Why was their leave on the same beach near Malibu where Phil Dunphy’s wife considered suicide?

I remember watching and liking M*A*S*H as a kid (even though I think a lot of it went over my head) but I can barely stand it now when I’ve tried to watch the reruns.

Still, any time I hear a kid crying in public I think, “Someone shut that chicken up!”

It’s all related to the context of the movie. The John Shuck character (remember John Shuck?) is going to commit suicide but everybody knows it’s just pretend. So when the song is being sung, yes suicide is painless, because the character isn’t actually committing suicide.

The song with original movie footage is more “real.”

My only appearance on the stage was the Fall Play—senior year of high school in 1978–where I came out of nowhere to win the role of Lt. Col. Henry Blake in a “sMASH” hit production of the stage “adaptation” of the film version. I won rave reviews for my powdered hair and fish lures in my bucket hat.

One of the most cynical Hollywood movies of all time. TBH: so much better than any episode of the tv series.
