her audience to stay tuned as Ossoff was up next, the camera was focused on a shot of Ossoff staring at the cameras, waiting in the wings to take his seat.
Ossoff appeared to be in a trance, staring at the cameras and giving viewers the most erotic 'come suck me off' look if ever there was one. A stagehand had to wake him out of his trance to let him know it was time to stop staring at the camera, and join Jen at the desk.

by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 17, 2024 7:24 AM |
I was just thinking the other day that you see Sen Warnock on TV all the time but almost never see Jon Osoff. I just thought it was strange that the two Georgia Senators take such different approaches to putting themselves out there. Then I though that seems to be the case with many Senators from the same state, one will be very public and the other one you never hear of. Take for example Delaware's Chris Koons, I couldn't even tell you who the other Senator from Delaware is, I know he is retiring but couldn't name him.. Massachusetts has Senator Warren on TV all the time, couldn't even name the other Massachusetts Senator. Tennessee Senator Blackburn on conservative TV all the time, I have no clue who the other Senator is from Tennessee. Missouri has Josh Hawley on TV all the time, the other Senator some guy named Eric Schmitt, I had to look it up.

At the MSNBC live event in the give and take between Ari Melber and Andrew Weissmann somehow the talk of having a drink came up and Andrew Weissmann felt it necessary to clarify that they don't drink while at MSNBC, how that is completely forbidden. So it was my take that is why Rachel was no longer doing the Friday Night Cocktail.

Fucking Many HaHa Wallace complimenting Melania's body in response to the former first spouse's new book and political ad in which she defends her nude porno photographs, comparing them to classic works of art.
A true journalist would not admire the subject in the absence of actual evidence, Wallace, nor assume the voters have seen the images. Call out for Melania to show the photos, you stupid, stupid woman!
Poor Mike Schmidt.

Regarding Kornacki's sudden announcement of his partnership: Brian Duffy is/ was "producer of on air talent" at MSNBC, whatever that means. He sucks off Kornacki before showtime so he's at ease in front of the camera? There have been several pictures posted of them together on his and his sister's Instagrams and shared here on DL. They met right around the time Kornacki joined MSNBC and Duffy was a lowly cameraman on Today. That's quite a jump from cameraman to producer. It makes me wonder who Duffy put out to to get so far.
It's my understanding there was tiff between the two a few years ago (2018, 2019) leading to Kornacki's chubby stage. Duffy was pursuing DL fave Vaughn Hillyard (sp?). Then his mother fell ill. Both events led to Kornacki's anorexic appearance due to worry and "wanting to get his man back!", so he wanted to turn himself into the type to which Duffy is attracted. Also, after their breakup, Steve moved from the apartment Duffy and he shared, to his parents house. Once Hillyard was off the market, Duffy turned his attention back to Stevieboy.
Oh well, they deserve each other, but I don't give them very long. Both of them are assholes. Duffy can't keep it in his pants (he's still on Grindr!). As many have joked here on DL, Kornacki is a little on the spectrum and is a bit of an overgrown spoiled brat who must have everything his way. He likes to drink and play the horses. His four year contract with MSNBC is up next year.
Some added gossip, his sister was married and had settled into the frau life: a husband (white, attractive in an average Joe way), a big house, a daughter, a son, and a cat. Then she divorced her husband and got herself some BBC, who knocked her up and dumped both of them before last Christmas. It's like her first marriage and kids never existed. Sounds like both sister and brother aren't right in the head.

Wayyyyy too much kikiing at wayyyy too high a pitch--it's like listening to Betty Rubble and Wilma Flintstone giggle for three hours. As the old folks would've put it, "Y'all play too much."
When Lawrence is on with them he looks like he's 1/10th of a second from screaming "STOP THAT HAMMERING!"
I'm all for a bit of wit and levity while broadcasting these things, but the current Big Events lineup just feels uneven, like it lurches from tween slumber party to solemnly reading the funeral notices in the daily newspaper.
I get Rachel's the marquee name, but Lawrence has the seniority, political experience, gravitas, and wit that should've made him the natural choice to succeed Brian Williams as Event Night anchor/facilitator.
It should be Lawrence.

[quote] attrition overall at MSNBC seems very low. The talent appears to be reasonably satisfied with their compensation.
Part of the reason for low attrition may be that there is no other place for the talent to go -- at least the prime-time talent. Since MSNBC is considered to be a liberal network, hosts like Chris Hayes or Joy Reid, for example, would have a hard time getting hired as a reporter or anchor by an "objective," "non-partisan" news outlet. And there is no other major liberal-leaning broadcast network where they could go. Their only other option would probably be to launch their own podcast (like disgraced Fox News stars Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly), but that would be a huge step down in pay and prestige.

Why is MSNBC considered a liberal network? Why is reporting the truth considered liberal?
Should I be watching Fox News to get the whole story because MSNBC is biased? How is MSNBC biased?
Why is the news - or any media - always accused of bias when reporting the truth about Republicans?
Why is both-siderism valued in the media if we all know that there's a difference between the sides?

I'm a regular viewer who, of course, is a passionate opponent of Trumpism, but it's nonetheless apparent to me that the channel suffers from cognitive dissonance. As cheerleaders for the Democratic Party, for example, you will rarely see or hear anything critical of Harris, including the polling that is not so advantageous. So the "truth" MSNBC reports has to be seen within this jaundiced lens.

News is unlikely to be found on major networks or their offshoots. You need to go to publicly funded sources like PBS or BBC, which will still contain some level of bias. Most viewers are bored by objective news and prefer getting their emotions worked up with MSNBC or Fox or CNN.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | September 22, 2024 5:41 PM |
Megyn Kelly and Greta Van Susteran are not reputable representatives of "the other side."
I feel strongly that they will go running back to be certified Republicans when the stench is eliminated, but I do enjoy listening to Tim Miller and Michael Steele, for example, to get a Republican perspective. Steele hasn't actually left the Republican party, and I should know, but I'm not sure about Miller.
I'm not sure about someone like David Jolly (former Florida Republican rep) - he may now be a Democrat for life. Way before the Republicans started moving to Harris, Jolly was saying that if we wanted to fix "this mess", we had to vote for Democrats.
Right now, most sane people of either party want exactly the same things. I don't need someone on MSNBC extolling the virtues of trump etc to feel that I'm getting an unbiased look at the race. Or the world, for that matter.
BTW - See Stephanie Ruhle's take on both sides bullshit. If the link works, you should see her bit on Maher's show. If the link doesn't work, see if you can find it. She's GOOD.

More on Kate Shaw. Father was local news royalty in Chicago. She grew up in a Lincoln Park mansion and went to private school. Went to Brown and graduated first in her class at Northwestern Law School. Clerked at the Supreme Court and then it all went to hell when she married Chris Hayes. She could have had anyone and she chose him. No accounting for some people.

They certainly have other choices available, R223. We're all aware of CNN's and FOX News' long held reputations for harmonious, kumbaya-style working environments, along with fair treatment for all on-air talent. Then there's the newer networks like News Nation or the opportunity to become a pioneering liberal trailblazer on Newsmax or OAN, though they both require aknowledgement of the existence of a "deep state" that controls the U.S. government prior to hiring.

I loved when Harris told Trump to his face that world leaders laugh at him, and consider him a disgrace. He never hears that in person. He clings to what Victor Orban told him - that he is feared - leaving out the important part, he's not feared out of respect, he's feared like a disease.
It must be tough for allies who strategically can't back a specific candidate before the election, but who have so much riding on the outcome.

"Had Trump not turned his back on him, had Parnas not gotten caught, I have no doubt that he would still be aiding and abetting Trump."
Probably, but we can never know. However, it did happen and Parnas took the opportunity to do the right thing. He is an opportunist, after all. admittedly. When in a traumatic situation, people can be swayed to do all sorts of things. But I feel we have to give people the benefit of the doubt in most Trump situations. Trump practically has a supernatural power to attract people to him aside from money and power. We have to have hope that people CAN evolve, especially mentally ill Trumpers.
It was the same thing with Michael Cohen. When asked the same question in interviews, Cohen admits he, himself might still be working for Trump had he not been the fall guy. But he was grateful he was caught as that might have been the very thing that caused him to flip. He's grateful knowing he did the right thing for his children and grateful for the time he now spends with them knowing they have a better future. I choose to believe he's sincere, and I feel the same way about Parnas.
Also, Parnas went out of his way to reveal more information knowing it might increase his sentence, and it did. So there's that.
I'm grateful and willing to believe/forgive Parnas if only for that great clip that ends the documentary when he credits Trump for inspiring him to vote for the first time, "I voted for Joe Biden!"

R247 You’re right. If Parnas hadn’t been caught and if Trump hadn’t turned his back on him Parnas would still be involved in all the nefarious bullshit.
Because he’d still be brainwashed and fully in the cult.
But because he was caught and Trump turned his back he got the wake up call he needed and saw the light.
Think of Flynn, Navarro, Bannon and all the rest who’ve committed crimes in Trump’s name. They all paid the price and Trump’s done shit to help them. Yet they’re still fully in his camp.
I think Parnas deserves the benefit of the doubt.

The news networks now have some reporters who are mostly writing and reporting for the networks' websites and only appear on camera occasionally. They generally come from mostly print/web backgrounds. It looks like Henry Gomez is one of those people. [quote] Trying to portray Trump’s four years in office as a triumph for health-care policy is one of Vance’s more brazen efforts this debate. Trump’s highest-profile health care intervention was his failed effort to repeal Obamacare. Trump kept promising a health-care plan that never arrived. Still hasn’t.

Even if Harris wins, how do you have pride in a country where nearly half its voters willingly support Donald Trump in 2024? Excuses might be made for 2016, but for 2020 & 2024, there is no way the majority of Trump supporters are either that stupid, uninformed, or mentally ill. Leaving the only alternative, in a very central way they are awful people. Not exclusive to Trump supporters, but undeniable for them.

Nearly half of the electorate has been sufficiently dumbed down by Fox, Newsmax, OAN and Sinclair affiliates to the point that they do not see one thing good that Biden/Harris/Walz has done. It is only the Dobbs decision and women, dying that has moved the Dem needle.

We have to pick our battles. Continuity of democracy has taken precedence over pride. The Trump cult has to be defeated at the ballot box and denied the opportunity to entrench themselves in government. If they get in, we're fucked and it could take years (or decades) to reverse the damage.
As for trying to understand how or why any person would willingly vote for a delusional human being who cares about no one but himself and someone who would throw the entire country under the bus if he'd benefit from it, I've given up on wondering why they do. Their hypocrisy is disgusting, especially the self-proclaimed "evangelical Christians" backing an adulterous felon convicted of sexual assault.
Winning the election will not end this, but for those whose support doesn't reach the near-religious fervor of the MAGA faithful, they may finally become fed-up with losing election after election by hitching themselves to him and decide that something has to change if they ever hope to return to the days when American politics was more about policy differences and platforms rather than retribution, hate, chaos and grievances. I don't know any Trump supporters and there aren't any of them in my family. I was taught not to judge others, but I want nothing to do with anyone who votes for or supports him, especially as a minority. We have nothing in common and I don't need extra stress in my life. In the future, who knows, but right now in this environment, hell no.

Changing the subject drastically to something lighter and decidedly more shallow . . .
While watching the Nicole Wallace show today, I suddenly developed a deep, abiding lust for Vaughn Hillyard. I’ve seen him many times before with no effect, but this time he hit me like the proverbial ton of bricks.
I think it was longshot side view of him sitting at the desk in black sneakers, black shortie socks which barely showed above the sneakers and an expanse of bare ankle. It was endearing and made him look vulnerable. Then they cut to a closeup which showed he is beginning to gray. I love cleancut guys, often think they’re the kinkiest in bed, and picturing him on his knees sucking my cock turned me on tremendously. He’s so controlled and buttoned-down, I just sense he’d be a wild fuck.
And yes, I know he’s gay and married to a handsome guy as of last year.

Do you seriously think the welcome mat will be unfurled for the heretics who abandoned their party to endorse the likes of Biden and/or Harris? No, r417, but Regular Republicans are going back to a 40-year cycle of semi-permanent minority party status. Just like the 50 years of prosperity Democrats enjoyed before Reagan.
This is good as it gives them sufficient time on the naughty stool for fucking up the country with Trump.
Also, this time Republicans showed who they were earlier than when we become a Minority majority country. That is what all of this Originalism crap is with the Supreme Court. The SC is basing all of its decisions on the original Constitution, Blacks 3/5 of a person and all Amendments after the Bill of Rights, INVALID. Original Constitution. No organic evolution.

[quote]I actually don't know any Trump supporters, so tell me if I'm wrong.
I can't believe the number of very educated people I know and respect (especially their opinions) greatly, and are supporting Trump. It truly boggles the mind. These are men and women in their 30s - 70s. They are educators, medical professionals, legal eagles, etc. in my very Blue state (RI) and they are for Trump.
Last night I had dinner with a young friend (he's 30, I'm 60) who is a middle school history teacher (in a rather rough school district). For a 30 year old today, he's very responsible and smart - I enjoy my time with him. He's a Trump supporter. His big fear ? 'These illegals' are taking our job. I asked him how many illegals are lining up to take his job as a middle-school US history teacher ? He had no answer.
One thing I do when talking to these friends of mine is to ask them 'where are you getting this information from ?' 99.99% of the time they say they don't watch the news or read the newspaper - as though that's an answer. So I press more and ask where this info is coming from - and they finally admit 'social media'. To which I ask - 'You don't trust any TV or print news source, but you trust social media to be telling you the truth ?' And then that ends the conversation.

I use to love him when he was CNN and Al Jazeera and I even loved him and Stephanie Ruhle when they had a show together on MSNBC in the morning, either I have change or he has. I can not stand the guy now, nothing can make me change the channel quicker than hearing, Hi I am Ali Velshi.

It seems like the entire election is coming down to whether you hate 'the illegals' more than you love democracy and stability. This is going to be a long month of hope and worry.

R438, they're on salary and don't get overtime.
by Anonymous | reply 445 | October 5, 2024 11:33 PM |
R445 Not true. Like any salaried job, you have a certain schedule. Work overtime - outside your normal work schedule - and you get compensated for it, somehow. Either overtime pay or extra PTO. Just because you work for a network, doesn't mean the network is exempt from local and federal labor laws.

They are on CONTRACT.
by Anonymous | reply 449 | October 6, 2024 1:46 PM |
R448 If that law associate is not being compensated for a 16 hour day, he/she needs to file a formal complaint with their local labor board. They will see how quickly those 16 hour days go away.
by Anonymous | reply 450 | October 6, 2024 1:50 PM |
R449 And in that CONTRACT which they signed along with the network (representative), it is all spelled out on what is expected of them in their position / title; hours they will be working; and compensation (including overtime and working on scheduled days off) among many other details about the position. It's a mutual agreement between the two parties.

People who are salaried don't get paid overtime.

Do tell. The employer and year of employment and age of the employee might help the rest of us understand their way of thinking.
Also, too, how far they advanced in said job after demanding their overtime pay.

Miss Capehart lauding the “professionalism” of Twitler reporter Dasha Burns is laughable. What's the Keith Olbermann story - in brief? What did he represent at the network and why did he leave?
by Anonymous | reply 466 | October 7, 2024 8:01 PM |

Okay, so Olbermann napalms every bridge he ever crossed, but does he make shit up?
If not, this is a hell of an indictment, suggesting Eve Harrington levels of pathology. If the MSNBC brass are aware of this, I have to assume they are waiting for her current contract to run out so they can quiet y cut her loose. At which point she’ll probably move over to Fox News, which will hire her to show they are willing to moderate slightly in the post-Trump era.

in July for some reason, I started listening to Olbermann's Countdown podcast. I forgot how funny he can be, even when he's on one of his usual rants. At 4 long podcasts a week, it's still a lot to digest.
But I dip in on Thursdays when he does a segment called Things I Promised Not To Tell. It typically involves a set of grievances he has with former employers and coworkers, it's often very inside, and fun. He doesn't hold back in his broadsides, but still seems to harbor some residual fondness for Tur, whose name comes up frequently enough. It's worth a listen.

T’ anawhoseme Coates’ arrogance is off the charts. He would have us believe that he is now an expert on the Middle East after spending two confirmation bias weeks in Israel. Pathetic, but worse that he can dismiss Black Israeli soldiers as “nominally Black” because they dared to question his intentions in a war zone. I sincerely doubt that Ms. Coates mentions the 200,000 Black Israelis he so casually consigns to extermination in his opus to Hamas/Hizbollah. Old trick trying to define who is actually Black. Just like the current job being done by Trump surrogates on Kamala is so classy. Undermine WOC much, charlatan? Its an outrage!!! Gay marriage was legalized, but interracial gay marriages are a step too far. There should be nationwide campaign to ban the practice and revoke the legal status of gays currently in interracial relationships. Not sure what I expected him to do, I guess hit back a little but he just took it day after day after day. Someone upthread brought up Ta-Nehisi Coates. I have come full circle on him. I support reparations for poverty-level adult Blacks who can prove a tie to slavery and verify their financial status for five years. The payment should be no more than 50k, which is enough for anyone to put their life in order. No windfalls for middle class people I do not care a fig for psychic harm or the storekeeper who follow you around. Everyone has to put up with bullshit. I think statutes of limitation should be tolled for descendants of victims who suffered specific harms like lynching or race riots. If Coates has a problem with a state that was intended as a refuge for Jews, I expect him to have an equal problem with countries where the official religion is Islam. If he doesn't, I'm tuning him out. Has he been on Joy Reid's program yet? I would like to be warned in advance.

R530, it has been at least five years I don't really remember the specifics, they just went after him the way bullies go after people. I just remember thinking how cruel it was and why the hell didn't someone put a stop to it and maybe they did. It stopped rather abruptly. I wanted Bill to counter attack but he just took it with a smile and went on with his forecast.

This is a stark choice; anyone that is UNDECIDED at this point is full of shit. Stop elevating these idiots as if they have something worthwhile to say, or something worthwhile to contribute to the discussion.

R551, Obama is barred by the Constitution.

How did FDR get to run (and win) 4 times?
by Anonymous | reply 555 | October 11, 2024 11:08 PM |
r555 You must be a non-American. They changed the constitution after FDR so that presidents can only run 2 times.

Thanks, r556. And I am ashamedly an American and one who is old enough to have known better.

I know. My post was a counterfactual. If Hillary had gotten the nomination in '08, leaving Obama to run against Trump in another cycle.

Stop buying into Trumps norm breaking.
The Amendment is written for Presidents who do not take an administration off to mount a second insurrection and sedition. Prior to Trump, every one-term president retired. They weren't psychos who "needed to fight like hell" for a position they legally lost.
But then there's our uncompromisin', enterprisin', anything but tranquilizin', STFU Trump!

Not Michelle. Polling in 2023 showed that she would walk away with it, not even close. I respect that she is true to herself, but she knows how catastrophic Trump 2.0 would be. Wish she was more visible since the convention. She could move margins in Kamala's favor.

R560
Who exactly would she move? I don't deny that she is magnetic, but I'm not sure that Michelle the black woman is going to change the minds of young black males that are planning to vote for Trump rather than Kamala Harris, a black woman.
No matter how idealistic we want to be about Harris being the better candidate in every way - the bottom line is that Trump must not win. Michelle won't help there.
The problem - such as it is - is young white men without college degrees and white woman, (Nobody knows what the hell is going on with white women.) I don't understand how Michelle helps with either group.
Or better said, the problems are racism first and misogyny second.

Michelle Obama will never run for President, she hates politics but if she was to run she would electrify both those for and against her. It would mobilize the right against her just as much as it would mobilize Democrats. There would be questions of was she qualified, does she know the issues, would she just be a puppet for Barack to run the country. I would vote for her but I only vote for Democrats, would she move the undecided?

I am sick of hearing about the undecided registered voters. If these nitwit people can’t make a decision by now, let them sit at home. The two prime presidential tickets have stark differences. Focus on turnout of the base voters, plus those Democrats less motivated to take the time to go and vote.

I suspect most of them will. Or at least leave their presidential ballot blank.

Considering how stupid the "undecideds" are, I'm glad we don't have the Australian system of charging people a fine if they don't vote. I think it's around $45. That would bring in a lot more of the stupids.

Trying to compile a list of reasons you would vote for Trump :
- You're mentally challenged. (stupid, mentally disordered or delusional)
- You're uninformed, misinformed, disinformed. (not an excuse in 2024)
- You're evil.
All other reasons - like being a MAGA cultist, a tribal Republican, a craven self-interested crypto bro, a white supremacist, an evangelical, or christian nationalist - can be based on some combination of these three.
Is it possible that these can account for 70+ million American voters?

In Trump's disastrous Detroit Economic Club speech he talked about 1000% tariffs and how much money they will bring into the US. I know there's a difference of opinion, but I really think he still has no idea how tariffs work. If he is not an idiot on the subject, he must believe that his audience is.
