She let AD in for a tour.

I really like it.

by Anonymousreply 1September 3, 2024 3:33 PM

Yale isn't free. I guess daddy Ben is paying for that.

by Anonymousreply 2September 3, 2024 3:37 PM

I love it too...love the warm wood accents, the furnishings, everything. The low ceilings are perhaps the only criticism but it adds to the coziness too. Will be interesting to see if she sells, I think she's been at this property for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 3September 3, 2024 3:38 PM

You live with the choices you make. I bet she uses that phrase a lot. I like the house. I'd add some more bright colors tho

by Anonymousreply 4September 3, 2024 3:39 PM

Though it's not for me, I don't dislike the house or have anything especially negative to say (a compliment, and more so for a celebrity house in Southern California.) There are some nice aspects and details. And some bonus points for something different than the usual white on white on white Michael Taylor sort of look.

The kitchen is pleasant if maybe too big. If I had a complaint (which may be one of filming requirements or a quirk of the time of day) it's that the large low rooms get very big before there's a window at the end, and large as those windows are the light doesn't penetrate too deep.

Garner always seemed nervous and insipid, with a bit of anger/suspicion just beneath the surface, bit she comes off okay in this. Not too very twee, and good for her she actually had design ideas of her. Dark, moody, personal, rooms that serve double duty, not too spare not too cluttered, harmonious -- it fares pretty well for a Hollywood celebrity house without being showy. Not my thing, but I have to say it's a pleasant surprise.

The grey water orchard is amazing! If I were loaded I’d do the same thing. Having fresh produce available in your backyard sounds like a dream.

The home decor itself is not necessarily my taste but it’s insanely peaceful and relaxing. I can’t imagine ever feeling stressed in a home like that. Everything is just too cozy.

by Anonymousreply 6September 3, 2024 7:24 PM

It’s like if Miss Honey lived in a mansion. It feels warm and comfortable compared to other celeb houses. Lucky kids to grow up there.

by Anonymousreply 7September 3, 2024 7:25 PM

Damn I missed the orchard. Am I Jennifer Garner fan?

by Anonymousreply 8September 3, 2024 7:30 PM

She’s impossible to dislike. Notice she keeps saying “I’m very lucky,” “I’m filled with gratitude,” etc. Phrases that are conspicuously absent in other celeb house hours.

Ben is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 10September 3, 2024 7:35 PM

It’s hard to believe the same person could fall for her, and Jennifer Lopez.

by Anonymousreply 11September 3, 2024 7:39 PM

Her home is warm and inviting. Says a lot about her.

by Anonymousreply 12September 3, 2024 9:38 PM

[quote] She’s impossible to dislike.

I can't stand her.

by Anonymousreply 13September 3, 2024 9:43 PM

In which room was ex-husband Ben's favorite to pass out shit faced?

by Anonymousreply 14September 3, 2024 10:15 PM

I like it a lot - and her

by Anonymousreply 15September 3, 2024 10:16 PM

R14 Ben and Jen G. split in 2018. I get the impression this house is newer than that. May be pristine from Ben's drunken pass-outs.

by Anonymousreply 16September 3, 2024 10:40 PM

R13 = Michael Vartan.

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2024 10:48 PM

I think it's almost perfection. It still needs a fabulous screening room.

by Anonymousreply 18September 3, 2024 10:49 PM

So, I spent money on Elektra, 13 Going On 30, and Catch Me If You Can.

She did very well with my pennies. Love the lower ceilings. The decor is very Restoration Hardware.

by Anonymousreply 19September 3, 2024 10:49 PM

[quote] Garner always seemed nervous and insipid, with a bit of anger/suspicion just beneath the surface

Considering her narcissistic, flat-assed, drunk ex-husband was sending love letters to his fat-assed, narcissistic, talentless, cunt ex-fiancée throughout their marriage while she raised the kids, who could blame her?

by Anonymousreply 20September 3, 2024 10:52 PM

She said that she likes to leave the doors to the outside wide open. I didn't notice any sliding screen doors, doesn't California have insects?

by Anonymousreply 21September 3, 2024 11:02 PM

r21 not like back East, but that seems to be changing.

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2024 11:06 PM

Chairs, chairs and more bloody chairs!!

by Anonymousreply 23September 3, 2024 11:08 PM

I watched some of the video, really don't have a great interest in these videos, but I did enjoy how she casually named dropped throughout. Not in affected manner, but because it just is that Voctor Graber's husband paints and painted for her and painted Jennifer and Victor into a canvas... oh yea, she's just a country girl frmo a farm and can rattle off how the garden/farm works, because she comes from W VA. Again, not an affectation.

Good for her, but man, I hope she finds a therapist who teaches her how to no longer be a doormat for a man. God, what kind of a rloe model is she for the daughters?

by Anonymousreply 24September 3, 2024 11:30 PM

She's a Christian girl. They tend to be man doormats.

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2024 11:52 PM

I like the low ceilings; it does give it a coziness. I hate the big white marble, open space Kardashian-inspired monstrosities. It's beautiful , tasteful and very well done...but like houses with a bit of quirk to them: some weird wallpaper, unique furniture, that kind of thing. My favorite AD videos were Dakota Johnson, Bryce Howard and strangely enough...Lily Allen. Just because the homes had an unconventional aspect, but they clearly loved their homes - it wasn't just something some designer pushed on them. Mostly I like the house, but it does seem a bit monochromatic

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2024 11:55 PM

Does this Jen have a boyfriend yet?

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2024 11:58 PM

My favorite was Cara Delvigne but sadly the place burnt down

by Anonymousreply 28September 4, 2024 2:09 AM

She seems almost painfully earnest and rather childlike in the video but she likes owls, so that's in her favor.

by Anonymousreply 29September 5, 2024 12:55 AM

She's had a boyfriend for a few years at least.

I read the article in the Daily Fail and she said she built this place after her divorce after looking around and feeling that everything was too big/sumptuous and didn't fit her style and personality.

So this place is Ben-clear.

by Anonymousreply 30September 5, 2024 7:24 AM

She doesn't utter "going to" once. gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna gunna

by Anonymousreply 31September 5, 2024 8:42 AM

I also prefer this home to the huge ceiling, all white and beige, marble floor homes it seems the rest of Hollywood now have. Garner's home looks comfortable and colorful without looking like a giant salvage store.

by Anonymousreply 32September 5, 2024 9:33 AM

Lovely. Both the house, and her.

by Anonymousreply 33September 5, 2024 9:43 AM

I watched that movie Peppermint with her - I loved it, even though it was clunky at times.

by Anonymousreply 34September 5, 2024 9:47 AM

Its pleasant enough but a bit bland and characterless. A lot of browns and greys etc. As R26 says, its nice enough but there's nothing quirky about it. It doesnt inspire me to want to steal ideas from it which is the mark of a really amazing home to me

by Anonymousreply 35September 5, 2024 9:54 AM

I agree with R35. The house looks like a Pottery Barn catalogue, with darker background colors to add "character" and a few stained glass windows to make everything look slightly less impersonal. It's all very middle class conformism meets country living, but it does have a pleasant atmosphere.

The kitchen is oversized and impractical, and I strongly doubt that Jennifer Garner has ever done more in it than tell her cook what she wants the day's menu to be. I cannot help to laugh at "the library", where there are only two shelves with artistically arranged books and most of the space is taken by the sofa and TV screen, not to mention that the room is too dark to read anything without the lights on. Yes, I am sure that her children and her do a lot of reading in that room. 🙄 Everything else is very nice in a bland, square middle class manner.

By the way, I cannot stand Jennifer's "little princess wearing casual attire in the countryside" affectations. Her sugary, "I'm so awesome but humble about it" demeanor and child-like enthusiasm, come across as rather rehearsed and deliberate, as if she were trying to convince us that she is just this little church-going ingenue who lives in a modern fairy tale.

by Anonymousreply 36September 5, 2024 11:27 AM

[quote] She seems almost painfully earnest and rather childlike

It's her voice. Ugh.

by Anonymousreply 37September 5, 2024 4:05 PM

It's pretty cozy - and I agree that it's a pivot away from some of the celebrity homes.

The lighting in this video is crap though - I understand they shot on one of the few overcast days in SoCal, but it just was waaaay too dark.

The home doesn't have much art on the walls - a LOT of bare walls, which I hate personally. Feels unfinished and impersonal. Those photos she has in her dining room are not good.

I'm impressed with the graywater garden - unexpected and it goes well with the house. It's fine - though a bit boring and dark. Stained glass is...just not for me. It feels so period.

by Anonymousreply 38September 5, 2024 4:20 PM

Finally skimmed through this. Boring, esp. the bathroom (all blinding white). I'm not against stained glass, but don't like what what she has. The baby talk isn't extreme, but it's not something I want to listen to.

by Anonymousreply 39September 5, 2024 10:25 PM

I have a theory about the voice...to me, it always sounds like she is very carefully picking out her words and enunciating in a certain way.

She grew up in West VA; perhaps she had a white trashy type accent, and went to a voice coach to change her accent.

Just my theory.

by Anonymousreply 40September 5, 2024 11:06 PM

Here's what a female West VA accent sounds like.

I heard at least 1 "gunna" in there.

by Anonymousreply 41September 5, 2024 11:14 PM

Oh, found this! She lapses into her accent at times, and also admits that if she's had a glass of wine or has been in the company of a West Virginian, she lapses into her accent.

So I think we've solved the mystery of her annoying voice: it's kind of a put-on.

Cold and Icky…

by Anonymousreply 43September 5, 2024 11:41 PM

Aw, that was very sweet, R42.

by Anonymousreply 44September 6, 2024 12:06 AM

I love the house and how she designed/decorated it. She seems to be a thoughtful person who really loves her kids -- a family of readers. Nice. I can't imagine J Lo taking the time to learn about or set up a greenhouse Ben Affleck was lucky to have been married to Garner.
