Classic/popular/iconic films that you've never seen

Inspired by the current Sound of Music thread.

List any film from any era if you want, but I was really thinking of films old enough that you wouldn't necessarily be seeing them in theaters (though theaters themselves are almost a thing of the past, aren't they?).....old enough to have a bit of a following, or ones that are known as a classic.

I'm ashamed to even say mine!

R4 My deepest apologies. I guess it's an evergreen topic.

by Anonymousreply 6August 29, 2024 12:47 AM

I have never been able to last more than 10 minutes into Lawrence of Arabia, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Deerhunter or It's A Wonderful Life. I ALWAYS fall asleep, so I've never really watched either film.

I have never watched Casablanca and after reading the synopsis, I have no interest in ever doing so. The same applies to Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid, James Bond films (I've only ever watched Never Say Never Again), Jaws, Easy Rider and A Clockwork Orange.

The films I've never watched but I'd love to see are Chinatown, Deliverance and Gangs of New York.

I've never seen:

Gone with the Wind

The Sound of Music

Funny Girl

Mildred Pierce

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

by Anonymousreply 8August 29, 2024 1:08 AM

R4 Not exactly the same theme.

by Anonymousreply 9August 29, 2024 1:08 AM

R7 A synopsis of Casablanca will never tell you anything about what makes Casablanca great.

by Anonymousreply 10August 29, 2024 1:09 AM

R7 It's A Wonderful Life is the classic everyone seems to know and yet I've never seen.

I've caught a few seconds here and there but never sat through it all. I guess my family was never sitting in front of the TV on Christmas Eve.

by Anonymousreply 11August 29, 2024 1:14 AM

I've never seen It's A Wonderful Life on Christmas Eve, but I did see it when it used to be on TV at any time of the year.

I have not seen a lot of the more recent Oscar-nominated films. From, say, the past 10 years. I stopped going to the movies after seeing about 5 shitty movies in a row. And somehow I'm not compelled to stream these movies or get the dvds/blu rays out of the library. Not that I'm not open to seeing them but the motivation isn't there. And so many of them are 2.5 to 3 hours long.

by Anonymousreply 14August 29, 2024 1:21 AM

Never saw Atonement, btw.

Ben-Hur-Casablanca-It's a Wonderful Life-Die Hard-Titanic (1997)-The Good, the Bad and the Ugly-The Matrix-Braveheart-The Big Lebowski-Dances with Wolves

by Anonymousreply 16August 29, 2024 1:29 AM

I never saw Sophie's Choice, The Deer Hunter, Easy Rider, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (didn't like Raiders of the Lost Ark), La Dolce Vita, Avatar, The Matrix, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Imitation Game, Fatal Attraction, Goodfellas, El Cid, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Mrs. Doubtfire, Lincoln, Forrest Gump.

by Anonymousreply 17August 29, 2024 1:34 AM

Also never saw The Little Mermaid, Frozen, Toy Story(s), Moana, Zootopia, Encanto.

by Anonymousreply 18August 29, 2024 1:37 AM

I haven’t seen Titanic either and have no desire to. Ditto the Godfather movies. Or any of that Marvel crap.

I love old, like from the 30’s/40’s, movies but I didn’t think I’d like Casablanca since I’m not a Bogart fan but much to my surprise I did.

by Anonymousreply 19August 29, 2024 1:42 AM

Anything in the Fast & Furious franchise after the first half hour of the first movie.

by Anonymousreply 20August 29, 2024 2:10 AM

R8 Me neevah except Guess Who. Both versions. How old are you?

by Anonymousreply 21August 29, 2024 4:43 AM

R11 skip all except Goodfellas, La Dolce Vita and for laughs watch Mrs. Doubtfire.

by Anonymousreply 22August 30, 2024 1:08 AM

We always made fun of the sappy It’s A Wonderful Life when I was a kid, but I love it now.

Pretty Woman; Dances With Wolves; Beaches; LOTR; JFK...

I was at an estate sale last weekend and they had about 200 dvds for sale at $2.00 each. I was excited til I realized it was all breeder shit with Tom Hanks, Kevin Costner, Julia Roberts, Sandra Bullock.

by Anonymousreply 29August 30, 2024 8:38 AM

Apocalypse Now. At the time it was released, the theme didn't interest me. Now, at 2.5 hours, it's probably too long, but I'll give it a shot one of these days.

My eldergay husband has never seen Mildred Pierce, but I’m remedying that tonight.
