Hollywood is ODing on true crime. Residual effect of the writer’s strike?
This finally premiered. I was underwhelmed with the first episode. Not sure if I should keep watching or just read Wikipedia.

Watching the first episode now. I loved Arquette in other things but she can’t carry this and the husband is gross

Is this the official thread? I’m watching the third episode right now.
The maid was already dead before Mallory so they are definitely playing with the timeline here.

Wow, she looks really good in that picture. All glammed-up.
Is she doing season three of Severance?

What a family. Killing your son as collateral damage. Course he was a killer too. I don’t think I want to see any more about them.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | October 16, 2025 4:12 AM |
Yeah they were all so unlikable I don’t think I’ll continue watching.

AND unattractive, R6. EXTREMELY unattractive.
Who needs to watch dramatized versions of the thing when there are already dozens of documentaries and podcasts of it? Plus the Alec Murdaugh trials which were riveting, and went gavel-to-gavel on CourtTV?

WEHT to the sole survivor, Buster? I'm guessing the white power-brokers of that part of South Carolina have set him up pretty well. Those white folk gonna circle wagons for him.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | October 16, 2025 3:23 PM |
Yep in a nutshell, unlikeable and unattractive. And if he killed their housekeeper too….

Oh yay, another “Patricia Arquette in Prosthetics” award bait project.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | October 17, 2025 1:55 PM |
Is she the new Meredith Baxtor?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | October 17, 2025 2:09 PM |
I don't find this case interesting at all. Likely because they were all total pieces of shit.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | October 17, 2025 2:19 PM |
It would only be good if Nancy Grace were to make a cameo as the lover of Alex.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | October 17, 2025 9:22 PM |
Did Buster ever come out?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 17, 2025 9:25 PM |
My god these people are TRASHY!! Is this the official thread for the series? Episode 1 is a huge trash fest and the men are all repulsive.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | October 18, 2025 8:02 PM |
Mallory Beach’s boyfriend Anthony is an exception to the repulsive collection of men. The actor who played him in the Bill Pullman TV movie was hotter than this one though and closer to the real Anthony in looks.

Patricia Arquette finds this aspect of the Murdaugh murders 'really interesting'

Patricia Arquette Likes to Get Dirty When She Makes Art

I am loving this series. I wasn’t thst interested when it was happening - classic hypocritical Southern “old” family corruption masquerading as Christians. But the movie make it engaging and interesting - and is such a perfect insight into Southern behavior. Good ole boys who are supposedly saintly God-fearing upholders of the American dream - who are actually more malign, cruel and corrupt than any “coastal elite” would dare to be. A great indictment of the Southern Republican strategy thst lead to Trump. I wish we had just let them secede.

The show makes the family look incredibly trashy. There's a scene in the first episode where the 19 year old drives home drunk and the parents don't give a shit. No wonder he crashed a boat into a bridge.

Is Patricia still playing real women without glamour?

R12, they were all horrible, but its a fascinating case because of how complex this case was, & almost none of the people involved in this were kind, loving people, except for the victims of their outright fraud in cases where Murdaugh stole compensation from those he represented who were seriously injured, or the beneficiaries of the decedents.
And then are the questionable circumstances surrounding the deaths of their housekeeper, & poor Stephen Smith, as well as the girl who was killed in the boating accident caused by Paul.
It is just so intricate, & has so many twist & turns depicting outright corruption, that I think it’s impossible to fit all of it into one sole production.
Its a perfect example of what happens when an entire town decides to never question those in power, & just accept the status quo, even at their own peril - which is currently happening right now in myriad ways within our country due to our current administration.
Corruption kills, and/or profoundly burns anyone who decides to accept it because doing so is easier than fighting back.
On a positive note: this family and Murdaugh himself, were eventually taken down due to their hubris, as are almost all dictators and dictatorships.

R22, Murdaugh may have been taken down, but the rest of that good ole white-boy culture wasn't. There are many people in banking and the legal system in that part of SC who were participants in Murdaugh's fraud, drug use, etc who have managed to go on with their lives as if this was an aberration (which it definitely is NOT). There is a stinking rot at the upper levels of that "society" that has not been cleared. After following the story closely (DL did have a field day with this at the time) I am so glad I was not raised in the south.

I just can't dedicate my time to a series filled with characters who are irredeemable trash, played by actors who are not attractive, then styled and shot to look even trashier. Life is too short.

If anyone wants a good read on the whole sordid Murdaugh saga, I recommend "The Devil At His Elbow" by Valerie Bauerlein.
[quote] The show makes the family look incredibly trashy.
They ARE (or rather WERE), Blanche! Did you see the crap from their estate auction? Trashy doesn't begin to describe it.

It’s doing a remarkable job of looking like the South when it actually was filmed in British Columbia. I can usually spot that region right away, but so far no mountains have been seen in the low country of South Carolina.

Patricia Arquette is flawless in this and Severance. A prize a year actress.

She was also good in High Desert, r27. Too bad it only ran for one season.
