The movie was terrible though so it may hurt her chances. She also seemed a bit drag queenie .
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 1, 2024 10:33 AM |
Oh, yeah. It was AWFUL. I was being sarcastic, but she nailed the role. It was a sight.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 1, 2024 10:38 AM |
I turned the role down. Glennie needed the work, and my mantle couldn't fit another Oscar.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 1, 2024 12:21 PM |
Lucy was offered the role but Gary talked her out of it.

That pussy line will prove a bridge too far for most Academy voters.

R6 - Hedda Hopper

Why not just cast someone age-appropriate?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 1, 2024 12:45 PM |
Given her body of work, an Oscar for this shit would be insulting.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 1, 2024 12:46 PM |
Will her acceptance speech conclude with more ass twerking?

I’m taking pre-orders for my new Nappy Pussy candle. This is one candle that will not be ignored! Your guests will delight in catching a whiff of your Nappy Pussy. My Nappy Pussy will be coming this fall!

In the OP pic, she looks more like a middle-aged Bette Midler than a drag queen. Unless those are essentially the same.

This is why they hate us, by proxy.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 1, 2024 1:22 PM |
My first Oscar was also a Supporting! I think. Who can remember that far back?

R14 Meryl was so overcome when she won for Kramer she left the Oscar olin the ladies room at the venue
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 1, 2024 1:31 PM |
Meryl should have won 5 Oscars, in addition to Kramer Vs Kramer & Sophie's Choice, she was also the best of the 5 nominees when nominated for Evil Angels, Bridges of Madison County and Adaptation.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 1, 2024 1:33 PM |
Evil Angels? I have no memory of that nomination. I don’t even remember the film. Too many to keep track, I guess.

R17 AKA A Cry In The Dark, with the dingo.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 1, 2024 1:44 PM |
The Iron Lady wasn't a good movie but Meryl was outstanding as Maggie Thatcher. She deserved her win for overcoming a weak screenplay and inept director.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 1, 2024 1:48 PM |
M was amazing in Out of Africa, probably my favorite performance of hers, but Whoopi nailed it too and probably should’ve won for that, not Ghost.
Back to G.

Glenn might not have an Oscar but she's had a more success than 99.9% of anyone who goes into acting.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 1, 2024 1:53 PM |
Yes, R19! Couldn’t agree more.
That flick was weird. Why would the camera be off Thatcher when she says “Sink it!” It was one of the biggest moments of That her’s career, declaring war in the Falklands. A powerful moment. But the camera pans away and we only hear her say it. A very weird directorial choice — the wrong one. Just an example of how weird/bad the movie is.
But Streep is ASTOUNDING.

Glenn should have won back-to-back for 'Fatal Attraction' and 'Dangerous Liaisons', period! She was robbed by Cher and Jodie Foster. A witch with the initials "M.S." put a curse on her.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 1, 2024 1:58 PM |
Another example of shitty movie that Meryl elevates to the heavens: Bridges of Madison County. She’s at the top of her game.
They gave it to the cunt, that year. Sarandon.

That’s the spirit, r21!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 1, 2024 1:58 PM |
In that photo she looks like she’s starring in a Bette Midler biopic.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 1, 2024 1:59 PM |
R23, I think Dangerous Liaisons is her best work on film. But the politics of Jodie’s win were unstoppable. Unfortunately. I think Close is better than Foster, but the Academy so seldomly gets it right. I think Sigourney gave a better performance than Foster.

OMG, R26 wins the entire thread.

First you're another sloe-eyed vamp...
Then someone's mother...
Then you're camp!
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 1, 2024 2:17 PM |
If I had an Oscar pedestal for every time someone declared that Glenn was going to win . . .
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 1, 2024 2:28 PM |
R22 I'd love to watch a movie with you!
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 1, 2024 2:32 PM |
This catfish got too much garlic.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 1, 2024 2:44 PM |
R29, you’re late.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 1, 2024 2:52 PM |
R28 meet R12

I look forward to the continued daily "new" threads about this film and Glenn Close. DL is up to 5 I think so far.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 1, 2024 5:04 PM |
I have 2. Can you believe THAT shit?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 1, 2024 5:33 PM |
R35 = Annette Bening
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 1, 2024 5:34 PM |
R36 I fucking HATE Emma Stone for that. Irrational, I know but I can't even watch her movies now. Not that I did before.
