Harris/Walz CNN interview watch party

CNN dropped this little teaser from tonight's interview with D-Bash. Harris says she'll be choosing a Republican as a cabinet member. Obviously Kinzinger, right?

Does anyone know if the full interview will be streamed on the 'live' section of CNN's YouTube?

It is beneath the dignity of Vice-President Harris and Governor Walz to be interviewed by corpse media.

by Anonymousreply 1August 29, 2024 10:49 PM

Will Gwen and Gus make an appearance?

by Anonymousreply 2August 29, 2024 10:51 PM

This is Savannah, Georgia.

The first time a general election presidential candidate has campaigned here since the 1990s.

Folks are ready for ⁦@KamalaHarris ⁩.

Kinzinger and Buttigieg in the Harris Cabinet. That could be an inspiration for some fanfic.

by Anonymousreply 6August 29, 2024 10:58 PM

She could give Kinzinger Transportation Secretary and move Pete up the ladder. Obama had Ray LaHood, a Republican, in that position so it's not unprecedented.

Maybe we'll get to see hunky Adam in bike shorts promoting new bike trails! Hubba Hubba! 😍

by Anonymousreply 11August 29, 2024 11:06 PM

I get why it HAD to be CNN, but God do I hate that it's CNN.

by Anonymousreply 12August 29, 2024 11:21 PM

Will C-SPAN be streaming the interview--you know, since it's the VP?

by Anonymousreply 13August 29, 2024 11:23 PM

I hate-watch Fox News for occasional giggles. Today they featured a 59 year old ex-cop living on a taxpayer-funded pension moaning about having to go back to work to live. He said his wife is a retired teacher (another taxpayer-funded pension) who now has to work as a tutor. He whined about how his son and daughter-in-law have FOUR children who need to be babysat by their grandmother because they both have full-time jobs.

This is Trump's MAGA base -- people who are truly unfamiliar with what it means to struggle, who believe they deserve to be handed prosperity on a f*cking platter. That dude retired before 59 when most people of his generation will have to work until about 68. Unbelievable!

by Anonymousreply 14August 29, 2024 11:43 PM

R7, Adam is ex-Air Force, so he is likely suited for something military-related. Although Pete was also in the military and he's at Transportation.

by Anonymousreply 15August 29, 2024 11:44 PM

What time does it air?

by Anonymousreply 19August 30, 2024 12:16 AM

Alyssa Farah Griffin is sitting on a panel for CNN now, pre- Harris interview. She knows her shit. She's smart, she gives her opinion, and engages with others who are opposite her rather well. She's gotten more screen time tonight for the hour, than she has ever gotten in an hour on 'The View'.

by Anonymousreply 20August 30, 2024 12:26 AM

Real Clear Politics updated its polling data to reflect Harris having 270 electoral votes. PA is polling in her column and puts her over the top. RCP uses many right-leaning polls that other pollsters reject.

by Anonymousreply 34August 30, 2024 1:07 AM

Kamala must be EXHAUSTED. Can you even imagine?

by Anonymousreply 35August 30, 2024 1:08 AM

Yeah -- she looks tired.

by Anonymousreply 36August 30, 2024 1:08 AM

I hope Dana pushes her more on the price gouging policy so she can explain it's not "price fixing".

by Anonymousreply 37August 30, 2024 1:09 AM

She's doing very well!

by Anonymousreply 38August 30, 2024 1:09 AM

Here’s this network’s typical MO: they just first aired a snippet of Trump’s today’s live onstage event today highlighting how Kamala and Tim are taped tonight and not live as he was—I think a kind of valid point. —The reaction? All their responding panelists went instead with the narrative of “women leaders get attacked” and their (justifiably noted, I agree…) higher bar expectations. But what’s that got do with the question about why these two couldn’t have interviewed live on-the-spot this evening?? [Crickets…]

by Anonymousreply 39August 30, 2024 1:10 AM

The lighting is terrible. Suddenly she has no neck. And she should be seated as tall as Walz. The quivering voice is not good.

by Anonymousreply 40August 30, 2024 1:10 AM

She does look tired, it's in her face. As stated the lighting here is doing her no favors. Still striking though.

by Anonymousreply 41August 30, 2024 1:10 AM

It's so refreshing to hear a presidential candidate who sounds like an ADULT.

by Anonymousreply 42August 30, 2024 1:10 AM

WHAT A STUPID QUESTION!

"You've been VP for 3 1/2 years, why haven't you done..."

She's not the president, dumb ass! She helps execute the Biden agenda

by Anonymousreply 43August 30, 2024 1:10 AM

My screen says LIVE.

by Anonymousreply 44August 30, 2024 1:11 AM

Jeez Walz is such a big guy, they'd have to seat him in a kiddie seat, and give Harris a booster, to get them even. Not sure if that would be a worse visual.

by Anonymousreply 45August 30, 2024 1:11 AM

Shhh....THE ADULTS ARE TALKING

by Anonymousreply 46August 30, 2024 1:11 AM

If it isn't then CNN should remove that word.

by Anonymousreply 47August 30, 2024 1:11 AM

Why do stupid Dems continue to hire Repubs to be in their cabinets? And when will they learn something from the opposition? Do they think it'll ingratiate them with Republican voters?

by Anonymousreply 48August 30, 2024 1:12 AM

r44 CNN is broadcasting live but the interview is pre-taped.

by Anonymousreply 49August 30, 2024 1:12 AM

by Anonymousreply 50August 30, 2024 1:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 51August 30, 2024 1:15 AM

She really does, R50, omg

by Anonymousreply 52August 30, 2024 1:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 53August 30, 2024 1:15 AM

I think Kamala actually appears nicely St. Tropez-bronzed and tanned this evening. 🌞 😎 🌴

by Anonymousreply 54August 30, 2024 1:16 AM

It almost looks like forced perspective with Walz being Gandalf to Kamala’s Frodo.

by Anonymousreply 55August 30, 2024 1:16 AM

This is good stuff -- she's been getting a lot of shit about flip-flopping and she is addressing it head on like a sane adult

by Anonymousreply 56August 30, 2024 1:16 AM

Me, too, r54.

I like Walz but I'm not sure his presence is necessary.

by Anonymousreply 57August 30, 2024 1:17 AM

You'd think the Democrats would have learned by now, R48:

by Anonymousreply 70August 30, 2024 1:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 84August 30, 2024 1:27 AM

by Anonymousreply 85August 30, 2024 1:27 AM

Seems so far like this interview won't lose her any voters but won't gain her any either. At least it's one attack point ("she won't do an interview") taken off the table.

Dana Bash seems a bit hostile. Not expecting chummy but this is not so cordial either.

by Anonymousreply 102August 30, 2024 1:33 AM

He doesn’t have a defense, R96.

by Anonymousreply 103August 30, 2024 1:34 AM

[quote] Walz competely ignored the question about his DUI

Maybe because a 30-year-old DUI is completely irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 104August 30, 2024 1:34 AM

I'm a bit frustrated...Walz had the perfect opportunity to say he merely misspoke in that gun violence speech, and also to acknowledge the DUI, and say what a wake up call it was and how much it forced him to grow. It could have been a vulnerable moment where he opened up. And he also could have been more straightforward with the IUI/IVF retort.

by Anonymousreply 105August 30, 2024 1:34 AM

Those supposed gotcha questions are going to be part of the debate. Kamala is not a good debater.

by Anonymousreply 106August 30, 2024 1:35 AM

Yup, r97.

And if this interview elicits yawns from everybody, that's a good thing, that's a win.

by Anonymousreply 107August 30, 2024 1:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 108August 30, 2024 1:36 AM

It's not that it's a tough interview--it's just that Dana's questions are so unbelievably cunty and patronizing.

by Anonymousreply 109August 30, 2024 1:38 AM

[quote]I don't think her tiredness is going to be a source of criticism of her.

HA! You don't know the unwashed, Della. This will be their topic for at least a week and a half. Rather than saying she looks tired, it will be "she looks old", etc

by Anonymousreply 110August 30, 2024 1:40 AM

The questions Dana is asking give Kamala & Tim a chance to retort as these criticisms are out there and widely circulated by the rightwingers and heard by swingvoters

by Anonymousreply 111August 30, 2024 1:40 AM

[quote]Just because Kamala says she'll appoint a Repug to her Cabinet doesn't mean she really will.

Doesn't matter. Republicans would NEVER give Democrats such leeway.

This "olive branch" shit is why people were never keen on Biden. Don't repeat his mistakes.

by Anonymousreply 112August 30, 2024 1:40 AM

Bash, meh, whatever, who cares?

Harris and Walz are doing well. They should do more of these and their answers will get better.

by Anonymousreply 113August 30, 2024 1:40 AM

I don’t see these as “gotcha” questions, Bash is asking questions related to the main criticisms levied at Kamala since her wildly successful campaign started. Kamala is getting an opportunity to answer the questions on her terms, unlike on the debate stage, where that hulking mouth breather will be waiting to pounce on every word.

Kamala is doing a GREAT job.

by Anonymousreply 114August 30, 2024 1:40 AM

Nice, thoughtful, fluid responses from Kamala. This is a hell of a lot better than any Trump/Vance bs. Zero embarrassing moments.

by Anonymousreply 115August 30, 2024 1:41 AM

The questions are fine. They’re supposed to be tough to get some thoughtful answers.

by Anonymousreply 116August 30, 2024 1:41 AM

R109, They are incisive questions.

by Anonymousreply 117August 30, 2024 1:41 AM

R101 I'm with you 100%.

[quote]It's not that it's a tough interview--it's just that Dana's questions are so unbelievably cunty and patronizing.

by Anonymousreply 123August 30, 2024 1:45 AM

39 year old DUI? Come on, Dana.

by Anonymousreply 125August 30, 2024 1:45 AM

Bash is centering the white conservative narrative with some of her silly questions. The nerve of her to ask Kamala what she thinks of The Orange Vomitbag's statement's about her race. Who the fuck cares what he thinks? Or JD Vance, for that matter, who she also asked about Kamala's race.

Harris should have simply said no and brought up Trump's first term and complete Republican party approval as a reason why not.

That aside, it was a great interview, she's a strong candidate.

IMO Pete should take either one of these two positions: White House Chief of Staff. He would be outstanding. And the second job would be head of the VA. They have the biggest budget in the federal government outside Defense Department. Now as for the question about would you ever appoint a Republican, it was a silly question. In the VP's words, "Unserious." Every single President in recent memory and I go back to Carter, has had Republicans somewhere in their administration. by Anonymousreply 154August 30, 2024 2:17 AM

The word Pant Suit needs to be retired now. It sounds ridiculous. Of course there’s pants. It’s a suit. Calling a suit a pant suit is sexust. It sounds like something old people say. Kamala isn’t trading on her femininity. She doesn’t need diminutive names for her clothing.

BINGO!!!

Simon Rosenberg @SimonWDC

Journalism is more than reading Republican talking points and asking Democrats to respond to them.

by Anonymousreply 202August 30, 2024 10:50 AM

R195 He wrote that headline 5 weeks ago. He was never going to write anything else.

Journalists are playing a very dangerous game right now. They are encouraging right wingers to make up more outrageous lies to drown out the truth. Vance could accuse Harris of raping 2 monkeys and a giraffe at the LA zoo and CNN and the NYT would earnestly ask her to defend herself. They would never ask Vance for evidence or proof or even mention it while interviewing him. He would be lobbed soft ball questions and allowed to tell blatant lies while Donnie calls for the jailing of journalists.

Have they never heard “Might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb.” MAGA is never going to accept CNN as unbiased. Trump is never going to stop calling them fake news. He’s never going to stop putting journalists in danger by calling for their imprisonment and pointing them out to his crowds. So why not justify his hatred? No wonder Kamala said turn the page on the last 10 years. The orange one is always in the room. Always.

[quote]The nerve of her to ask Kamala what she thinks of The Orange Vomitbag's statement's about her race. Who the fuck cares what he thinks?

Kamala showed she didn't care - she shut down the question in less than seven seconds. That threw Bash off her tracks because she was expecting a detailed answer from Harris, which would open the door to more racial questions by Bash. But that didn't happen - Harris had zero interest in Trump's opinion about her. And she let the millions of viewers know that.

by Anonymousreply 205August 30, 2024 11:50 AM

[quote] He’s never going to stop putting journalists in danger by calling for their imprisonment and pointing them out to his crowds.

My feeling is that most American journalists do not believe him and/or that such a thing could ever happen in this country. I think that until a journalist is actually severely hurt (or killed) will the "Aha" moment hit. But in their defense, I believe that most Americans are not really cognizant of what we're really dealing with here (Trump) and that an authoritarian government is closer than what we would like to think.

While I can't remember the name of the company (it was some technology company somewhere in California) I'll never forget that once Trump was elected, the CEO of that company, had all of the company's data moved out of the USA to Canada for safety and security's sake. That guy knew exactly what was possible and what was coming. I've also written here that (IMHO) this is no longer just about Trump but much more about the many enablers that are supporting his ideology.

by Anonymousreply 206August 30, 2024 11:51 AM

That interview was a success.

It was dull and informative, and it showed both Harris and Walz to be miles ahead of Trump/Vance in demeanor and smarts and all presented without hoopla.

Most Americans are sick to death of Hoopla. That's why Harris pick of Walz was shrewd, smart and just plain right.

We're in the post - Hoopla hangover phase. All everybody wants is quiet and to nibble at some crackers.

by Anonymousreply 207August 30, 2024 11:53 AM

[quote]How does this type of interview help voters understand her policies at all?

That wasn't CNN's aim R209. Their aim was to catch her off guard with "gotcha" and "wedge" questions and to have Kamala stumble in a spectacle which could be played over and over ad nauseam. For ratings and to a lesser extent - to sink the campaign. CNN is as unwatchable as Fox News.

Why do Dems talk about the “Climate Crisis” in a general election? Just shut up about it until you get into office. All it sounds like to independent/ moderate voters, is raising taxes and job killing policies.

Harris has to sound a bit more moderate. She has said nothing about crime and honesty nothing about illegal immigration. She is allowing Trump to use the same playbook he did in 2016. Trump is saying illegal immigrants are taking black jobs, no response from Harris. Black males already have doubts about Harris, and she is giving Trump an opening.

R218 He is right. The purpose of campaigning is to get votes. This is why democrats stay losing even though 80% Americans support their stance on the economy. Your job is to get votes 3 months before an election that is basically in a statistical tie.

Climate change is not going to decide not NAY swing state or undecided person at this point. I haven’t seen the interview so I don’t exactly know how the conversation played out and the way in which it was brought up but in general discussing climate change for this election is a loser.

R226, what the hell are you talking about? Dems stay losing? Except for 2004, Dems have won the popular vote since 1992.

by Anonymousreply 229August 30, 2024 1:54 PM

It’s all right to talk about climate change. It’s probably not a deciding factor in this election cycle. Nobody is going, “I really wanted to support democracy…but then they mentioned climate change.”

Also, only flat earther morons believe climate change is a hoax and they are already firmly in Trump’s column.

R226 et al aren’t paying attention. Harris/Walz are not vying for the same finite number of mythical voters known as “independents”. They are engaging new voters who are out of reach of the Trump campaign - which is another reason why the MAGA party is trying so hard to disenfranchise voters in swing states.

by Anonymousreply 243August 30, 2024 2:19 PM

She didn’t bring up the climate crisis and she made it clear that she’s committed to green energy (which creates new jobs) but she will not he banning fracking. She answered well.

Illegal immigrants take the worst jobs when they first arrive. Legal migrants on short term visas take jobs that locals will not do for the salary and conditions offered. The working class and the under class have a genuine problem finding dignified work. They are not going to labor on construction site for $80 cash per day - an illegal will. They are not going to slaughter cattle for $9 an hour in Nebraska. A legal migrant will.

Pelosi had a great saying in 2018. She said “it’s not a wall between us and Mexico. It’s a wall between his supporters and the truth”

Black people know he’s full of shit and they resent that he think they are suitable only for awful factory jobs and construction work. The white working class is more susceptible to his message but they also know deep down that “building a wall” won’t fix anything. The only employer left in Middletown is not going to pay $30 an hour with paid sick leave and the landlord is not going to reduce rent so they can save for a home. Legal migration will increase. And worse still. Legal migrants hired as ICs so they can screw everyone in both holes.

Can Harris win the white working class? No but she can eat into some of his support without obsessing about illegals but that’s not the source of their problems. Can she win “black people”. Yes, and she will.

Maga/True Believers - Poor/Middle Class, usually white or white adjacent, think he's a billionaire genius. Drunk the Kool-Aid. Like the uber-masculinity and shit-talking. Some, not all, think the blacks have gotten too uppity and the browns too close. Most would not call themselves racist.

Certain Billionaires - They think he's a bumbling buffoon they can control with money, and in return, they get tax breaks and deregulation.

The any Republican is better than any Democrat types. They would vote for a cockroach with an R after its name.

by Anonymousreply 254August 30, 2024 3:31 PM

What she should have said was that she's all for fracking, as long as it's safe and doesn't effect the water supply or people's health.

by Anonymousreply 255August 30, 2024 3:31 PM

[QUOTE]doesn't effect

Hmph!

by Anonymousreply 256August 30, 2024 4:33 PM

Yes, most of the questions were "MAGA talking points", i.e. "these are things she needs to answer in an interview!!" So, she was asked and she answered. Ultimately the content of questions and answers were pretty anodyne.

I thought the primary goal of the interview was accomplished: the person you've seen in speeches is the same you see in an interview. That person is serious and can act and seem like an adult, a President.

I also thought there are two things I like that further her case to be our President: her looking "old and tired" made her seem Presidential. Her strength in cutting people off is adult and no-nonsense. The moments when Gaza protesters interrupt: "I'm speaking" Bash asking about the Trump race-baiting she's not black: "Same old playbook. Next question." Adult, strong, Presidential. Check.

by Anonymousreply 257August 30, 2024 4:49 PM

Agree Harris needs more pithy answers to questions on fracking or the border. But she seems presidential and Trump does not.

Yup, r257.

by Anonymousreply 297August 31, 2024 12:31 AM

There's a great Pod Save America broadcast with the two hottest (Jon and Dan) and they break down a media strategy for Kamala. I think she should start talking about projects she led as vice president and also those areas where she excelled, including labor relations.

by Anonymousreply 298August 31, 2024 12:41 AM

She has to reduce the pitch to women's reproductive rights, and the economy and hit hard on the fact that she will raise taxes on the wealthy and give the Middle Class a tax break. She also needs to go after Congress. All the things we want to do will never happen without the cooperation and support of Congress. We need to work together...to reform the SCOTUS, to codify the law to protect women's reproductive rights, and to raise the minimum wage.

by Anonymousreply 299August 31, 2024 1:54 AM

[quote] She has to reduce the pitch to women's reproductive rights

She brought her teddy bear for comfort?

by Anonymousreply 309August 31, 2024 1:11 PM

And, if she did R309, so what?

But quite honestly, I would say it is one's perspective. You have your view, but my view is that this was a perfect opportunity for both of them, the team, to be introduced to the nation. A lot of people have no idea who Tim Walz is. I know that I didn't. I was pushing for Josh Shapiro. But then the more I saw of Walz, the more I liked him and researched much more about him. This was a perfect choice.

Then you add on top of that is the fact that many Americans do not know who Kamala Harris is. That's not odd. Many people do not know the VP of the POTUS. So here was an opportunity "to kill two birds with one stone", so to speak.

by Anonymousreply 310August 31, 2024 1:22 PM

FYI: When it comes to that "first" post-convention interview, Mitt Romney brought Paul Ryan, Barack Obama brought Joe Biden, Bush brought Darth Cheney, Joe brought Kamala ...and Trump brought Mike Pence. Anyone who finds it a point of criticism to point out Kamala brought Walz with her is just literally pulling shit out of their asses throwing it on the wall and hoping it sticks.

by Anonymousreply 311August 31, 2024 2:32 PM

basically at this point the GOP will nitpick anything they can as they are so desperate

by Anonymousreply 312August 31, 2024 2:34 PM

At this point, Trump is trying to find something, anything, that will stick. Shockingly enough, nothing has. The polls are tight because that's just the way it's going to be from now on. We will never see lopsided presidential elections again, at least not in the lifetime of anyone posting on this thread. Quite frankly, the best intel is the internal polling that the campaigns do, which has not been released or leaked at this point.

Kamala is not Hillary. The mistakes of 2016 are now probably taught in campaign school.

by Anonymousreply 313August 31, 2024 2:47 PM

Even if the polls were showing Kamala running away with the race, the media would never admit it. They benefit from hyping a "tight" race. It creates anxiety in their viewers and campaigns spend more money on ads. TV ads. They love covering politics and finding someone like Donald Trump. Politics is the easiest thing for a news operation to cover. Featuring candidates and panels on the debates, the town halls, the "panels," costs next to nothing. and the ad buys are almost pure profit.

by Anonymousreply 314August 31, 2024 2:56 PM

From Political Wire:

Politico and the Washington Post are in possession of hacked documents from the Trump campaign on the vetting of Sen. J.D. Vance and yet they have not published any details. These news outlets did not show the same restraint when it came to hacked emails from Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Perhaps there’s nothing newsworthy in the documents? Perhaps they now believe it’s unethical to publish illegally obtained material?

Either way, readers — and voters — deserve an explanation.

And here are several other things voters need to know:

Donald Trump’s campaign has not released a legitimate medical report on the injuries he sustained from the attempted assassination. The Trump campaign has still not released his tax returns. The Trump campaign has not released footage from incident at Arlington cemetery where a Trump aide pushed a cemetery employee.

by Anonymousreply 315August 31, 2024 2:58 PM

R306 I recall talk of a deal but I am not sure what it involved. I do remember how much Pelosi wanted to focus to be on Trump and his impeachment. The failing I have always pointed out is Merrick Garland and the DoJ not investigating and prosecuting members of Congress and the state officials like my own Lt. Governor Burt Jones here in GA who were actively involved with fake lectors and organizing the insurrectionists going to D.C. This plot had many layers and many phases. It was local and statewide and national. It involved Donnie begging the SoS to "find 11,000 votes, to blocking certifications, to filing false paperwork, to recruiting fake electors, and finally a violent insurrection to stop the certification until they could achieve the outcome they desired. The planning for it began at least as early as June, 2020, and maybe sooner if we count all the strategy sessions and meetings, both at Trump's hotel, and at the White House.

The Republican cabinet member shtick is a nasty leftover from Clintonism. As much I like Walz, the "Americas Coach" stuff is being laid on a little too thick. His "Football analogy" speech at the convention just seemed like pandering to rednecks who feel safter voting democrat because there's a "White" on the ticket. It came off as trying too hard.

To be fair, it's politics, most of them don't get to this point by being innocent waifs. But I tend to be very wary of when the media trots out these comfy nicknames for them. I refused to "Uncle" Biden either.

In terms of democrats, it always seems that the ones most vilified by their party are often the ones with the best moral character. George McGovern and Jimmy Carter come to mind. Howard Dean as well.

[quote]Respectfully, I think you've missed the point of modern day politics

I get the point of making an obvious ploy to 'Merican Midwest men who are uncomfortable having to vote for a black woman and who think of nothing but liquor, guns and sports.

Modern Day politics is about appealing to people's most basic, reductive instincts. There's no great mystery there. Look at politicians treat the black community by hauling out rappers every election cycle.

It wouldn't hurt to be a little more intellectual and culturally uplifting. We're not MAGA.

At some point in our political lives, being the smartest and most reasonable candidate in the room has been replaced by being someone with whom everyone wants to have a beer.

Exactly R367 It used to be Republicans that trotted that "guy you'd have a beer with" shit. Now democrats are falling into it as well.

I don't want my politicians "relatable". I want them to do their jobs. I don't need warm and fuzzy feelings for them.

by Anonymousreply 368September 1, 2024 1:43 AM

Democrats need to win, so I'm good with whatever it takes. If that means laughing and having a beer, then so be it. This is politics, not the Algonquin Round Table.

Trump eats fast food because he actually likes it and you'll never see him wearing anything other than a blue suit and red tie unless he's on a golf course. And he brags that he's rich.

The Dems really don't need the "relatable" bullshit as much as they might think. It can come off as phony.

"PJ Media Body Language Experts Analyzed Kamala’s CNN Interview. Here’s What They Found. Matt Margolis | 4:37 PM on August 31, 2024

AP Photo/Paul Sancya It doesn't take an expert to know that Kamala Harris was out of her element during the softball interview with CNN. She's been avoiding interviews and press conferences for weeks, and despite finally agreeing to an interview with a friendly network conducted by a friendly host, she still needed her male running mate to accompany her.

But it should come as no surprise that a body language expert who analyzed Kamala's performance during the interview told Fox News Digital that Harris lacked both confidence and a presidential demeanor.

According to Susan Constantine, Harris frequently looked down during the CNN interview, which suggested that she was “not confident in what she’s saying.” Constantine explained that Harris did not project the “presidential appearance” required to command her position, adding, “She definitely needs to make some tweaks into her body language to appear more confident.”

Related: Here's How We Really Know Kamala's CNN Interview Wasn’t Good for Her

"The fact that she's looking down a lot removes a lot of the fluidity and the authenticity," she added.

Throughout the interview, Constantine noticed that Harris struggled to deliver clear answers, particularly when asked about her “day one” agenda. This led to what Constantine described as “head bobbling,” a sign that Harris was searching for the right answers but couldn’t confidently deliver them.

“When you bobble and waffle like that, that’s another signal that she’s not really… prepared.” Constantine also highlighted Harris’s tendency to break eye contact, which she described as “a form of deflection,” further indicating a lack of confidence.

"So when you're removing an eye gaze, not making good eye contact, it's just showing me that she's not confident in what she's saying."

And Harris was totally using Walz as her emotional support animal. Constantine observed that Harris was “consistently looking for acknowledgment” from Walz, which she suggested undermined Harris’ authority.

"She is looking for that signal from Walz to see if he's on board. Many times when we see him, he's got the pressed lips — that tends to be a more serious, more collected expression in his mouth," Constantine explained.

"Overall, you know, as one woman to another, I would say if you're going to be a woman in power, you have to look like a woman in power," Constantine concluded. "And she doesn't at this time."

Related: It Looks Like Kamala Is About To Chicken Out of Debating Trump

In an interview with Just the News, Greg Hartley, a former U.S. Army interrogator, reached similar conclusions.

Hartley noted how Kamala broke eye contact often and explained that looking “down and right” is an “emotional access cue,” while “down and to left” indicates internal reflection, suggesting Harris was thinking about what not to say. He added that she was “prepped a lot to not engage” and to focus on “not being Trump” because she had “no content.” He bluntly stated, “She’s hollow.”

Hartley also critiqued Harris and Tim Walz's tendency to “chaff and redirect”—talking at length about unrelated topics to avoid tough questions. He mentioned Walz was “uncomfortable” about how his military record was being scrutinized and noted Walz’s “deceptive” behavior regarding his rank when leaving the National Guard.

Hartley also described Harris as “predictable when she’s uncomfortable,” pointing out her tendency to smile, laugh, nod, and speak in a “word salad.” He added, “She has no content at all,” and noted that Harris isn’t effective at “chaff and redirect,” often resorting to cackling when under pressure."

R370 We do actually need it, and it's actually working, so why complain about it?

The resounding takeaway that independent and undecided voters had from the DNC was how much they liked Kamala and Tim and found them relatable, and it was enough to make them lean towards voting form them. What they're doing is working. If it annoys you, don't watch their stump speeches. If you're already a decided voter, they're not really for you anyway.

[quote] 1/ Here’s what’s going to happen: In October, Trump will drop some fabricated nonsense about Harris. Elon Musk and the rest of the right-wing media ecosystem will amplify it, the mainstream press will cover the fight and, absurd as it is, it will present a pre-election problem.

[quote] 2/ Given Trump’s reach and the full power of the Trump-obsessed online army, this will be a bigger deal than Comey’s Hillary Clinton letter. And it will be total bullsh*t. But as we’ve seen, facts mean nothing to many. If you think Trump’s team isn’t already planning this…

[quote] 3/ …then you haven’t been paying attention. This election is existential for Trump and those in his orbit. He loses, they all lose - mainly money. So of course they’re going to pull something wildly dishonest. Of course.

[quote] Democrats need to know that’s coming.

[quote] 4/ They need to be prepared not just to play defense and debunk whatever it is, but they need to be ready to win by a margin that can overcome that kind of an obstacle.

[quote] Point of all this: The polls look encouraging. But they aren’t even remotely good enough to win.

[quote] 5/ Harris has to not just overcome the electoral college disadvantage. She has to overcome whatever the hell the most dishonest politician the country has ever known is cooking up.

Trump doesn't need to campaign like candidates traditionally campaign. He didn't do it in 2016, and he didn't do it in 2020, and he isn't doing it now. He goes through the motions with his rallies, and his "interviews" and he pulls some stunt or says outrageous things so he can grab a headline. He has the entire mainstream press, including the NYT working for him. He doesn't need campaign offices or GOTV. That's his thinking. And of curse they will pull an October surprise. About two or three weeks out from election day they will do something to mobilize their base. My guess is Palestinians or immigrants. In fact if they could manufacture or exploit something to do with immigration they will. I think that's where they'll go. We need to go on the offensive. It isn't enough to say he killed the immigration bill. Corruption is a good issue. And there are SO MANY incidents of t hose PPE loans going to members of Congress, or sleazy deals with Trump and his family, and loans being "forgiven. I think it resonates. We working people struggle while they steal.

Actually, though, his rallies in 2016, and even during covid in 2020, were bigger and more frequent than they've been in the last month or so. I thought maybe he'd rev it up after Labor Day. Recent polling has shown Harris reclaiming the Democrats' lead with union voters. A survey from Emerson College released on August 16 found that the vice president was ahead of Trump by 14.8 percentage points among union voters in Pennsylvania (56.8 percent to 42 percent). Back in July, a similar poll found the former president leading union voters by 5 percentage points while Biden was still in the race.

Harris also received promising numbers out of Michigan in an Emerson College poll released late last week—while 30.1 percent of union households said they would vote for Harris if the election were held today, Trump trailed by double digits, earning 20 percent of the vote. The survey was based on the responses of 800 likely voters with a margin of error of 3.4 percent.

Now, they're all probably sitting in some rathole scheming about how to "win" the election. Without campaigning, and without worrying about the vote.

Remember that whole right wing thing about Biden hiding in the basement and not campaigning in 2020 (during the height of the pandemic)?

Well, why is Trump hiding in the basement and not campaigning in 2024? He doesn't have the excuse of a pandemic.

R457 I'm sure I'm making a mountain of a mole hill but I was a bit taken aback with Josh mildly slapped Kamala on the upper arm (this is after they've already hugged). I can't see clearly, but I think a few seconds later, she did the same to her - and then he slapped her on the upper arm again. Isn't that a sort of dominant move - I can't imagine one of the women in the line, later on, or even the men, like the one in uniform, doing that.

Oh well, no biggie, but I wonder if ingrained gendered behaviors show up often?

by Anonymousreply 461September 3, 2024 2:27 AM

*a few seconds later, she did the same to HIM...

by Anonymousreply 462September 3, 2024 2:28 AM

R461 I got the same impression. Shapiro has know Harris for like 20 years and I think this was a gesture of dominance. His familiarity was out of place. He wanted to show the familiarity and the dominance. Short man syndrome.

R449 why are you cumdumps using whore in a negative context?

by Anonymousreply 465September 3, 2024 5:39 AM

At R454 it's so affirming to see Kamala's animation, her full beaming engagement, the force of her charisma. (I know: Mary!)

You-Know-Who and his flesh-crawling VP couldn't begin to replicate that charm if they had years of tuition, and probably wouldn't want to anyway.

They and their media supporters can only recognise Kamala has natural talents inaccessible to them, and attempt to degrade her accordingly.

Apart from all else, this election is a choice between a recognisable human being who instantly creates benign attention and trust; and a lazy mentally ill criminal who barely pretends to like people at all, let alone care for them. The fact that this election is remotely 'close' is one of the mysteries of the cosmos.

[quote] Kamala is doing very well in the swing states she needs.

She's doing fairly well in Michigan and Wisconsin, where she has 3 to 4 point leads (though those leads are still within the margin of error). But those two states alone aren't enough. She also needs to win Pennsylvania, which right now is a dead heat. The other swing states (Georgia, Arizona, North Carolina, Nevada) are also dead heats. There's definitely been some slippage for Harris in the past week. If the election were held today, it could go either way.

by Anonymousreply 547September 8, 2024 7:09 PM

If Kamala gets Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois, but not PA she can still win. She'd need Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. She could conceivably win without Georgia too. Google yourself an interactive electoral college map and dope out various scenarios.

Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado aren't swing states in this election cycle. (When Biden was still running, there was some speculation that Minnesota might become a swing state, but not anymore.) It's a given that Harris will win those 3 states. Those wins are already "baked in."

If Harris loses PA (19 electoral votes), she'll need more than just Nevada and Arizona (total of 17 electoral votes) to make up for it. She would need a win in either Georgia or North Carolina. Right now, Georgia and North Carolina are both dead heats. Harris's safest and clearest path to victory is still to win Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, in which case she can lose all the other swing states.

Mooks error (well, one of several) was thinking that Wisc was NOT a swing state. Rest assured that the Harris campaign has a laser-like focus on the seven states at play. And if no one outside of those seven "sees" Harris or Walz that probably means they are putting time in resources where it's needed most.
