You couldn't pay me to see it. He is second only to Trump when it comes to my hatred.

Who knew Penelope Ann Miller is right wing trash?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 25, 2024 10:42 PM |
The wardrobe/hair stylist should give us a call to color Reagan’s hair. (To be clear, it wasn’t our product that Guilianni used).

C. Thomas Howell playing Caspar Weinberger.
He talks about working under Covid conditions. How long ab=go was this made?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 25, 2024 10:51 PM |
It says at the end of the Howell interview the movie is "due to be released in 2022."

Who does Scott Baio play?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 25, 2024 11:44 PM |
R5, it's possible she isn't and only took this role because she needs the money

Why is every movie these days shot in complete darkness?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 25, 2024 11:51 PM |
The actor who plays young Reagan is hot in a that thin-lipped, white dude who definitely plays golf every weekend way. Too bad he's a Far Right Ultra-Conservative Catholic loon. If you need any further evidence, he's also recently made a film with Mel Gibson.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 26, 2024 1:23 AM |
Jon Voight and Robert Davi as Russians.
This will be about as convincing as John Saxon playing an Arab oil baron on Dynasty.

The James Brolin / Judy Davis 2003 movie was good enough for me to know everything I didn't want to know about The Reagans, and it was barely entertaining.
What I recall most about the film was that CBS was set to air this as a 2 night / 4 hour miniseries in mid-November, 2003 for 'ratings sweep'. The GOP protested and pressured CBS not to air this at all as it was 'left wing media propaganda' . The Reagan family (and I believe the Bush family) issued statements saying the President deserved better.
So parent company Viacom caved and pulled it from their schedule and aired it on their subscriber-based Showtime channel, instead. They later issued a statement saying that they received a huge bump in subscribers solely because they were airing the movie.

R13 Except Reagan didn't have hair that dark when he was young.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 26, 2024 1:48 AM |
No. Hated him then, hate him even more now because this fucked up nation is the direct result of his presidency. No need to relive the nightmare.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 26, 2024 3:21 AM |
When kids tell me now that they have to pay extra for the extracurricular activities in school, I think of the Reagan administration cutting arts programs. Maybe it wasn't a direct result, but everything has gone to shit since then. There are still people questioning how we can possibly afford to give people anything good in this country. It all seemed to gain momentum in the Reagan years. Also, on a more person level, the Reagan Recession got my 60 year old dad laid off after working in the same place for 35 years.

He was openly hostile to minorities. Not unlike Trump is today - both of them had no shame.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 26, 2024 5:38 AM |
Instead of watching this pointless piece of hagiography, watch the EXCELLENT Showtime docuseries. If the docuseries had aired on HBO or Netflix, it would have gotten so much more attention. It's meticulously researched and features probably the most candid interviews you've heard from Reagan-world insiders, including many of the surviving members of his cabinet and his children. Like history... the series is... not kind to Ron or Nancy.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 26, 2024 6:43 AM |
Thanks, R23! The trailer looks interesting as well as biting. I think I'll watch that instead.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 26, 2024 1:52 PM |
Watched parts 1 & 2 so far, R23 -- thanks again!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 26, 2024 10:02 PM |
r24 - It's pretty fascinating, isn't it? Not just for the very candid insider commentary from some very powerful figures in American politics, but for the way in which the director threads the themes of the rise of American conservatism from Nixon's Southern strategy through to Reaganism and its terrible aftershocks we experience to this day. I wish there were more politically-themed docuseries like this. This stuff is like catnip for me.

Didn’t most of you live through those horrible years? One of the worst presidents of all time. He fucked us up economically.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 27, 2024 4:23 AM |
But, if you watch that instead of the movie, somewhere, a has been actress (Penelope Ann Miller) may go to bed hungry!
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 27, 2024 4:24 AM |
No previews. Bad sign. I’ll have to pass. Rather, I’ll “Just Say “No””.

Scott Stapp as Sinatra - LOL

I'm not sure what your point is./ That in and of itself certainly doesn't mean it's a bad movie. There have been good movies about other bad presidents before ("Nixon," "W"), and there are even good movies about even worse world leaders ("Downfall," "The Death of Stalin"). No one has to admire a historical figure to admire a movie made about his or her life.
That being said, this movie looks like it's been made by conservatives who want to make a highly flattering and unrealistic portrait of Ronnie, so i think I'll pass on this one. If it looked to be more honest, I might see it.

You could post a million pictures of P-A Miller in this, and in a million years I wouldn't guess she was supposed to be Nancy "Casket Dance" Reagan.

SENILE- The Movie

R32, it's like the people from Hallmark want to branch out into biopics now.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 31, 2024 1:15 AM |
It looks like something those faith-based studios put out. Or the people who brought you "The Sound of Freedom" or "My Son, Hunter".
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 31, 2024 1:18 AM |
The cast includes Dennis Quaid, Jon Voight, Kevin Sorbo, and Scott Stapp. Why is C. Thomas Howell involved? Is he a right-wing douchebag now, too? And why did it take so long for this turd to be released?

[quote] Dennis Quaid, Jon Voight
How far they’ve fallen.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 2, 2024 3:19 PM |
r41 - that's an interesting one. Perhaps C. Thomas Howell was just desperate for work/hadn't saved well? I say that because on his Twitter (which he doesn't seem to update often), he's retweeted tweets from squad members like AOC and Ilhan Omar and Bernie Sanders. I don't think he's a MAGAT.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 3, 2024 1:02 AM |
Howell was also in Democrat megadonor Rob Reiner's movie about LBJ.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 3, 2024 1:28 AM |
Is Sorbo playing Rock Hudson?
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 3, 2024 1:34 AM |
Ok, hopefully Tommy Howell is just broke and needed a paycheck. I always liked him.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 3, 2024 1:44 AM |
Films about politicians are always tricky. They either end up accused of being a hatchet job or a hagiography.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 3, 2024 1:47 AM |
I haven't been following all that closely, but didn't it bomb at the box office on opening night (Friday 8-30) ?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 3, 2024 1:53 AM |
I wouldn't be surprised, R48. Who exactly is the audience for this? Not Democrats, not MAGA. Those few country club Republicans left?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 3, 2024 2:02 AM |
It sucks more than Nancy Davis did.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 3, 2024 2:05 AM |
R49 I guess Liz and Dick Cheney had the whole cineplex to themselves the other night.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 3, 2024 2:07 AM |
I watched the Reagan documentary on Showtime and that's all the Reagan I need to see.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 3, 2024 2:10 AM |
Does Dennis Quaid show hole?
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 3, 2024 2:13 AM |
I'll wait until I hear whether or not there's an epilogue showing the Gipper roasting in Hell for how he handled the AIDS crisis.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 3, 2024 2:15 AM |
R53 Quaid shows Reagan's hole. Don't miss it.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 3, 2024 2:16 AM |
Reagan presents hole to Oliver North and there’s a “shipment of domestic weapons” atop the Resolute Desk.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 3, 2024 2:43 AM |
I'm looking forward to snickering through it on Pluto TV six months from now.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 3, 2024 2:51 AM |
Oliver North - where has he been hiding these days ? Is he a MAGA ?
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 3, 2024 2:59 AM |
The real thing was bad enough.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 3, 2024 3:19 AM |
As long as it is truthful.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 3, 2024 4:29 AM |
My very liberal son went to see it in DC with friends - they sat at the back of the theatre laughing all the way through, to the annoyance of the older people in the audience. He texted immediately after to tell me that it skips over AIDS, Iran-Contra, and all the other major scandals.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 3, 2024 6:22 AM |
R53 yes, the whole movie is about an asshole
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 3, 2024 7:39 AM |
R43 It's all show. He moved to Tennessee and plays in some country band. He tries to appeal to that audience now. He even changed his accent.
