Kaos explores a rarely seen gay experience - and defies a major trope

The Netflix fantasy series explores queerness in multiple forms.

Yes, i just learned of this series last night and am definitely going to watch it this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 3August 30, 2024 9:44 PM

I’m an expert in ancient Greece – Netflix’s Kaos is the cleverest retelling of Greek mythology I’ve ever seen

I couldn't even make it through the trailer. I'll pass.

Besides, I hate Jeff Goldblum

by Anonymousreply 5August 30, 2024 10:43 PM

I never realized how...swarthy his coloring is.

Wonder what his genetics are.

by Anonymousreply 6August 30, 2024 10:47 PM

This show sucked. The main gay guy didn't even get a boyfriend. Sure, he got ONE sex scene, and then he kissed another guy once. That was it. Major disapppointment.

by Anonymousreply 7August 31, 2024 1:22 PM

R7 really said “none of you are going to watch this anyway so fuck you…”

by Anonymousreply 8August 31, 2024 1:32 PM

R8 I didn't spoil any of the actual plot.

by Anonymousreply 9August 31, 2024 1:41 PM

I'm loving this series.

Know very little about Greek gods, will it be confusing?

by Anonymousreply 11September 3, 2024 12:24 PM

Not in the least. Explanations abound as each is introduced and developed.

by Anonymousreply 12September 3, 2024 12:25 PM

As a Greek with extensive education in GM, I approve of this series. Loved it.

by Anonymousreply 13September 3, 2024 1:06 PM

It looks terrible. I like Goldblum but ew no.

by Anonymousreply 14September 3, 2024 1:22 PM

For r11.

R7 Does it suck because it sucks OR because it doesn't fulfill your ridiculous requirement for gay characters to have explicit sex and/or partners?

I had no idea Hera was Zesus' sisterwife.

by Anonymousreply 16September 3, 2024 1:51 PM

You lost me at Jeff Goldblum.

by Anonymousreply 17September 3, 2024 2:29 PM

Just finished it. So, so good and imaginative. *This* is how you do a modern retelling of the Greek mythology and use it to critique contemporary religions while you're at it. Jeff Goldblum is equally hilarious and terrifying when he loses it. Was pleasantly surprised that they didn't make Medusa into a murderous bitch.

I do wish they got even more money, so they could score it properly beyond that one "Vero" chant. On the other hand, all that silence did make the needle drops land harder, so there's that.

Speaking of, the small acts of cruelty by the gods land harder because of the lack of nudity and gore, which is something you'd expect going into a show like this. I'm grateful they didn't go the full The Boys with that, as is fashionable these days.

My favourite part were the permanently terrified Olympus twinks and Goldblum abusing them at every turn! And of course the British actor Nabhaan Rizwan, whose career I've been following closely for years now. He is so dreamy.

And here he is with his even more beautiful brother Mawaan, who pings to me. Honestly, I get a bi vibe from both of them.

Looks like shit.

by Anonymousreply 20September 3, 2024 3:16 PM

By the way, Mawaan had a show on BBC last year where DL fave Russell Tovey played his boyfriend.

r20 It looks awesome and it was awesome. Hence the glowing reviews.

by Anonymousreply 22September 3, 2024 3:17 PM

r16 Don't bother, you can see from the replies the usual suspects took one look at Izzard and decided it "looks like shit". Wrong audience, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 23September 3, 2024 3:20 PM

I totally forgot to mention the inclusion of our Judy's original Over the Rainbow. How often does that happen? And yeah, I fucking cried when it happened, sue me.

by Anonymousreply 24September 3, 2024 3:25 PM

R18 Goldblum can afford a publicist? Who knew.

by Anonymousreply 25September 3, 2024 3:28 PM

He's got all that Fly money.

by Anonymousreply 26September 3, 2024 3:29 PM

Agree r24 ❤️

by Anonymousreply 27September 3, 2024 4:31 PM

It’s at 69% on RT, which while certified fresh isn’t what I’d call glowing. If I’m relying on the tomatometer, I usually don’t bother trying a show with less than 80-85%.

Thank you r15. Not quite sure how someone with a head full of snakes can be considered “human”. Especially as she’s also dead. Maybe the cast should be divided into “Gods” and “Not Gods but Pretty Much Immortal”.

by Anonymousreply 29September 3, 2024 10:05 PM

[quote]I had no idea Hera was Zesus' sisterwife.

R16 - Cronus and Rhea were the parents of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, Poseidon, and the youngest child - Zeus. Zeus married Hera and they reigned as King and Queen of the gods.

I really enjoyed this series. It was very quirky and unexpected. I don't know how to describe it but I'll definitely watch season 2. Pity there weren't more of the gods in it like Athena, Apollo, Ares, Aphrodite etc. Maybe season 2.

by Anonymousreply 30September 4, 2024 12:57 AM

R7 He was not gay. Did you miss the part where he was having sex with both men and women in the first episode? And then fallen in love with a woman in the end?

by Anonymousreply 31September 7, 2024 8:04 PM

Why did they made Zeus into such a goofy doofus? Couldn't take him seriously.

by Anonymousreply 32September 7, 2024 8:05 PM

Dionysus being bisexual (or rather, pansexual) makes perfect sense, mythology-wise.

by Anonymousreply 33September 7, 2024 8:06 PM

The Irish actor that played the musician (Orpheus) was quite bad at acting. And what's up with those eyebrows?

by Anonymousreply 34September 7, 2024 8:07 PM

r32 I enjoyed that a lot, he kinda made the show for me. I though his fits of wrath landed that much harder precisely because he was such a clueless goober otherwise.

by Anonymousreply 35September 7, 2024 8:07 PM

r34 Yeah, he was definitely the weakest one of the cast. Easy on the eye though, so I didn't mind the one-dimensional acting. I did notice his eyebrows jutting out at certain points, which I wanted to correct.

I covet this pink shirt. COVET it.

I'm not brown though, so it probably wouldn't look as nice on me.
