Elle MacPherson says she fought cancer "holistically".

Coke-fuelled rageaholic claims to have refused chemo, mastectomy, etc.

Not selling enough supplements, Elle?

She saw 32 doctors and refused their advice?

Entitled cunt wasting their time.

[quote] Intraductal carcinoma, also known as ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), is a pre-cancerous breast condition where abnormal cells are found in the lining of a milk duct. DCIS is considered a precursor to invasive breast cancer, but it's not always invasive

This is what AI says about the type of cancer she had. So she had a lumpectomy and then decided to roll the dice. I can understand that choice. But it’s hard to respect that choice when it’s followed by the claim that it was eight months of even more navel gazing self indulgence following the lumpectomy that saved her.

She comes off as remarkably unlikeable and very dumb.

by Anonymousreply 8September 3, 2024 11:59 AM

Since when is she a rage fueled coke-aholic?

by Anonymousreply 9September 3, 2024 12:03 PM

You haven't heard the stories from hundreds of airline stewards, r9?

Now, of course, she's a sanctimonious cow:

'Everybody has their own journey and I'm not interested in telling other people what to do but I know that this was a decision that I've never regretted,' she said.

'Although it required discipline and persistence the bottom line is you can't be well and present in your life if you're not present and well, and alcohol doesn't really support that.'

by Anonymousreply 12September 3, 2024 12:27 PM

This is what the Mayo Clinic says about DCIS:

"In most people, treatment options for DCIS include:

Breast-conserving surgery, called a lumpectomy, and radiation therapy. Breast-removing surgery, called a mastectomy.

In some people, treatment options may include:

Lumpectomy only. Lumpectomy and hormone therapy."

Chemotherapy is not mentioned. So where did she find 32 doctors (who goes to 32 doctors?) who told her she needed chemo?

DCIS is one of those cancers, like prosate, that doctors will tell you used to be over-treated. They are now quite conservative with it. You can have a mastectomy if you really want, but they mostly recommend a lumpectomy. The use of radiation is probably a "just to be sure" measure, so you could be stupid and refuse it and still have a fair chance of getting away with it.

These holistic types really get up my nose. They KNOW they're talking BS.

by Anonymousreply 13September 3, 2024 2:02 PM

Well, using "holistic" treatments against cancer certainly worked for Suzanne Sommers....

Fuck this bitch.

Oh - and she always had a banging body but her face wasn't anything to write home about. The least interesting look of all the supermodels.

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2024 3:53 PM

[quote]Elle headed to Phoenix, Arizona, for eight months where she "holistically treated" the condition while following guidance from her own doctor, naturopathy, holistic dentist, osteopath, chiropractor and two therapists.

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2024 5:33 PM

She’s an alcoholic in recovery and she has the same personality type as soooo many in recovery. Including RFK Jr who has this personality type. She got over the booze / cocaine / heroin and she now thinks she is the world’s health expert and nothing impure can enter her body. A lot of addicts have this extreme black-and-white thinking. There’s a lady in my AA group who believes she is curing herself of cancer by walking miles a day and eating a specialized diet (and praying of course). People do this all the time. Some people are too fragile mentally to interface with the healthcare system and they overthink it and can’t trust anyone (hence, Elle seeing 30 doctors). It happens a lot. They either get lucky and have a super slow growing cancer like the lady in AA group or they die .

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2024 5:46 PM

This happened with my mother. She chose a mastectomy and by doing that didn't need to go through the stress of radiation and worry. It was caught in her annual mammogram in her 70s. She's now in her 80s. Elle isn't that young or that old but hormones can make the cancer grow. My mom stopped all her hormone therapy with the diagnosis so I don't know what this moron is bragging about.

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2024 5:47 PM

Interesting that the article at r24 didn't mention her marriage to Gilles Bensimon who frequently featured her in US Elle magazine during the 80s.

I feel like these celeb women choose holistic treatments because they don’t want their breast(s) chopped off which will make them somehow less than perfect or desirable to others. Pure vanity and ego.

by Anonymousreply 31September 4, 2024 3:24 AM

Jolie had her breasts taken off, reconstructed and then showed them off in the movie with Pitt. Quite the PR move.

They sit too high for that size. Together with all the work on her face, she's been under the knife a as much as a Kardashian.

At least she probably won't get breast cancer, though.

She looks a bit robotic in the silver dress. The structure of the gown really creates curves she doesn't always have. A lot of the gowns she wore when with Pitt did not suit her frame.

R48 I would go that for with it. But if I have fucking cancer Imma do with them doctors say is best.

by Anonymousreply 49September 4, 2024 10:27 AM

How fucked up are her sons? If she was really drinking herself into unconsciousness every night, then waking and purging (THREE TIMES, bitches!) before going to bed, what the hell kind of mother was she?

Now if she dies from cancer, the younger one who called chemo the kiss of death will suffer guilt, and the "more convertional" older one will feel like shit for not getting her to listen to him.

She's fucking nuts. All to be in the news again and sell a shitty book along with supplements that cost more because she owns the company.

by Anonymousreply 50September 4, 2024 10:31 AM

Suzanne Somersault lived for quite a long time, after her cancer diagnosis, though. Decades, actually.

I hate it when celebrities publicize alternative treatments to potentially terminal conditions. There's a wide swath of people that listen to their advice and take it without considering the efficacy of the treatment and how medically sound it is. This seems to go hand in hand with our polarized political environment now, people on the far ends of the spectrum are the ones most likely to heed the alternative health advice no matter how insane. YouTube is awash with gurus now pushing this . Good medical consumers thoroughly research treatment outcomes and side effects. They also understand peer-reviewed research and can interpret statistics.

by Anonymousreply 55September 4, 2024 12:46 PM

[quote]There's a wide swath of people that listen to their advice and take it without considering the efficacy of the treatment and how medically sound it is.

Yeah, this is really irresponsible. It's not just herself she's hurting.

by Anonymousreply 56September 4, 2024 12:54 PM

People who would take medical advice from Elle are people we need to be rid of, so this is working out very well for us.

by Anonymousreply 57September 4, 2024 3:31 PM

They shouldn’t advertise their alternative remedies.

Did ONJ use those? She lived a very long time after her diagnosis. Same for Suzanne S who lived pretty much as long as you can having cancer. It was almost 3 decades.

by Anonymousreply 58September 4, 2024 10:29 PM

I can remember SS talking about taking something made from mistletoe decades ago. I think the types of treatments she used were legion.

I wouldn't wish chemo on anyone, but I am very grateful that certain loved ones have/are used/using it. They're not ready to go, and are much-loved.

by Anonymousreply 59September 5, 2024 8:47 AM

Mistletoe seems to be a popular remedy among these kooks.

by Anonymousreply 65September 6, 2024 10:43 AM

My God, she looks like a 62-year-old Ralph Macchio! What’s her secret?

by Anonymousreply 66September 6, 2024 11:24 AM

I had a friend pursue natural “treatments” including an alkaline diet, and she died 5 years after diagnosis. Another friend and former coworker is a little past 5 years on her natural “treatments” and you can tell she’s not doing well at all. I hate to say I’ll be surprised if she’s still alive in a couple years, but I think the inevitable outcome is that she won’t be. Both breast cancer.

by Anonymousreply 67September 6, 2024 11:44 AM

Why is breast cancer so common? Birth control pills?

by Anonymousreply 68September 6, 2024 1:04 PM

Dr Norman Swann on the ABC (Australia) this morning commented on this. He said approximately 30% of DCIS never progresses to cancer. If MacPherson had the luck to be in that group, then nothing she did either way is likely to have influenced the outcome.

However, he noted that that means 70% of DCIS WILL progress in time, so you're a bloody idiot (my words, his meaning) if you don't attempt to combat it.

by Anonymousreply 69September 7, 2024 4:17 AM

Lumpectomy is the usual treatment for DCIS, which is what she did anyway. She’s trying to act like she eschewed all medical treatment, which is not even true.

by Anonymousreply 70September 7, 2024 8:57 AM

Does she still smoke? If not, when did she give that up? She was smoking even when at school.

by Anonymousreply 71September 7, 2024 9:56 AM

She gave up the smokes by 40.

Given all her sun exposure, the hard partying, heavy cocaine and alcohol use, she's lucky she only had stage 0 breast cancer.

In the late 80s/early 90s, she was famously "best friends" (FWB) with Michael Hutchence and unsuccessfully tried to seduce Kylie into a threesome with him. That got Kylie dumped for Helena.

The stupid cow burnt an Alaia original.

An Observer columnist's weekend rant about MacPherson includes the following :

[quote]Any day nobody remembers that you once talked about consuming the powdered horn of a species being hunted to extinction is a good day for a vegan health guru: in the week you want your health insights taken seriously pending the publication of a new memoir, it’s practically priceless.

[quote]Enterprises such as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, a Kardashian’s Poosh and WelleCo can at least argue that proselytising drivel about self love and the ingestion of apparently unproven supplements is their line of work. An occasional controversy, like vaginal steaming, does little to shake consumer confidence in the world of “clinically studied” (apparently not proven) ingredients, where it’s normal to defer to a “medical medium” (Goop) or to remark (like Macpherson), “I also really look after my mitochondria”.
