Wikipedia suggests Barton’s protection is unusual:
The Secret Service is tasked with ensuring the safety of the president of the United States, the vice president of the United States, the president-elect of the United States, the vice president-elect of the United States, and their immediate families; former presidents, their spouses and their children under the age of 16; those in the presidential line of succession, major presidential and vice-presidential candidates and their spouses; and visiting foreign heads of state and heads of government. By custom, it also provides protection to the secretary of the treasury and secretary of homeland security, as well as other people as directed by the president (usually the White House chief of staff and national security advisor, among others). Former Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle told the congressional oversight committee that as of 22nd of July 2024 the secret service has a total of 36 protectees. By federal statute, the president and vice president may not refuse this protection.[

Washington Square, Park is hardly a college campus. Yes, there are tons of college students there, but also locals, dog walkers, tourists, plus drug sellers and buyers from around the tri-state area.
The park was renovated about 15 years ago and for a while it looked great. Police got the drug dealers out of the park (though they probably just moved somewhere nearby).
Post Covid, the park is out of control. I went to college in a big city, but I wouldn’t want to be a college student at NYC. If I were a parent, I wouldn’t want my 18 year old there on his own. Of course, there’s only so much trouble that Barron Trump can get into with the security detail he’ll have.

1) The undergraduate track at Dyson School at Cornell has an acceptance rate of 3%. Cornell is 7-10% depending on the school.
2) STERN does have undergraduate program at NYU and the acceptance rate is 6-12%.
3) Daddy Trump would have preferred Cornell since it is Ivy League, and NYU Is not, even though Dyson is half statutory division (state supported).
4) Barron is TOO STUPID to be accepted to either program through the normal procedure.

JFK Jr had a special faculty advisor who was in constant contact with both Jackie and the Brown President. Everything was done to make it possible for him to make it through. And it is NOT hard to make it through the Ivy League, except Cornell, which is the Ivy grind school (along with MIT, which is not Ivy but used to participate in the same admissions agreements). Brown for a long time was the easiest ride because "fails" disappear.

R241 continues to be stupid as hell.
This is how it works in NYS: you receive and accept a job offer before you graduate from law school, with the expectation that you must pass the exam and be admitted to the bar. Then you take the bar exam in July. Then in August or September you start work (but you are not officially a lawyer, yet). In November you find out if you passed the exam—if you did, then subject to the final background check you are sworn in early the next year. If you failed, then most offices or law firms give you one or two more bites at the apple. In the interim you are not officially practicing law—you are a clerk or the equivalent. Rinse and repeat until you are admitted or tossed to the curb.

Melania also noted that 'Little Donald' admires his father's career and success. "He likes the way he talks, the way he is," she continued. "They have beautiful respect and admiration for each other."
Barron has also been known to emulate his father's looks and mannerisms."

Chelsea Clinton though, defended him to her credit.
When I was younger, we believed that more mature and emotionally developed people choose left or liberal side. Nowadays, it looks like liberal side has been attracting many mentally unstable, narcissistic and vicious characters who are no better than the right wing bigots.

That’s why the have Gallatin…
And P.S. what’s their yield in that 12%?
by Anonymous | reply 286 | September 6, 2024 5:47 PM |
R285. That’s because they get tens of thousands of applications from kids who have no plans for, or hope of, going there.

That’s true of all elite schools.

Certain schools are an outlier in the raw number of applications received. NYU is one.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | September 6, 2024 5:55 PM |
R288 right. People say the most idiotic things on this site. NYU is a premier school. Yes it is the selected school for a lot of high achieving white students who couldn’t get into the Ivies but NYU is very much one of the top schools in the country. It’s business and film school are candidate’s first choice as well as it’s communication/media studies program. Many A+ from around the country want to go to NYU just to live in New York and in some circles it seen as cooler than Columbia.

Which circle of hell is that?
by Anonymous | reply 293 | September 6, 2024 5:58 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 294 | September 6, 2024 5:59 PM |
NYU is considered one of the non Ivy elite schools. Yall are bugging. Just like Georgetown, just like Emory, UMD College Park, UVA, Stanford, UCLA, University of Chicago, Vanderbilt and about a dozen other universities.

R294 He is trying to make the argument that a bunch of basic bitches around the country are applying to NYU and are not even competitive. But with college application fees being as expensive as they are and the college process very meticulous it’s not fucking true.
by Anonymous | reply 297 | September 6, 2024 6:02 PM |
It’s called the Common App. Just because you don’t think, doesn’t make it not true.
Do a comparative analysis of raw applications vs. class size vs. yield and get back to us.

NYU was for 15 years or so the single school producing BA students with the highest loan debts. They have improved but are hardly stellar. A commuter school that grew into a fine school but never had the wealth or fineness across the board as the most ivies. Some NYU schools are fantastic, others not so much. It has HALF the endowment of Cornell, by the way. And Cornell does not in-debt its students for the privilege of attending. NYU was greedy greedy greedy for years, ripping off the children of the upper middle class with very little outright grants. It's better now that they simply attract and admit the very rich. I'm fine with that. I'm sure those kids have a blast. Nobody should be taking out extravagant loans to attend NYU undergrad.
by Anonymous | reply 302 | September 6, 2024 6:18 PM |
R299 I would agree there are different tiers amongst the non Ivy elites with MIT, Stanford, University of Chicago, and Georgetown being at the top of strata. In that order. And then NYU, UVA, Emory, UMD, UCA, USC, Notre Dame with the order being less important. Then the bottom tier I would say schools like George Washington, Syracuse, Binghamton, USC, University of Arizona, George Mason. Then you schools like Smith and Bates and Bard College which are somewhere in between the Ivies and NYU. They are also so different in size and structure and with Bard so alternative the comparison becomes more challenging.

R330 A lot of people don’t know about Bard and thus don’t apply. It’s one of those schools in the elite but only the elite is applying. I mean elite in terms of socioeconomic status. It’s the school where the alternative or trans kids of Hollywood actors go or just cool weirdos. I went to the high school in the city.
by Anonymous | reply 332 | September 6, 2024 6:44 PM |
R331 You mean Felicity. I would argue NYU’s reputation had been enhanced slightly before then and thus why it was selected for the show. NYU was not just a commuter school for the most of the 80s and the 90s. You are over simplifying things. It was never Hunter college.

What is Wesleyan's reputation? I'm not American, but the daughter of a friend of mine applied and was rejected. She was very disappointed, as she'd dreamed of attending there for years. by Anonymous | reply 344 | September 6, 2024 8:01 PM |
Wesleyan is a top small private university but it could use a larger endowment, which is only 1.5 billion. Williams and Amherst colleges are even smaller and have double the endowment. Rice is smallish and SWIMMING in money.
by Anonymous | reply 345 | September 6, 2024 8:06 PM |
R340 Wesleyan is prestigious. Bard College is an excellent alternative though it isn’t as selective. I went to the high school in the lower east side of Manhattan. Who is the idiot that keeps posting selection percentages as if that is the only criteria. UMD college park is not attracting a national pool of applicants; it is still a good school. The schools with great nationally known sports teams have money and thus are good. UMD is one of the better public state schools.

Elite it ain’t.
by Anonymous | reply 352 | September 6, 2024 8:33 PM |
Ok maybe it’s not elite because it’s not average. It’s a step up. Rutgers is also very good school. I don’t think some of you elders realize how competitive college has become since the late 90s. These schools may have been average back in the 60s or 70s but they haven’t been since I graduated from high school in 06.
by Anonymous | reply 353 | September 6, 2024 8:34 PM |
I worked for NYU in the early 80’s. At that time, admissions standards were relatively low for undergraduates. Since then it has grown quite competitive. Like any other large university, the quality of teaching varied from department to department — then and now. For gaylings who wanted an urban campus, it was heaven on earth—even in the 80s. Side note: a friend who served as a former Dean of Freshmen at Harvard, told me that she would be hesitant to encourage her children to apply. While undergrad Ivy credential may impress some employers, it isn’t the golden ticket of days past.
by Anonymous | reply 354 | September 6, 2024 8:36 PM |

What is with all these posters reverently citing admission percentages and the "rankings" of US News etc.? Suffice it to say that NYU is much better than poor Barron could have gotten into without his father's money and connections, and that he's only going there because his mommy will be living in midtown. He'll probably live there with her too.
Comparing colleges is a crude business with a lot of variables and apples/oranges situations. Notoriously, Chicago's ranking shot up when Bob Zimmer directed the admissions office to flood the zone with advertising: suddenly they were getting a ton more applications, most of which were tossable, and their admission percentage plummeted, highly impressing the rankings-makers.

He’ll always live with his mom. Something’s off with him.

He probably is not allowed to live on campus as part of the agreement to attend NYU.

R392 A star captain of a college ball team requires many many many skills that Barron Trump will never have.

[quote] Despite his height he likely has no inclination to basketball or other athletic sports.
He'll make it to Special Olympics.

Barron SPEAKS (sort of--"rare" footage of the disturbed young man as a young boy, with the mother who *truly* loves him)

Well, if he has an enormous Schwanzstucker, Lurch should be very popular.

Does he know the locations of the gloryholes?

Unfortunately, he also inherited dad's tiny fingers.

Now, he'll never get laid.

I'm surprised no one in the media is digging into the fact that Barron got his father elected. Not Jr, Eric or that ugly girl or dropout Ivanka. Barron was the one who pushed the campaign onto bro-social podcasts culminating in Rogan. And it was these voters migrating over to Trump that delivered the swing states. A curious reporter would look into whether Barron is the one Trump child with talent.

R406 Except I haven't seen a shred of proof that's true.
Trump got about the same number of votes he got in 2020. Pretty much the same people who voted for him in 20, did so in 24.
The Dems got considerably less.

R406 He's clearly the one with the most sense, if nothing else in that he knows how to stay quiet.

I think they're the perfect size....

R406 this article is from a few days ago.
[quote]But he's also being credited as a big reason why his dad was able to reach the Gen Z bros; reports say he told his dad which influencers to court.
