Meghan Markle has ‘regrets’ about royal exit, her comments have ‘backfired’: expert

Meghan Markle is regretful over the way her dramatic exit from the royal family went down four years ago, according to a prominent royal expert.

The Duchess of Sussex sensationally shut the door on royal life in 2020 with her husband, Prince Harry, with the pair’s overseas move prompting a major ongoing rift.

“Meghan does regret certain statements that she made,” royal expert and commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News. “They weren’t received in the way that she had expected and several of her comments have backfired.”

“She and Prince Harry deeply regret the royal racist controversy. Meghan wanted the takeaway from their Oprah interview to be about her mental health.”

“And I think Meghan regretted sitting down with the Cut because she provided endless commentary for her critics,” she added.

During her interview with Oprah, Markle and Harry said royals had raised concerns over the darkness of baby Archie’s skin.

These days, the “Suits” alum, 43, resides in a plush $14 million mansion in Montecito, Calif., with Harry and their two kids.

In addition, she’s building an impressive business portfolio that already boasts around 10 brands she’s invested in.

Most recently, the former actress told the New York Times that she’s invested in Cesta Collective — a female-founded handbag brand.

The investment goes in tandem with Markle’s own business venture, a lifestyle brand named American Riviera Orchard that she reportedly hopes to release later this year.

“I would describe Meghan’s personal life in California as isolated but structured,” Schofield told the outlet. “The qualifications to be her friend are no secret … she typically gravitates towards people that can offer her something, contribute to her personal goals.”

She also requires trust and privacy. Her friends group is small. She is friendly with Montecito locals as you never know someone’s connection or status. Everyone in Montecito has accomplished something significant to be in a position to call it home,” she continued.

Still, Schofield alleges that while the mom of two may appear as though she’s buried the hatchet, the reality is different.

“Sightings of the couple are rare and advances towards establishing [connections] with the Sussexes are mostly rejected,” Schofield claimed.

It is important to Meghan that it appears she has moved on, and the drama is beneath her. But that is not the reality.”

“There is still a resentment that fuels a lot of the work she has done over the last three and a half years,” she added.

Elsewhere, Schofield said she doesn’t expect Markle to be returning to Harry’s home soil anytime soon — despite Harry making a surprise appearance at his uncle’s funeral there this week.

“Harry and Meghan returning to the UK without meeting with the royals or acknowledging them just reminds the world of their estrangement,” she explained.

“It attracts hostile headlines. I think there is a desire to win back that audience [in the UK], but Harry recently said himself that he doesn’t feel safe enough bringing his wife back to his home country.”

“If American Riviera Orchard becomes a well-oiled machine and keeps Meghan busy, she will find joy in that work,” she added.

- so she can exploit them for PR/$?

To put it simply: she's a user.

You'd think they'd be grateful for any friends at all in Montecito.

Interest in them is fading, I think, so she really needs something to keep up the drama. I just don’t see another Lifestyle brand doing that for her.

R5 Interest is fading because their initial post-royal life was based on sensationalism (The Oprah interview, Spare, Netflix). The problem is that sensationalism never lasts long-term and they seem to have nothing else to offer. They are unwilling, or are incapable, of doing anything worthwhile other than trying to be faux royals. And this is only compounded by the reality that people have seen through the act straight to their glaring hypocrisies. I honestly think that if Catherine were not out of limelight, we wouldn't be hearing about them half as much as we are. For the media, they are filling a gap in royal stories.

Meghan believes people should admire her but the question is for what? She's a two-bit cable actress who bagged a prince. And despite her claims, she is not a humanitarian, she is not a philanthropist, she is not a feminist, she is not a style icon, she is not an ingenue, she is not Diana 2.0. She pulled off 72 royal engagements before she bailed. The only thing she seems to be accomplished at is indulging her own ego.

All these stories about trying to bury the hatchet with the royals are nothing more than an acknowledgement that they are running out of money and desperate to remain relevant. The writing is on the wall that the Netflix deal will expire without being renewed. Meghan's podcast relaunch seems to be in limbo, these faux royal tours will eventually dry up given all the negative headlines they seem to generate both for the Sussexes and the officials who host them. I think they must know that any hope of reestablishing some form of connection with the royals (and I doubt it would be anything more than behind the scenes visits) will only last while King Charles is still alive. William loathes them both. All evidence points to William likely being King within the next decade. Friends of William have openly stated as things stand now, the last formal event Harry will ever be invited to is his father's funeral.

I don't like to think of Charles dying, but when he goes Dimbo will attend his funeral, blab about it in interviews, then get a gig as a commentator for William's coronation as he moans about not being invited.

William will be King sooner rather than later.
