I don't understand why it takes 6 weeks to get a dresser from West Elm

I'll get a blog later, but I just needed to vent to my friends on DL.

Cue avalanche of posts telling you to go to thrift stores or Marketplace to find authentic midcentury modern furniture made of actual wood.

by Anonymousreply 1August 29, 2024 6:48 PM

We are not your friends, you boring cunt.

by Anonymousreply 2August 29, 2024 6:49 PM

I condole you, OP.

by Anonymousreply 3August 29, 2024 6:49 PM

And it's also overpriced

by Anonymousreply 4August 29, 2024 6:56 PM

The wicked witch of the west elm must rub newt musk on it

by Anonymousreply 5August 29, 2024 7:03 PM

The elves who make it are backed up on their orders.

by Anonymousreply 6August 29, 2024 7:05 PM

Customs duties in shipping to you in East Elm.

by Anonymousreply 7August 29, 2024 7:06 PM

6 weeks actually seems kinda quick, OP.

Most of today's big furniture retailers don't start making larger items until after you order them. We waited almost 4 months last year for a chair that is still in their showroom. And these are all foreign made, so there's other issues (shipping, customs, supply chain) that can also come into play.

West Elm in particular seems to have lots of issues. Lots of complaints on Reddit about how long/delayed something was in an order.

Sitting here waiting for Crate and Barrel to send a few drawer pulls we ordered months ago. Same deal with them.

Slow boat from China?

by Anonymousreply 9August 29, 2024 7:11 PM

R3 Isn’t wood a staple of your diet you lazy cunt?

by Anonymousreply 10August 29, 2024 7:12 PM

OP: The children in China are not working fast enough.

[QUOTE]We are not your friends, you boring cunt.

But, you're all I had left.

by Anonymousreply 12August 29, 2024 8:02 PM

if you can't understand...you are too stupid to live.

Ordering furniture has always, always, always been slow when ordering in America. Mainly because we don't make it here any more. 6 weeks is normal for that kind of low end crap. Try ordering some really high-end stuff from Europe, its double or tipple the time it takes to get here. We are talking months. Sounds to me like you are too used to ordering your stuff from Ikea.

by Anonymousreply 14August 30, 2024 8:38 AM

You "I only buy furniture from Europe" queens are almost as bad as the "I only make everything fresh and homemade" queens.

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2024 1:40 PM

Not always always always R14 but for sure in the last 20 to 30 years, since so much of what we used to make is now made overseas, as you said.

by Anonymousreply 16August 30, 2024 3:00 PM

R15, it's not about being a Euro snob, America literally has almost no furniture design industry anymore. It collapsed about 30 years ago when everything was being made so cheap in Asia and every retail store in the US started filling their showrooms with that cheap crap.

by Anonymousreply 17August 31, 2024 1:57 AM

What did you buy

by Anonymousreply 18September 2, 2024 12:17 AM

this thread is useless without pics

by Anonymousreply 19September 2, 2024 3:34 AM

But is it a rescue dresser?

by Anonymousreply 20September 2, 2024 3:41 AM

Does the dresser have it's own fan page? Some actually do.

by Anonymousreply 21September 2, 2024 10:59 AM

I ordered a made in America couch from Ethan Allen and it took five months.

by Anonymousreply 22September 2, 2024 11:10 AM

R18, St. Olaf?

by Anonymousreply 23September 2, 2024 11:35 AM

What's a dresser?

by Anonymousreply 24September 2, 2024 1:50 PM

Probably shipping from China. Shipping delays through the Red Sea. Some Houthi warlord might be using your dresser to decorate his tent right now, OP.

by Anonymousreply 25September 2, 2024 2:27 PM

I looked at Ethan Allen, but their lead times were even more insane.

by Anonymousreply 26September 2, 2024 2:45 PM

Ethan Allen

Tell me you're ancient, without telling me you're ancient, Gramps. Precious Moments goes well with Ethan Allen.

by Anonymousreply 27September 2, 2024 6:15 PM

R27 = dialing in from 1989

by Anonymousreply 28September 2, 2024 6:23 PM

Also there must be some sort of cleaner or polish to use on that West Elm wood finish furniture. Just wiping it off, as they instruct, can't be enough over time.
