I’m looking forward to seeing it!

It looks hilarious. Friends went to a test screening months ago and loved it. They actually said it was quite touching. Keaton has a ton of exquisite costume changes too.

“Beetlejuice 2’s opening weekend surpassed expectations and confirmed Jenna Ortega’s box office power.”

by Anonymousreply 3August 28, 2024 7:08 PM

Another review says that Catherine O’Hara steels the entire film.

I love that they did everything by hand with puppeteers. There’s a clip on X showing them pulling out Beetlejuice’s guts with a line attached to his shirt. No CGI except for the removal of the cable line.

R3, that’s a bit much. You have the OGs there and Justin Theroux is said to be fantastic alone with Willem Dafoe. Danny DeVito is in it too.

A clip leaked of how Beetlejuice died during the Black Plague. Why do I find Keaton sexy now? He was handsome in his youth but now he has a hot daddy vibe. You should check out “Knox Goes Away” which he directed recently. It’s on HBO and Max.

R5: I was joking. Hollywood today instantly declares everyone and everything a movie star with broad, massive appeal because there’s a dearth of legitimate movie stars.

by Anonymousreply 7August 28, 2024 7:32 PM

Oh, I know, r7.

by Anonymousreply 8August 28, 2024 8:34 PM

Saw the original once - that was enough.

by Anonymousreply 9August 28, 2024 11:34 PM

I’m so glad I’ve stayed alive long enough to see this. The original was 36 years ago!

by Anonymousreply 10August 28, 2024 11:38 PM

Steels - oh, dear.

by Anonymousreply 11August 28, 2024 11:40 PM

R9 is sad.

by Anonymousreply 12August 28, 2024 11:55 PM

R7 is not Glen Powell.

by Anonymousreply 13August 28, 2024 11:58 PM

I just bought tickets for next Friday.

by Anonymousreply 14August 28, 2024 11:59 PM

Great news. Hot Topic will have more shit to sell to angry goth teens for the next few decades.

by Anonymousreply 15August 29, 2024 4:34 PM

Beetlejuice is now an influencer.

r4 All practical effects? I'm definitely splurging on a movie ticket just for that. 😃

by Anonymousreply 17August 29, 2024 5:34 PM

Has Boebert commented?

by Anonymousreply 18August 29, 2024 5:37 PM

What are your thoughts?

I really enjoyed it! It’s silly good fun and, omg, “MacArthur Park”! 😂 I wish they had expanded on Monica Bellucci’s character though. I don’t know if anyone noticed but when they were showing Beetlejuice’s past loves, the dog that caused the Maitlands’ car accident in the first one appears!

by Anonymousreply 20September 8, 2024 3:40 AM

I saw it last night. It's hard to believe that after 36 years *that* was the best script they could come up with. It took way too long to get to the actual plot and to bring back Beeteljuice. Thee subplots with Monica Bellucci and Willem Defoe were also completely pointless. Michael Keaton stole every scene he was in, though.

I saw it last Thursday afternoon. I enjoyed it, had a smile on my face the whole time, and was happy being in that early zany goth Tim Burton world again. And everyone in it is good.

All that said, it doesn’t quite stick the ending and I came away disappointed. It really is fan service, which is fine and all, but . . .not quite enough.

This movie sucks. There is nothing dreamy and campy like the original. Everything is so on the nose, also the cinematography, sets and lighting is highly inconsistent and way too realistic for a film like this, too HD.

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2024 5:34 AM

I thought it was fun and enjoyable. I would recommend if you loved the 1st one.
