If not, then who?
Was prime Catherine Deneuve the best-looking French woman ever?
by Anonymous | reply 87 | August 25, 2024 3:05 AM |
she has perfect white supremacist features. Couldn't pick a person of color?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 22, 2024 2:28 AM |
Yes plus talent and taste.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 22, 2024 2:31 AM |
No. But made the most of her looks. Chic.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 22, 2024 2:34 AM |
One of the top 5 most beautiful blonde movie actresses.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 22, 2024 2:37 AM |
Catherine Deneuve was an ideal. Being an the face of a nation in cinema, she became an international star and an international ideal. And she was classically gorgeous.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 22, 2024 2:38 AM |
Very photogenic for sure. The camera loves some people. I've heard/read she was breathtaking in person too. Cameras don't always capture it.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 22, 2024 2:53 AM |
R4, who are your full top 5?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 22, 2024 3:55 AM |
Here's a whole bunch. Deneuve never did anything for me. Elegant, boring.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 22, 2024 4:05 AM |
I'd say the young Isabelle Adjani.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 22, 2024 4:07 AM |
Capucine's look was similar to Grace Kelly. Beautiful but not striking. Maybe "classic beauty"? Lovely, but not special.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 22, 2024 4:12 AM |
I always thought she was too 'perfect' - but gorgeous undeniably.
I loved her in The Hunger.
Brigitte Bardot's looks had a youthful cliff that you know was going to happen. By her 30's, she wasn't much. Same thing with her look-a-like Claudia Schiffer. They turned into ugly trolls.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 22, 2024 4:13 AM |
Catherine's face was the equal to Grace Kelly's, in my opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 22, 2024 4:15 AM |
R12, what do you think is the resemblance between Grace Kelly and Capucine?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 22, 2024 4:23 AM |
Rumor Willis
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 22, 2024 4:31 AM |
R15 They are both beautiful, beautiful women with equally defined features but nothing jumps out. Simone Signoret is more beautiful than either Capucine or Grace Kelly but none of them measure up to Deneuve's beauty.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 22, 2024 4:37 AM |
R17, who do you think is the most beautiful woman ever?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 22, 2024 4:41 AM |
R18 Deneuve.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 22, 2024 4:46 AM |
I'm not R17 but my choice is Audrey Hepburn.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 22, 2024 4:46 AM |
Christy T, In the 90s - even with that mess of a nosejob.
Naomi Campbell circa 92, ditto Helena Christensen.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 22, 2024 1:13 PM |
What about Ines de la Fressange?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 22, 2024 1:13 PM |
Hedy Lamarr was breath taking and quite a brain inside that noggin. She was an inventor that helped helped create a radio frequency device that could not be deciphered by the Nazi's.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 22, 2024 1:30 PM |
When this ad came out in the early 70s it made such a splash that Johnny Carson mentioned in his monologue how stunning she was.
Hepburn and Lamarr weren't French.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 22, 2024 1:34 PM |
What does the Nazi possess?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 22, 2024 1:52 PM |
R10, I agree — Isabelle Adjani, the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen in person.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 22, 2024 2:11 PM |
A young Bardot would have made a great Tina recast.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 22, 2024 2:32 PM |
R17, when did Simone Signoret look her best?
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 22, 2024 5:12 PM |
I commented to my neighbor in Paris that I thought Deneuve was very beautiful. She replied “Oh! She is having surgery EVERY DAY!”
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 22, 2024 5:41 PM |
R11 Capucine was so beautiful, and so funny in the Pink Panther. I loved her performance in that old film.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 22, 2024 6:10 PM |
Madame Pompadour was such a sensation that people in France clamored for totems of her to grace their homes. Busts, statues, paintings…
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 22, 2024 6:38 PM |
Loved Capucine. She even had a teensey bit of Joan Crawford going on.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 22, 2024 6:54 PM |
I'd go with Eva Green. Insanely beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 22, 2024 7:07 PM |
R28 Simone was beautiful in her youth and she retained her sexy confidence and natural beauty as she aged. I loved her in Games, an excellent film with James Caan, Katherine Ross, and Don Stroud which was an American remake of her movie Les Diaboliques. She allowed herself to age in films.
Simone had it all. Elizabeth Taylor is the only American actress who retained the same sexiness as she aged.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 22, 2024 8:45 PM |
Catherine Deneuve or Brigitte Bardot?
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 22, 2024 8:45 PM |
Anouk Aimee was most beautiful. Eva Green is right up there too.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 22, 2024 9:28 PM |
Did Catherine Deneuve ever date Alain Delon?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 23, 2024 12:37 AM |
My friend thinks that Morgan Fairchild looks like Catherine Deneuve.
Does anyone agree?
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 23, 2024 1:47 AM |
She had the looks, her sister Francoise Dorleac had the charisma.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 23, 2024 1:49 AM |
R38 No.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 23, 2024 2:27 AM |
[quote] My friend thinks that Morgan Fairchild looks like Catherine Deneuve.
Penny Mordaunt does resemble her however.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 23, 2024 2:32 AM |
Oh honey, Catherine Deneuve in her prime - she was absolutely stunning, no doubt about it! Those cheekbones, that elegance, that effortless French charm. It’s no wonder she became an icon of beauty and style. But when it comes to being *the* best-looking French woman ever, well, that’s a tough one! France has blessed us with so many incredible beauties over the years, each with their own unique je ne sais quoi.
I mean, how do you compare Deneuve to Brigitte with her wild, untamed spirit? Or the ethereal, timeless grace of Audrey Tautou? And let’s not forget the legendary Jeanne Moreau, who had that mysterious, magnetic quality that just drew you in.
So while Catherine was certainly one of the most gorgeous women to ever grace the screen, I think it’s impossible to crown just one. Each of these women, in their own way, captured something truly special. Vive la beauté française, darling!

Emmanuelle Beart
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 23, 2024 2:36 AM |
I didn't know she was inChanel advertisements, being so close to YSL.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 23, 2024 3:12 AM |
Ava Gardner in her prime.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 23, 2024 3:16 AM |
It is apparent reading comprehension skills are lacking on this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 23, 2024 3:24 AM |
At first I thought it said "prim Catherine Deneuve."
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 23, 2024 3:39 AM |
Her beauty is not some cold, distant ideal; it’s a living, breathing force that draws you in and refuses to let go. Catherine is nothing more than a polished, controlled facade, but Isabelle is a true, rare jewel; a dazzling, untamed force of nature. That is what makes a REAL icon. Adjani is the kind of legend that leaves an indelible mark on cinema, something Deneuve could never hope to achieve.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 23, 2024 3:43 AM |
She was no Capucine.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 23, 2024 3:44 AM |
R10 *
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 23, 2024 3:44 AM |
Her face does look like Grace Kelly's, IMO. Same eyes as Sharon Tate.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | August 23, 2024 3:52 AM |
If we’re talking about French, no. Bardot and Adjani were stunning.
Sylvie Vartan looked like Barbie in the 1960s and she had the cool gap teeth.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | August 23, 2024 3:52 AM |
I always thought Stephane Audran was striking
by Anonymous | reply 53 | August 23, 2024 4:03 AM |
In the 50s, even the US tried pushing Danielle Darrieux as the French superstar. She even took over for Hepburn in Coco on Broadway.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | August 23, 2024 4:11 AM |
I saw Deneuve in person once (mid 80's). She was promoting her new perfume at our mall. She drew a huge crowd, and she was stunning to see in person.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 23, 2024 4:26 AM |
Agree about Adjani. I also think the young Carole Bouquet was very striking.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | August 23, 2024 4:34 AM |
What does DL think of Charlotte Casiraghi's looks? Too masculine?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | August 23, 2024 4:47 AM |
R57, she's very feminine and delicate looking
by Anonymous | reply 58 | August 23, 2024 4:55 AM |
That’s who Deneuve reminds me of, Sharon Tate!
by Anonymous | reply 59 | August 23, 2024 12:51 PM |
1960s Catherine Deneuve is the apotheosis of "pretty". She has perfect skin, perfect eyes, perfect symmetry, perfect hair. She is EXTREMELY good-looking but she doesn't animate any more effectively than she appears in still photos. You're right, R59, Sharon Tate is very similar, only she appears more interesting because we back-read her tragic death onto her face.
For me, beautiful women have many perfections, but offset by some imperfections and augmented by visible personality traits, all of which give them something extra beyond pretty. Audrey Hepburn, Julia Roberts and Diana, none of them pretty, but all beautiful when grave, and absolutely self-illuminated when they smile.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | August 23, 2024 1:34 PM |
R60, yes Diana Ross had an interesting face
by Anonymous | reply 63 | August 23, 2024 4:52 PM |
Jeanne Moreau was an ugly hag who always looked angry and depressed.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | August 23, 2024 6:04 PM |
Emmanuelle Beart has ruined her face with all kinds of shitty procedures.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | August 23, 2024 6:05 PM |
...to the point where she now resembles an opossum
by Anonymous | reply 66 | August 23, 2024 6:07 PM |
Adjani and Beart both had too much work.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | August 23, 2024 7:23 PM |
But Adjani still looks like a resemblance of her former self.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | August 23, 2024 7:45 PM |
I also think Adjani had a look that would never age well. The dark hair, the deep blue eyes, the alabaster skin. However, the young Adjani was beyond breathtaking and perhaps that's why the comparison is so cruel.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | August 23, 2024 8:45 PM |
Does anyone think that Isabella Adjani and Molly Ringwald lookalike?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | August 23, 2024 8:52 PM |
No, you're blind.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | August 23, 2024 9:12 PM |
I could peel you like a pear and God himself would call it justice.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | August 23, 2024 9:15 PM |
She's beautiful but her looks are boring.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | August 23, 2024 11:34 PM |
According to a podcast I listened to, one of the reasons Polanski fell for Sharon Tate was because of her resemblance to Catherine Deneuve. He directed Catherine in “Repulsion” and supposedly wanted to have an affair, but she turned him down.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | August 23, 2024 11:43 PM |
other ethnic types are more beautiful but no women are more elegant and chic than the French.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | August 24, 2024 12:43 AM |
Yes. Thread closed.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | August 24, 2024 12:46 AM |
No. That would be Sophie Marceau to me. But CD had the glamour.
by Anonymous | reply 78 | August 24, 2024 12:52 AM |
R75 that was actually pretty funny for modern day SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | August 24, 2024 12:55 AM |
Juliette Binoche also deserves a mention. I tend to like brunettes (both men and women) more than blonds anyway
by Anonymous | reply 80 | August 24, 2024 1:02 AM |
Juliette is stunning and an amazing actress to boot, which Deneuve is not.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | August 24, 2024 1:04 AM |
Candice Bergen did the Chanel commercial on the first season of SNL.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | August 24, 2024 1:05 AM |
The needle on my beauty detector must be broken, because I'm looking at pics of Adjani on the Internet, and to my eyes, she could have been a receptionist at a phone company.
Deneuve in Umbrellas of Cherbourg was breathtaking.
Sandrine Bonnaire was oddly lovely in her youth--Vagabond captures her in the full glory of her elfin cuteness, complete with gray teeth!
by Anonymous | reply 83 | August 24, 2024 1:08 AM |
No one thinks of Deneuve as an “actress” yet she’s the centerpiece of a number of great movies, including Repulsion, Belle de jour and Tristana. Her chilly, otherworldly glow is enough. As someone said of another star, she has only one note, but it’s a really good note.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | August 24, 2024 1:31 AM |
Why are some people saying that Catherine Deneuve is not a good actress?
by Anonymous | reply 85 | August 25, 2024 12:58 AM |
^^Uh...because she's like an automaton.
by Anonymous | reply 86 | August 25, 2024 3:03 AM |
R86, why an automaton?
