Want to watch a nearly perfect film.

And I guess I am a fan of this director, because I LOVED Saltburn too--

Promising Young Woman-

Minus one plot point that I did not buy (involving Alison Brie's character)

This film is absolutely perfect.

Equal parts funny/sad/thought provoking/guilty pleasure/topical

i just watched it for the 3rd time (I watched it twice in 2021)

It was even better than I remembered.

Carey Mulligan was absolutely impeccable and I would have given her the Oscar.

Carey Mulligan is perfection in everything she does.

The ending seemed tacked on to me. I felt it should have ended 10 minutes earlier, which would have been more consistent with the rest of the film in tone

An Education was a really interesting film too, great cast.

I swear I read somewhere that the original ending for Promising Young Woman had the guy getting away with it and the cycle continuing

Actual perfect films:

Trading Places

My Cousin Vinny

Fargo

The Purple Rose of Cairo

E.T.

Also- Back to the Future. Flawless.

“Basic Instinct.”

by Anonymousreply 7September 6, 2024 12:06 AM

OP? You got no taste, no culture.

by Anonymousreply 8September 6, 2024 12:10 AM

“Homely Carey Mulligan Avenges Pretty Women”

by Anonymousreply 9September 6, 2024 12:12 AM

She should have won best actress last year for Maestro. Whether you liked the movie or not, her subtle performance was one for the ages and should have been rewarded instead of that histrionic bit of acting exercise by Emma Stone.

R8-

Paris, Texas

The Exorcist

Goodfellas

Gloria

The Godfather Part 2

Cries and Whispers

These are some of my other perfect films- I like many different films. I absolutely love Promising Young Woman

Saltburn was one of the most pretentious, unoriginal, silly films of the last decade.

OP, you are either an 18 year old or mentally-challenged.

R2 Yes, it struck a false note with me too. Probably because I was genuinely shocked at the death of the protagonist. Not the way a revenge story usually ends.

by Anonymousreply 13September 6, 2024 2:18 AM

For the Carey Mulligan fans/haters, you need to watch the perfect Dr Who episode "Blink".
