Was Diana Dors a great beauty?

She was nothing special.

She wasn’t so much beautiful as she was striking, sexy, and fun to watch. I really enjoyed her performance as the shrewish, scolding wife in From Beyond the Grave. I also enjoyed her in Berserk, as the tough shrew Matilda who gets sawed in half during a sabotaged circus performance. She was very effective at playing tough, unyielding broads, great at telling others off. I watch almost any films that list her among the credits.

She was earthy and relatable rather than a great beauty. She was a very good actress, but her sexy roles and persona when she was young concealed that. She got some decent character roles when she was older. There is still a big mystery over what happened to her fortune.

She was not a great beauty but seemed like even more a a caricature than Jayne Mansfield. However, as others squid, she had a certain talent and humor that made her performance and presence unique.

I had never heard of Belinda Lee before a trip to Rome a few years ago. I went to the Non-Catholic Cemetery to see the graves of Keats, Shelley and also the choreographer Lindsey Kemp. I came across Belinda’s grave by chance. I googled her and learned of her complicated life. Poor woman.
