Liz Cheney throws her support to Kamala Harris
Former Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., on Wednesday endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for president, the latest high-profile Republican endorsement for Democrats.
Cheney's comments took place during an appearance at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy.
“Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Cheney said in a video of remarks posted to X. The university separately provided a clip of Cheney’s remarks to NBC News.
The former congresswoman said in her remarks that it is “crucially important” for people to understand that people do not have “the luxury of writing in candidates’ names, particularly in swing states.”
Cheney previously served in Republican caucus leadership before being ousted for her criticism of former President Donald Trump. Cheney has also said that Trump would attempt to stay in power beyond four years if he was elected to a second term. In the same interview on NBC’s “TODAY” show with host Savannah Guthrie, Cheney said that she would "never vote for Donald Trump, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure that Donald Trump is defeated in 2024."

Cheney had one of the best-selling books this winter (pushing Streisand's long awaited bio off the playing field). She had the top seller all through December, for the holiday season - which means people were asking for the book as a Christmas gift.
This tells me she has a following - probably of non-MAGAs, traditional Republicans. Those, like her, who could never imagine 'crossing the aisle' and voting on the other side.
But she did - and her message to the other traditional GOPers is 'it's best to vote for Harris'.

Remember that 20 years ago she was viewed (quite rightly) as the foulest, most pustulant tumor on the body politic. The Republican party is now too vile for even this horror of a woman.

Just caught the Adam Kinzinger interview on Kimmel from last night (on my DVR) - he said he expected Liz Cheney to declare her support for Harris soon - and looky here ! I guess this was well-planned, and successfully kept secret.
BTW, it was a very good interview which he did. Worth catching (I couldn't find it on YouTube to post).

Nate Cohn:
Nationwide, Kamala Harris leads Donald Trump by three percentage points, 49 percent to 46 percent. Across the battleground states, the race is a dead heat. In every state and nationwide, the polling average is within 1.5 points of the result of the 2020 presidential election.”
“In short, the polls finally show the close election that analysts expected a year ago, before President Biden’s candidacy went off the rails.”

R11. That is the important thing about the whitewashing of this woman. I despise Trump and he did more damage domestically than the Bush-Cheney administration did, but Trump didn't call tens of thousands of people in a war to serve his personal psychological/election needs.

R5 Absolutely not! Cheney and Kinzinger are welcome to continue their efforts to discourage persuadable Republicans from voting for Trump. I believe their cause is in good faith, just as I did their roles on the J6 Committee. But let's not forget who both of these people are ideologically and how they voted on legislation in the House. Cheney voted in favor of Trump administration policies 93% of the time. Kinzinger, 99%.
It's good to know that these two each have a conscience, and where safeguarding American democracy is concerned, there's a line that even they won't cross. But it's a low bar. They can continue their efforts because it's the right thing to do -- I trust that's why they're doing so, and that they both take some moral satisfaction in it. That's great. But let's be damn clear, neither one of them is owed political career redemption by the Democrats in return for ANYTHING.
R13 has it damn right.

The Cheneys run the military industrial complex in this country.
The reason they're pissed right now, is because they don't control it at the moment, thanks to the MAGA movement.
Even though I don't mind her supporting Kamala Harris at the moment, it doesn't make her or her family our friends.
Because if given the chance to get back into power in Washington, Cheney and her friends would be Bush/Cheney 3.0.
And I say fuck that.

Thank you, R16 for your post I'm one who had amnesia the past week or so, and forgot all about their voting records. I'm certainly glad they stepped up to the plate today, and I do hope they are able to influence the 'never Trumpers' to vote for Harris. But like you say - they don't need a place in Harris' cabinet.
And I do admire their work on J6 and glad they stuck to their positions - but still, not for the Harris admin.

I don’t see why they’d even accept posts. They’re anti-Dump, not anti-Republican. Underneath they’re still on the opposing team. They just want to get rid of the MAGA stank and get back to the Reagan era - MAGA without the stank.

Good to see so many clear-eyed DLers. The so called "Reagan Republicans" or the "conservatives" are not so far away from Trump. Not at all. In too many cases it's a matter of style, not substance. Trump said and did some pretty outrageous things and they remained silent for a long time. And they voted with Trump 90% of the time. So good for Liz Cheney, but I know what she stands for and who she is. Same with Adam Kinzinger.

From the family whose patriarch is a war criminal.
'The Sins Of The Father Liz is repeating them all, says America Magazine's Michael Sean Winters. "Shame on Liz Cheney. Of course, we know where she got it," he writes. "Mr. Cheney will go down in history as one of the most sinister men to ever hold office in the United States and it appears his daughter wishes to join him in the annals of political shame.'
Dick is also supporting Kamala.
This is no credit to Harris.

Liz is in this for the long game. If she can be present as the GOP continues to disintegrate, then in theory she will fill in the leadership gap and possibly reclaim power for their dynasty and clan. Her motives are not clean. HOWEVER, she is not a traitor like Trump. They just believe in making money through war, which is super gross, plus they are tribal. So she doesn’t want to be in the Dems administration. Instead, her first task is to destroy Trump, then take back power, then rebuild. It’s a long shot, but there’s no other path to power for her. And if anyone can do it, it’s her.
And yes, they completely shit on the lesbian daughter/sister. Watch the Netflix movie with Christian Bale, it is amazing.

BTW, gentlemen @ R39 and R40, there is actually a living, breathing Barbara Bush, quiet daughter of Laura and GWB. She is the "fraternal" twin of Jenna, and apparently, she's the smart one -- undergrad at Yale, MPA at Harvard.
Here's a quote from her Wikipedia page:
In 2011, Bush released a video with the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, calling on New York State to legalize same-sex marriage.[18][19] "I am Barbara Bush, and I am a New Yorker for marriage equality," she said in the brief message, sponsored by an advocacy group. "New York is about fairness and equality. And everyone should have the right to marry the person that they love.'"[19] Bush joined other children of prominent Republican politicians—including Meghan McCain and Mary Cheney—in endorsing gay marriage.[19]
But it doesn't surprise me that you've forgotten all about her.

Liz Cheney says it’s ‘not enough’ for anti-Trump Republicans to vote for someone other than Harris
Former GOP Rep. Liz Cheney encouraged anti-Trump Republicans and independents Sunday to consider voting for Harris, saying it’s “not enough” to write in someone other than former Trump in the November election.
“Given how close this race is, in my view, again, it’s not enough. You have many Republicans out there who are saying, ‘Well, you know, we’re not going to vote for him, but we will write someone else in,’” Cheney said in an interview on ABC News’ “This Week.” “And I think that this time around, that’s not enough, that it’s important to actually cast a vote for Vice President Harris.”
Asked why she decided to support Harris, Cheney said that she had never voted for a Democrat in her 40 years of voting but that Trump “poses a challenge and a threat fundamentally to the republic.”
