Lin-Manuel Miranda and Eisa Davis have turned the cult favorite 1979 film into a musical

More Rap Icons and Stage Favorites Join Upcoming Warriors Concept Album

The Warriors film, which features a screenplay by David Shaber and Walter Hill adapted from Hill's 1965 novel, follows a NYC street gang traveling from The Bronx to their home neighborhood of Coney Island after being framed for murder. The original film created a brief moral panic over gang violence, leading to a mixed initial reception, but it has since become a cult favorite.

The Warriors stage project was first reported last year, with news of the concept album and Davis' involvement leaking in a report earlier this month.

The Warriors is a 1979 American action thriller film directed by Walter Hill. Based on Sol Yurick's 1965 novel of the same name, the film centers on a fictitious New York City street gang who must travel 30 miles (48 km), from the north end of the Bronx to their home turf on Coney Island in southern Brooklyn, after they are framed for the murder of a respected gang leader. The film was theatrically released in the United States on February 9, 1979, by Paramount Pictures.

I love me some James Remar.

Sorry, but the original soundtrack is classic. Pop, rock and new wave. None of which is going to be represented on this concept album. And who's going to replace the great Lynne Thigpen?

It's like when they did a tribute anniversary album to Scarface, and it was all rap.

They don't even try to capture the essence of what the movie so beloved. Both of these movies were of a certain time and era.

And you can't give Michael Beck and Deborah Van Valkenburgh a couple of lines?

Get the fuck out of here with this.

You know this shit will get produced on Broadway and win all the awards. Producers will be tripping over each other to invest. Don't get me started.
