Barron is at NYU

I’m sure he’ll make lots of friends

While I'm not part of the "leave him alone, he's a kid" crowd, I do believe that he hasn't really said or done anything to deserve the hate he gets.

He might be like the handful of other cheeto relatives who disavow him.

by Anonymousreply 7September 4, 2024 7:13 PM

r3 He's hardly "beaming".

by Anonymousreply 8September 4, 2024 7:13 PM

R6, you're not being WOKE and the PC crowd will demand you call Barron "Developmentally Disabled."

by Anonymousreply 9September 4, 2024 7:15 PM

he's still not into you. no matter how many threads you start on him. which i believe is at about 2,000.

by Anonymousreply 10September 4, 2024 7:20 PM

Did he get kicked out of Cornell already? Is this his backup school?

by Anonymousreply 11September 4, 2024 7:26 PM

Only a matter of time before Melanie and he ditch the last name, Trump.

by Anonymousreply 12September 4, 2024 7:35 PM

^ Melania

by Anonymousreply 13September 4, 2024 7:36 PM

Why is he dressed so formally? Most college students wear shorts and tees to class.

by Anonymousreply 14September 4, 2024 7:38 PM

[quote] He's a very smart guy, and he'll be going to stern the Business School, which is a great school at NYU,' said proud father Donald Trump.

Like his failure of a father who claimed he went to Wharton when he transferred as an undergrad and never earned an MBA, you don’t get to call undergrad NYU business administration study “going to Stern, the business school.”

And they get on Walz for being an assistant coach.

by Anonymousreply 15September 4, 2024 7:39 PM

Why does he have SS protection? For ex presidents that should stop for dependents over 18.

by Anonymousreply 16September 4, 2024 7:40 PM

.. and why is he dressed like first day at catholic elementary school?

by Anonymousreply 17September 4, 2024 7:42 PM

R16, because his father is a candidate (I think).

by Anonymousreply 18September 4, 2024 7:43 PM

r16 They changed the law under Biden, Jared and Ivanka have it as well. Indefinitely, at that.

by Anonymousreply 19September 4, 2024 7:43 PM

Because he is special!

…is father is the nominee—that’s why

by Anonymousreply 20September 4, 2024 7:43 PM

don't talk to any blecks

by Anonymousreply 21September 4, 2024 7:44 PM

So you would say no SS protection for the Obama children? That dog of a Clinton girl(though I think she's aged out). Of course you wouldn't believe that. Leftist hacks are hypocrites.

by Anonymousreply 22September 4, 2024 7:44 PM

r18 No, it's been changed to cover the families of former presidents, look at r19.

by Anonymousreply 23September 4, 2024 7:44 PM

From the recent stories coming out about Barron's childhood antics, the SS protection is to safeguard all of us from him

by Anonymousreply 24September 4, 2024 7:44 PM

It's going to be a lot more difficult concealing any meltdowns on the NYU campus. Let me fetch my popcorn...

by Anonymousreply 25September 4, 2024 7:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 26September 4, 2024 7:58 PM

R19 is wrong

by Anonymousreply 27September 4, 2024 7:58 PM

He’s 18 and he’s the child of a nominee —he gets protection.

None of the other children get protection on their own, unless they are in the presence of Donald and Melania.

Do the Bush daughters get protection. No.

Do the Obama daughters get protection. No.

Does Chelsea get protection. No.

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2024 8:05 PM

Someone let r25 know that NYU doesn’t even have a campus—and that he’s living nowhere near any NYU academic building.

by Anonymousreply 29September 4, 2024 8:07 PM

Uh, yes, NYU has campuses. It's not an online university.

by Anonymousreply 30September 4, 2024 8:11 PM

Give him a couple of years and he'll be the first mass shooter in the history of NYU.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2024 8:14 PM

He's getting the protection because he's the child of the presidential nominee of a major party, not because his dad was formerly the president.

by Anonymousreply 32September 4, 2024 8:15 PM

The kids usually only get protection until age 16 It would be renewed with a credible threat.

You might want to apologize for such a lame post.

by Anonymousreply 47September 4, 2024 8:47 PM

He may be auditing a couple of classes as a special student but he is not among the admitted kids enrolled. He is of substandard intellect from everything I have read and in no way shape or form had the grades or scores to get into NYU. No shade. I couldn't have gotten in either. I just hate that Dump lies literally 24/7 and never gets called out for it in any real way.

by Anonymousreply 52September 4, 2024 8:58 PM

Obviously Barron and Melania returned to Trump Tower a while ago, where they will stay for the duration of his undergrad years. Melania won't be living in the White House- and hopefully Trump either.

But I still believe all 3 will abscond to Slovenia or somewhere if Trump faces prosecution and/or some kind of imprisonment.

by Anonymousreply 53September 4, 2024 8:58 PM

No one arrives at college by being sidled to the “dean’s office” and then to class.. no orientation, no nothing? I smell bullshit…or their “Galletin School.”

by Anonymousreply 54September 4, 2024 9:03 PM

I bet he's at Gallitin, the independent study school at NYU. Stern my ass.

He gets SS protection because of the recent attempt on his Dad, the security standards were heightened after that. Otherwise I don't think he'd have it (he's over 18).

by Anonymousreply 55September 4, 2024 9:03 PM

Posted at same time at r54 - we think alike. Gallatin is very easy to be admitted to.

by Anonymousreply 56September 4, 2024 9:04 PM

But Gallatin is artsy.

by Anonymousreply 57September 4, 2024 9:10 PM

How does this work? He's commuting to/from Trump Tower every day? So a secret service person follows him to each class then sits outside? Is he really in normal classes? Do the other students tell him his dad is a total dick to his face or behind his back?

by Anonymousreply 58September 4, 2024 9:12 PM

All of the above.

by Anonymousreply 59September 4, 2024 9:13 PM

[quote]But Gallatin is artsy.

Because it's independent study. A lot of Hollywood types go there - Karlie Kloss, the Olsen twins, Anne Hathaway, Rooney Mara.

by Anonymousreply 60September 4, 2024 9:14 PM

They probably had to pay for 4 years in advance- out of state student fees, too.

by Anonymousreply 61September 4, 2024 9:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 62September 4, 2024 9:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 63September 4, 2024 9:25 PM

by Anonymousreply 64September 4, 2024 9:34 PM

Given the ongoing legal issues, if I were NYU, I'd want the Trumps to pay for 4 years upfront now as well

Wikipedia suggests Barton’s protection is unusual:

The Secret Service is tasked with ensuring the safety of the president of the United States, the vice president of the United States, the president-elect of the United States, the vice president-elect of the United States, and their immediate families; former presidents, their spouses and their children under the age of 16; those in the presidential line of succession, major presidential and vice-presidential candidates and their spouses; and visiting foreign heads of state and heads of government. By custom, it also provides protection to the secretary of the treasury and secretary of homeland security, as well as other people as directed by the president (usually the White House chief of staff and national security advisor, among others). Former Secret Service director Kimberly Cheatle told the congressional oversight committee that as of 22nd of July 2024 the secret service has a total of 36 protectees. By federal statute, the president and vice president may not refuse this protection.[

Washington Square, Park is hardly a college campus. Yes, there are tons of college students there, but also locals, dog walkers, tourists, plus drug sellers and buyers from around the tri-state area.

The park was renovated about 15 years ago and for a while it looked great. Police got the drug dealers out of the park (though they probably just moved somewhere nearby).

Post Covid, the park is out of control. I went to college in a big city, but I wouldn’t want to be a college student at NYC. If I were a parent, I wouldn’t want my 18 year old there on his own. Of course, there’s only so much trouble that Barron Trump can get into with the security detail he’ll have.

1) The undergraduate track at Dyson School at Cornell has an acceptance rate of 3%. Cornell is 7-10% depending on the school.

2) STERN does have undergraduate program at NYU and the acceptance rate is 6-12%.

3) Daddy Trump would have preferred Cornell since it is Ivy League, and NYU Is not, even though Dyson is half statutory division (state supported).

4) Barron is TOO STUPID to be accepted to either program through the normal procedure.

He is may have had a back door entrance to NYU.

I still don't really see him in general population classes. He can be in the classroom but he won't be alone without security until the election at least. Is one of his classmates allowed to ask him out for milkshakes after class?

by Anonymousreply 152September 5, 2024 3:48 PM

I’m not sure that we should place so much credence in the Daily Mail’s reporting that they were Secret Service agents. They might be private security.

by Anonymousreply 153September 5, 2024 3:57 PM

Yikes that clip at r135! I thought it was AI until I re-watched it - it's genuine! So stilted, fake and forced. What the F does she think she has to say to people, what do we not already know about her. Is she going to include her nudie photos in her book lol.

by Anonymousreply 154September 5, 2024 4:20 PM

Funny considering that Trump insists New York is a terrible, crime-filled hellhole

And I bet Barron got in with lower grades and scores than his classmates yet Republicans screech about affirmative action and DEI hires

The Melania book trailer is amazing. ROTFL

by Anonymousreply 156September 5, 2024 4:32 PM

tRump extended Secret Service protection for Ivanka & Co. for six months after his presidency ended as one of his final FU acts. I don't think it was extended beyond that by Biden.

Girlies, maybe he gets protection, because he is a very young, bearly 18, son of a presidential candidate who was almost assasinated last month?

by Anonymousreply 159September 5, 2024 4:35 PM

R148 is 100% wrong. Adult children of past presidents get no SS protection.

by Anonymousreply 160September 5, 2024 4:38 PM

Nor should they

by Anonymousreply 161September 5, 2024 4:42 PM

R159 NO exceptions!

by Anonymousreply 162September 5, 2024 4:43 PM

As stated upthread, he's normally not supposed to get SS protection but probably is getting it now due to the recent assassination attempt on The Donald. His father's team probably requested some enhanced security in the wake of that, and they received it. RFK Jr also finally got SS guards after Trump's shooting in July.

by Anonymousreply 163September 5, 2024 6:34 PM

Or, he is NOT getting Secret Service protection.

Unless it’s some type of cultural tradition of admitting US presidents children because of the respect of the presidency. There are people richer than Trump. You can’t just buy your way into a prestigious university unless you have a family legacy there.

by Anonymousreply 190September 5, 2024 11:11 PM

R189 My point exactly. The family mafuckin legacy. Trumps legacy is at the University of Pennsylvania NOT NYU. JFK Jr’s family has legacy at Harvard.

by Anonymousreply 191September 5, 2024 11:13 PM

R189 that was the law school — believe it or not they have different standards. I have some confidence that John Jr. was closer to the median admit at NYU LAW than Barron was to Gallatin “Stern”

by Anonymousreply 192September 5, 2024 11:14 PM

Right we’re talking about law school. Ones LSAT score will be heavily weighted. Also I was mistaken John John went to Brown not Harvard. I don’t know what his grades were like at Brown and neither do you guys.

by Anonymousreply 193September 5, 2024 11:16 PM

^ as someone who worked at a white shoe firm, and shared a secretary with, JFK Jr.’s best friend at NYU Law: John was not so outside the standard… he did well enough. Plenty of decent lawyers flunk the bar exam at first bat…

by Anonymousreply 194September 5, 2024 11:18 PM

I don’t even think law schools and medical schools even practice family legacy like undergrads or master programs. Those are professional schools. They have to. ensure the candidate is up to par.

by Anonymousreply 195September 5, 2024 11:18 PM

JFK Jr. didn’t go to Harvard. He went to Brown.

NYU Law School has much higher standards than the colleges.

He himself said he was not qualified to get in and that they took him without going through the normal admissions process. He did very poorly and never passed the bar

by Anonymousreply 196September 5, 2024 11:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 206September 5, 2024 11:30 PM

For the Magical moron: the DA’s office gives bar exam-flunkers the extra chance(s) before they are dropped. No one, but no one, is allowed to practice law beyond the cut-off. What don’t you understand about the practice of law?…my guess is you understand nothing at all

by Anonymousreply 207September 5, 2024 11:34 PM

This kid is no JFK, Jr. Let's get that straight. Unless China and/or Russia can hack the NYU grade reporting system, he'll be attending University of Phoenix online by January.

by Anonymousreply 208September 5, 2024 11:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 209September 5, 2024 11:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 210September 5, 2024 11:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 211September 5, 2024 11:38 PM

Strangely, after two centuries of rodent problems in the White House, the number of rats plummeted between 2017 and 2020.

Then they were back.

Now we read the infamous rat issues at NYU and the rest of the Village are lessening.

A mystery.

by Anonymousreply 212September 5, 2024 11:51 PM

JFK Jr had a special faculty advisor who was in constant contact with both Jackie and the Brown President. Everything was done to make it possible for him to make it through. And it is NOT hard to make it through the Ivy League, except Cornell, which is the Ivy grind school (along with MIT, which is not Ivy but used to participate in the same admissions agreements). Brown for a long time was the easiest ride because "fails" disappear.

by Anonymousreply 213September 5, 2024 11:58 PM

R241 continues to be stupid as hell.

This is how it works in NYS: you receive and accept a job offer before you graduate from law school, with the expectation that you must pass the exam and be admitted to the bar. Then you take the bar exam in July. Then in August or September you start work (but you are not officially a lawyer, yet). In November you find out if you passed the exam—if you did, then subject to the final background check you are sworn in early the next year. If you failed, then most offices or law firms give you one or two more bites at the apple. In the interim you are not officially practicing law—you are a clerk or the equivalent. Rinse and repeat until you are admitted or tossed to the curb.

by Anonymousreply 238September 6, 2024 2:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 248September 6, 2024 4:57 AM

"Barron’s admiration for his father is undeniable. 'He likes the way he talks, the way he is,' says Melania. 'They have beautiful respect and admiration for each other.' "

This isn't the article I was referring to- still looking for it. Thought this was interesting, though. Barron was 9 at the time of this interview.

'He is a mixture of us in looks, but his personality is why I call him Little Donald.

Melania also noted that 'Little Donald' admires his father's career and success. "He likes the way he talks, the way he is," she continued. "They have beautiful respect and admiration for each other."

Barron has also been known to emulate his father's looks and mannerisms."

R30 I think what that poster means is that it doesn’t have a traditional campus but NYU vary much has a campus. It is centered around Washington Square Park. All the buildings around that premier are NYU. It’s also freely walkable and accessible to the public. As far the dorms, some of the traditional style dorms are in the area I just described. And then quite a bit of other dorms are spread throughout Lower Manhattan as far south as Chinatown and Wall Street. But yes NYU very much has a mafuckin campus.

by Anonymousreply 254September 6, 2024 6:46 AM

by Anonymousreply 255September 6, 2024 6:48 AM

It has buildings on public streets. A few of them have courtyards or a plaza in front of them, but most do not. A campus implies a mostly contiguous property containing buildings and open spaces that belongs to the university. It does not have this.

by Anonymousreply 256September 6, 2024 6:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 261September 6, 2024 7:27 AM

I just watched a clip on Youtube and have heard how he was bullied by "liberals", particularly fraus since he was a 10 yo kid, when his father became president. One frau from SNL said he will become mass shooter, Rosie o' Donnel said on a TV show he was autistic. I have also noticed some black fraus bitching about him in comment section. Chelsea Clinton though, defended him to her credit.

When I was younger, we believed that more mature and emotionally developed people choose left or liberal side. Nowadays, it looks like liberal side has been attracting many mentally unstable, narcissistic and vicious characters who are no better than the right wing bigots.

by Anonymousreply 262September 6, 2024 9:17 AM

Cry me a river, r262.

Maybe we should talk about deporting his immigrant mother (Where are her papers?).

by Anonymousreply 263September 6, 2024 9:36 AM

Melania has been married to a U.S. citizen since 2005 and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2006. She couldn't have sponsored her parents through the "chain migration" immigration process (which her husband later repeatedly criticized) otherwise (yes, I do know about corruption). We can make fun of her memoir and her whole "persona" (such as it is), but this is reverse Birtherism, and facts are facts.

When they're not bending the rules for "special cases," NYU undergraduate acceptance rate = 12%.

by Anonymousreply 285September 6, 2024 5:44 PM

That’s why the have Gallatin…

And P.S. what’s their yield in that 12%?

by Anonymousreply 286September 6, 2024 5:47 PM

R285. That’s because they get tens of thousands of applications from kids who have no plans for, or hope of, going there.

by Anonymousreply 287September 6, 2024 5:48 PM

That’s true of all elite schools.

by Anonymousreply 288September 6, 2024 5:49 PM

Ah, thank you, R287. I don't live in the United States, never applied to college there, and didn't know that.

I just read that the Cooper Union in New York, where the $46,000 tuition is covered for the majority of students (and nearly 50% attend tuition-free), has an acceptance rate of 22%.

by Anonymousreply 289September 6, 2024 5:51 PM

[quote]r279 = Maybe it is because I am not trolling

LoL!!!

by Anonymousreply 290September 6, 2024 5:52 PM

R288. Who said NYU was an elite school? Not me. ;)

Certain schools are an outlier in the raw number of applications received. NYU is one.

by Anonymousreply 291September 6, 2024 5:55 PM

R288 right. People say the most idiotic things on this site. NYU is a premier school. Yes it is the selected school for a lot of high achieving white students who couldn’t get into the Ivies but NYU is very much one of the top schools in the country. It’s business and film school are candidate’s first choice as well as it’s communication/media studies program. Many A+ from around the country want to go to NYU just to live in New York and in some circles it seen as cooler than Columbia.

by Anonymousreply 292September 6, 2024 5:56 PM

Which circle of hell is that?

by Anonymousreply 293September 6, 2024 5:58 PM

I’d say a school with a 12% admit rate is elite. I’m not sure where you think you are going with the argument that lots of people apply without any hope of getting in. So what?

by Anonymousreply 294September 6, 2024 5:59 PM

NYU is considered one of the non Ivy elite schools. Yall are bugging. Just like Georgetown, just like Emory, UMD College Park, UVA, Stanford, UCLA, University of Chicago, Vanderbilt and about a dozen other universities.

by Anonymousreply 295September 6, 2024 5:59 PM

That list is whack, like crack!

by Anonymousreply 296September 6, 2024 6:01 PM

R294 He is trying to make the argument that a bunch of basic bitches around the country are applying to NYU and are not even competitive. But with college application fees being as expensive as they are and the college process very meticulous it’s not fucking true.

by Anonymousreply 297September 6, 2024 6:02 PM

It’s called the Common App. Just because you don’t think, doesn’t make it not true.

Do a comparative analysis of raw applications vs. class size vs. yield and get back to us.

by Anonymousreply 298September 6, 2024 6:12 PM

Stanford, MIT and Chicago are on another level from NYU, Georgetown and Vanderbilt.

by Anonymousreply 299September 6, 2024 6:14 PM

R298 Sigh. I’m not going back and forth. I know all about the common app. NYU is a highly selective school and is deemed top tier by any academic, college admission advisor, tenured professor etc. Happy Friday.

by Anonymousreply 300September 6, 2024 6:15 PM

In my day we had to type (yes, type) each application and they were all different.

Get off of my campus!

by Anonymousreply 301September 6, 2024 6:16 PM

NYU was for 15 years or so the single school producing BA students with the highest loan debts. They have improved but are hardly stellar. A commuter school that grew into a fine school but never had the wealth or fineness across the board as the most ivies. Some NYU schools are fantastic, others not so much. It has HALF the endowment of Cornell, by the way. And Cornell does not in-debt its students for the privilege of attending. NYU was greedy greedy greedy for years, ripping off the children of the upper middle class with very little outright grants. It's better now that they simply attract and admit the very rich. I'm fine with that. I'm sure those kids have a blast. Nobody should be taking out extravagant loans to attend NYU undergrad.

by Anonymousreply 302September 6, 2024 6:18 PM

R299 I would agree there are different tiers amongst the non Ivy elites with MIT, Stanford, University of Chicago, and Georgetown being at the top of strata. In that order. And then NYU, UVA, Emory, UMD, UCA, USC, Notre Dame with the order being less important. Then the bottom tier I would say schools like George Washington, Syracuse, Binghamton, USC, University of Arizona, George Mason. Then you schools like Smith and Bates and Bard College which are somewhere in between the Ivies and NYU. They are also so different in size and structure and with Bard so alternative the comparison becomes more challenging.

by Anonymousreply 303September 6, 2024 6:22 PM

Love the NYU grads trying to rationalize their choice by calling it " elite."

by Anonymousreply 304September 6, 2024 6:23 PM

Georgetown is not in the same league with Stanford, Chicago and MIT.

by Anonymousreply 305September 6, 2024 6:24 PM

R304 you must have saw me make that joke on the Cosby Show thread. NYU was never chopped liver but it certainly wasn’t elite in the 80s. It was a solid public research university or the go to for the nerdy little Jewish kid who wanted to be come the next Steven Spielberg. At any rate that was 40 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 306September 6, 2024 6:27 PM

R303 is on crack. Listing u$c twice while omitting the top rated public university anywhere.

.Can I get a bong hit? All you need to know is that NYU accepted Barron…And poor, dear Barron—bless her heart.

by Anonymousreply 307September 6, 2024 6:28 PM

[quote]Barron Trump will not attend the University of Pennsylvania or Georgetown University, which have strong ties to the Trump family. R306 NYU is not a "public research university"

by Anonymousreply 310September 6, 2024 6:29 PM

No public.. NO research! 😎

by Anonymousreply 311September 6, 2024 6:30 PM

The "public" research universities in NY are SUNY Buffalo and Stony Brook, Albany less so, and half of Cornell. Cornell is the "land grant" university of NYS.

by Anonymousreply 312September 6, 2024 6:30 PM

Mommy made the choice for him, because he will be close to her and live with her at home. Daddy would have never chosen as second-tier school for him, as it would have reflected badly on The Donald.

by Anonymousreply 313September 6, 2024 6:30 PM

[quote] And then NYU, UVA, Emory, UMD, UCA, USC, Notre Dame with the order being less important.

There are many schools between the very most elite and the schools you list above—Berkeley, Duke, Michigan. Some in your list are not even third tier. Maryland? There is no school known as UCA unless you refer to the University of Central Arkansas.

You should not be speaking on this subject.

by Anonymousreply 314September 6, 2024 6:30 PM

NYU is not for those who cannot get into good schools. I went there and I got into Georgetown, Trinity(Connecticut) and scholarship to Howard. I wanted to stay in New York however.

by Anonymousreply 315September 6, 2024 6:31 PM

Were you an NYU English major?

by Anonymousreply 316September 6, 2024 6:32 PM

It's possible NYU profs will expect more from Barron, than Penn profs ever would, because Barron's father hasn't bought the admission. Unless he has.

I used to have a front row view on the Middle East gotha buying their diplomas in England. It's happens less so, recently, as there has been a crack down. Maybe these greedy greedy US universities are still in the game. NYU, USC. etc.

by Anonymousreply 317September 6, 2024 6:34 PM

R312 I meant to type private. Freudian slip. Because a lot of the non Ivy elites are public universities. Anyways what is even argument here. Unless one is just trolling or just wants to bash Trump, NYU seen as one of l top schools in the country. Have that shit on your resume; it lands you mafuckin job interviews. By the people who decide these matters which is all that counts in terms of ranking, NYU is considered top. Yes they’re about a dozen other non Ivies considered better than it. There are like 1000 universities in the country. One can get a good education at many places not considered top. An education is a what you make it. Drops mic.

by Anonymousreply 318September 6, 2024 6:35 PM

R315 none of those schools mentioned are better than NYU and all of them are quite middling admits if you are black with good HS grades.

by Anonymousreply 319September 6, 2024 6:35 PM

NYU’s reputation as an undergraduate school has been enhanced by its location and its outstanding professional schools. To a lesser degree by the Tisch School of the Arts.

by Anonymousreply 320September 6, 2024 6:36 PM

R318 the fact is, for people who make finer distinctions, NYU is not considered a top undergraduate degree: You are not among those who make such distinctions, apparently.

by Anonymousreply 321September 6, 2024 6:37 PM

R314 Typo. UCLA. Yea I realize I was going to end up leaving out some schools. There are a lot of fucking colleges in this country. Though living out Duke is kind of criminal lol And I left out the school where the crazy Asian kid killed like 30 of his classmates my freshman year at NYU.

by Anonymousreply 322September 6, 2024 6:37 PM

I’m surprised it took that amount of time. R319 playing the long game there.

by Anonymousreply 323September 6, 2024 6:37 PM

R319 Georgetown is better and more highly selective than NYU. I had to even interview for it.

by Anonymousreply 324September 6, 2024 6:38 PM

by Anonymousreply 327September 6, 2024 6:40 PM

A agree however with the claim that many students who choose NYU REALLY REALLY want to attend that school, so sure they will reject some other fine admission offers.

by Anonymousreply 328September 6, 2024 6:40 PM

It’s a big state.

by Anonymousreply 329September 6, 2024 6:40 PM

Bard is a mess right now with almost 50% admission rate.

by Anonymousreply 330September 6, 2024 6:41 PM

I blame Felicia. Until then it was a lowly commuter school with a very respected Law School.

I’m sure Barron’s attendance will bring them some cachet out in the hinterlands.

by Anonymousreply 331September 6, 2024 6:42 PM

R330 A lot of people don’t know about Bard and thus don’t apply. It’s one of those schools in the elite but only the elite is applying. I mean elite in terms of socioeconomic status. It’s the school where the alternative or trans kids of Hollywood actors go or just cool weirdos. I went to the high school in the city.

by Anonymousreply 332September 6, 2024 6:44 PM

R331 You mean Felicity. I would argue NYU’s reputation had been enhanced slightly before then and thus why it was selected for the show. NYU was not just a commuter school for the most of the 80s and the 90s. You are over simplifying things. It was never Hunter college.

by Anonymousreply 333September 6, 2024 6:46 PM

You mean Bard is a school for rich weirdos. That’s not what one typically means in discussing a school’s elite status.

Yes, “Felicity.”

by Anonymousreply 334September 6, 2024 6:47 PM

And I agree that the trajectory was upward before the show, but that greatly increased its national profile.

by Anonymousreply 335September 6, 2024 6:48 PM

R316 😆 Eff you.

by Anonymousreply 336September 6, 2024 6:54 PM

R338 ok you’re right. But just one last thing. I wonder if Barron will eat at Palladium or Weinstein dining halls. There is Chick Fil A inside Weinstein so I’ll go with that one.

by Anonymousreply 339September 6, 2024 7:04 PM

What is Wesleyan's reputation? I'm not American, but the daughter of a friend of mine applied and was rejected. She was very disappointed, as she'd dreamed of attending there for years. Ended up going to Bard College and getting a good degree. (She was considered "gifted" in elementary school and co-authored a commercially published children's book at 13 or so).

by Anonymousreply 340September 6, 2024 7:31 PM

Meh

by Anonymousreply 341September 6, 2024 7:37 PM

Maryland College Park accepts 45%. Try again.

by Anonymousreply 342September 6, 2024 7:56 PM

Wesleyan is highly selective. One of a group of smaller, undergraduate-focused elite schools like Williams, Amherst and Haverford as well as women’s colleges like Smith and Wellesley . Not as famous as the big universities, but well-respected.

by Anonymousreply 343September 6, 2024 7:57 PM

Back to our main story, PLEASE!

by Anonymousreply 344September 6, 2024 8:01 PM

Wesleyan is a top small private university but it could use a larger endowment, which is only 1.5 billion. Williams and Amherst colleges are even smaller and have double the endowment. Rice is smallish and SWIMMING in money.

by Anonymousreply 345September 6, 2024 8:06 PM

R340 Wesleyan is prestigious. Bard College is an excellent alternative though it isn’t as selective. I went to the high school in the lower east side of Manhattan. Who is the idiot that keeps posting selection percentages as if that is the only criteria. UMD college park is not attracting a national pool of applicants; it is still a good school. The schools with great nationally known sports teams have money and thus are good. UMD is one of the better public state schools.

by Anonymousreply 346September 6, 2024 8:07 PM

Endowment is not the be all to end all. It doesn’t define quality.

by Anonymousreply 347September 6, 2024 8:09 PM

UMD is ranked 19th among public schools, behind even Rutgers.

by Anonymousreply 348September 6, 2024 8:10 PM

I blame Felicia, too R331. It’s all her fault.

by Anonymousreply 349September 6, 2024 8:12 PM

R348 There are over 300 public universities in the country. UMD College Park is solid for any east coast applicant.

by Anonymousreply 350September 6, 2024 8:29 PM

R344 We can’t get back to the main story because a snobbish elder gay shut in keeps trying to refute everyone’s remarks.

by Anonymousreply 351September 6, 2024 8:32 PM

Again, it’s behind Rutgers. I’ll repeat that: Rutgers.

Elite it ain’t.

by Anonymousreply 352September 6, 2024 8:33 PM

Ok maybe it’s not elite because it’s not average. It’s a step up. Rutgers is also very good school. I don’t think some of you elders realize how competitive college has become since the late 90s. These schools may have been average back in the 60s or 70s but they haven’t been since I graduated from high school in 06.

by Anonymousreply 353September 6, 2024 8:34 PM

I worked for NYU in the early 80’s. At that time, admissions standards were relatively low for undergraduates. Since then it has grown quite competitive. Like any other large university, the quality of teaching varied from department to department — then and now. For gaylings who wanted an urban campus, it was heaven on earth—even in the 80s. Side note: a friend who served as a former Dean of Freshmen at Harvard, told me that she would be hesitant to encourage her children to apply. While undergrad Ivy credential may impress some employers, it isn’t the golden ticket of days past.

by Anonymousreply 354September 6, 2024 8:36 PM

And according to Forbes ranking College Park is 13th, which I know US world news is the standard. It is ranked 46th amongst all universities. It is considered a good school.

by Anonymousreply 355September 6, 2024 8:37 PM

Good grief, Charlie Brown! This isn't a thread on US colleges and universities!

We don't know Barron's academic record. We don't know his standardized test scores. We don't know why he chose not to attend where his relatives had attended. What we know is where he's matriculating and in what he'll be majoring (Business, surprise, surprise).

And if he doesn't see his father's flaws, well, that's that. Maybe Barron wants to fit in his own family.

by Anonymousreply 356September 6, 2024 8:47 PM

[quote]but it could use a larger endowment

So could I.

by Anonymousreply 357September 6, 2024 8:50 PM

by Anonymousreply 359September 6, 2024 8:52 PM

Threads meander. Get over it.

by Anonymousreply 360September 6, 2024 9:10 PM

NYU has a 12% acceptance rate? LOL. Ok, it has some good departments. But it's a safety school filled with useless rich kids who want to hang out in Manhattan for college. Everyone knows this.

by Anonymousreply 361September 6, 2024 9:15 PM

[quote]But just one last thing. I wonder if Barron will eat at Palladium or Weinstein dining halls. There is Chick Fil A inside Weinstein so I’ll go with that one.

Barton and his SS agents will be dropped off and whisked away after class to go home to mommy. Doubt if he will see the inside of a dining hall.

by Anonymousreply 362September 6, 2024 9:19 PM

When Brown was the It school it had the lowest acceptance rates for a year or two. It doesn't mean it was the best college. It means it got a shit ton of applications because it was super hype. NYU surely is very selective because it is hype but you know, Not Our Kind of people. NOK.

by Anonymousreply 363September 6, 2024 9:26 PM

Anyone who would characterize NYU as a mere safety school is an idiot. Every school is some other schools safety school with the exception of Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Stanford, and MIT. Columbia and UPenn are the safety schools for the other Ivies. UVA and Chapel Hill are safety schools for Georgetown and Duke. Just because you personally do not like NYU or its graduates does not mean you need to make up lies. And no NYU isn’t top 10 top universities in the country.

by Anonymousreply 364September 6, 2024 9:30 PM

Harvard isn't what it used to be after that tacky plagiarist president imploded it.

by Anonymousreply 365September 6, 2024 9:36 PM

I think we should understand the DNA here. Neither Trump nor Melania were successful in higher education. They're not intellectual, don't read. Trump paid others to take tests for him and Melontits dropped out. So it's not likely he was even interested in attending college.

by Anonymousreply 366September 6, 2024 9:40 PM

What is with all these posters reverently citing admission percentages and the "rankings" of US News etc.? Suffice it to say that NYU is much better than poor Barron could have gotten into without his father's money and connections, and that he's only going there because his mommy will be living in midtown. He'll probably live there with her too.

Comparing colleges is a crude business with a lot of variables and apples/oranges situations. Notoriously, Chicago's ranking shot up when Bob Zimmer directed the admissions office to flood the zone with advertising: suddenly they were getting a ton more applications, most of which were tossable, and their admission percentage plummeted, highly impressing the rankings-makers.

Barron was the one who pushed the campaign onto bro-social podcasts culminating in Rogan. And it was these voters migrating over to Trump that delivered the swing states. A curious reporter would look into whether Barron is the one Trump child with talent.

R406 Except I haven't seen a shred of proof that's true.

Trump got about the same number of votes he got in 2020. Pretty much the same people who voted for him in 20, did so in 24.

The Dems got considerably less.

R406 He's clearly the one with the most sense, if nothing else in that he knows how to stay quiet.
