Mike Farrell

Known for portraying Captain B.J. Hunnicutt on the American television show M*A*S*H for eight years, he is one of the few actors to have avoided the "sitcom curse," maintaining a versatile career.

Since the show ended in 1983, he has acted in or produced a wide range of projects, including Dominick and Eugene, Sins of the Mind, Superman: The Animated Series, Patch Adams, Providence, Justice League, Desperate Housewives, The Red Road, and American Crime Story.

When not acting, he travels the country raising awareness on issues he is passionate about: civics, human rights, animal cruelty, the death penalty, the War on Terror, science, cult awareness, and literacy.

Mike Farrell is truly a class act and deserving of an appreciation thread.

He IS Mike Farrell!

by Anonymousreply 2September 6, 2024 2:35 AM

[quote]He IS Mike Farrell!

Just for once, can't he be Thelma Ritter?

by Anonymousreply 3September 6, 2024 2:38 AM

He is Alan Alda

by Anonymousreply 4September 6, 2024 2:39 AM

He married Ms. Romano's nemesis, Francine. She was really good at playing an office cunt.

by Anonymousreply 5September 6, 2024 2:41 AM

He obviously wore boxer shorts on M*A*S*H and my galling self was right there for it.

by Anonymousreply 6September 6, 2024 2:41 AM

R6 Didn't BJ have size 13 feet?

by Anonymousreply 7September 6, 2024 2:59 AM

He played one of Cunanan's victims (the gay husband of shopping channel icon Marilyn Miglin) in the Versace miniseries.

by Anonymousreply 8September 6, 2024 3:02 AM

I wouldn’t be a bit surprised, R7!

While I’m here - oh-dearing myself for not picking up on autocorrect changing gayling to galling.

by Anonymousreply 9September 6, 2024 3:13 AM

R8 Yes, the kind, gentle, and elegant Lee Miglin. Miglin started by selling pancake batter out door to door and ended up becoming a Chicago real estate titan. Miglin gave back to Chicago, too.

So tragic.

I always liked him as Milton Lang, the uber wealthy father of John Slattery in Desperate Housewives

by Anonymousreply 11September 6, 2024 3:26 AM

I always felt tingly when they’d show him shirtless, or in the shower, or wearing a loosely tied robe around the tent.

by Anonymousreply 12September 6, 2024 3:42 AM

He was so fucking hot. I always wanted to give BJ.....well, a BJ.

by Anonymousreply 13September 6, 2024 4:07 AM

He is also attractive in old age

by Anonymousreply 14September 6, 2024 5:10 AM

WHO?

by Anonymousreply 15September 6, 2024 5:30 AM

R15 if only there was a tool where you could type in a name such as "Mike Farrell" and it would return information about that person, place or thing.

You could call it Google!

Fuck off you silly twat - if you're not interested in a post just scroll on by - it's not difficult. Except for people like you.

by Anonymousreply 16September 6, 2024 5:41 AM

When Yahoo was a thing people in the comment section would go who? Like r15 and think it was hilarious. It’s not. R15 must be a throwback from that era.

by Anonymousreply 17September 6, 2024 8:28 AM

Sorry. Sounds like a nice guy, but I found him boring. And all the other one-episode work he did on TV series over the decades just kind of blends together.

by Anonymousreply 18September 6, 2024 8:37 AM

Who the fuck remebers Mike Fucking Farrell?

Only on Datalounge.

by Anonymousreply 19September 6, 2024 8:46 AM

Glad to see he's still with us.

by Anonymousreply 20September 6, 2024 9:03 AM

Diane Arbus’ husband quit photography and got a role on MASH. Was he decent on it?

I never watched that show as a tot because it had no glamour. Just ferns and mud.

by Anonymousreply 21September 6, 2024 9:04 AM

R21- You sound shallow

by Anonymousreply 22September 6, 2024 11:35 AM

"That Mike Farrell really boils my potatoes!"

by Anonymousreply 23September 6, 2024 11:49 AM

Was sad to hear about his sister, Sharon's passing away last year.

Really talented family.

His children, fraternal twins Terry & Perry.

And, of course, his overseas nephew Colin.

by Anonymousreply 24September 6, 2024 11:57 AM

He'd be a great choice to play Biden in an HBO movie about the 2024 election cycle.

by Anonymousreply 25September 6, 2024 11:59 AM

He was fine as BJ but a bit dull. Trapper John (Wayne Rogers) was better.

by Anonymousreply 26September 6, 2024 12:07 PM

Scott Banning on Days - the clueless guy who loved Susan Martin, but married Julie Olson. GREAT DAYS for that show.

by Anonymousreply 27September 6, 2024 12:14 PM

No way, BJ had more depth and warmth, and set a high bar for sexy, emotionally present men.

by Anonymousreply 28September 6, 2024 12:15 PM

He's been married to Shelley Fabares for 40 years.

If you're too young to know who she is, ask the internet.

by Anonymousreply 29September 6, 2024 1:15 PM

R21. Yes, Allan Arbus was a very good actor and fit right in with the ferns and mud on MASH.

by Anonymousreply 30September 6, 2024 1:50 PM

I like to watch Shelley Fabares interviews on YouTube.

Her aunt was Nanette Fabray who changed the spelling of her name because she was tired of being introduced as Nanette Faber-ass.

by Anonymousreply 31September 6, 2024 3:14 PM

R25, I do see a resemblance!

I remember MASH. Who was that weasel guy? He was good, as was the fat guy who liked classical music.

Donna Reed’s reaction shots are gold! Oscar gold.

by Anonymousreply 39September 6, 2024 5:05 PM

And if you're particularly alert during some episodes you can see that perhaps MF could join that Forrest Tucker/John Ireland thread.

R40 ooooh really? I always fantasized that he had a Big One™️ but had no idea there was proof.

by Anonymousreply 42September 6, 2024 5:58 PM

He was really good as the Chicago architect that was murdered by Andrew Cunanan. He played a Closet case married to the TV shopping network lady who sold make up. She knew.

by Anonymousreply 43September 6, 2024 6:23 PM

Wasn't Judy Light his wife in that, R43?

I knew someone that worked for the real Marilyn Miglin. She must have known her husband was a fan of cock.

by Anonymousreply 44September 6, 2024 6:42 PM

Had a crush on him

by Anonymousreply 45September 6, 2024 6:49 PM

r43 Really? REALLY?

by Anonymousreply 46September 6, 2024 7:57 PM

The MASH theme song has always irked me. IS suicide painless?? I suspect not.

—————

[italic]Through early morning fog, I see / Visions of the things to be / The pains that are withheld for me / I realize and I can see / That suicide is painless / It brings on many changes / And I can take or leave it if I please

Why was their leave on the same beach near Malibu where Phil Dunphy’s wife considered suicide?

by Anonymousreply 49September 6, 2024 9:24 PM

I remember watching and liking M*A*S*H as a kid (even though I think a lot of it went over my head) but I can barely stand it now when I’ve tried to watch the reruns.

Still, any time I hear a kid crying in public I think, “Someone shut that chicken up!”

by Anonymousreply 50September 6, 2024 10:52 PM

He is more of an activist now

by Anonymousreply 51September 7, 2024 1:57 AM

R40 and R42 and the other old man VPL lovers, the link at R35 is a feast of VPL but the fifth and sixth rows show a recent pic of Mike hanging LOW and FULL.

I wear a size 13 shoe. That’s not really huge. It might be a little larger than average.

by Anonymousreply 55September 7, 2024 7:41 PM

I’m an 11/7

Godspeed!

by Anonymousreply 56September 7, 2024 7:45 PM

[Quote] The MASH theme song has always irked me. IS suicide painless?? I suspect not.

It’s all related to the context of the movie. The John Shuck character (remember John Shuck?) is going to commit suicide but everybody knows it’s just pretend. So when the song is being sung, yes suicide is painless, because the character isn’t actually committing suicide.

by Anonymousreply 57September 7, 2024 7:46 PM

The song with original movie footage is more “real.”

He might be boring, but he seems like a decent family man.

by Anonymousreply 59September 7, 2024 7:55 PM

He sho was pretty. I wanted to ride that mustache.

by Anonymousreply 60September 7, 2024 7:58 PM

My only appearance on the stage was the Fall Play—senior year of high school in 1978–where I came out of nowhere to win the role of Lt. Col. Henry Blake in a “sMASH” hit production of the stage “adaptation” of the film version. I won rave reviews for my powdered hair and fish lures in my bucket hat.

by Anonymousreply 61September 7, 2024 8:03 PM

One of the most cynical Hollywood movies of all time. TBH: so much better than any episode of the tv series.

by Anonymousreply 62September 7, 2024 8:09 PM

Here is a thread about the film

by Anonymousreply 63September 7, 2024 9:41 PM

Mike has been a gay ally for years. In a PEOPLE magazine interview in the seventies, he and his then wife said that people thought that he was gay. He pretty much shrugged off the rumors.
