Would you adopt a Russian orphan (baby to toddler age)?

Pretend you want kids (even if you don't)

I wouldn't because the kids over there have a reputation for being messed up, even if you treat them well.

If you’re in the US, Russia will not allow you to adopt. Not sure if they let other nationalities to adopt anymore either.

My friend adopted 4 Russian children who had been horribly abused in orphanages. The 8 year old boy touched her vagina when he was hungry because he performed sexual acts on the adult female workers to get extra food. She put all of them in therapy and today (15 years later) they're all college graduates with great jobs and families of their own. But, oh, the unspeakable horror stories she's told me.

R2 Oh my God. That's WILD. That poor sweet kiddo! Your friend is a saint, I love that there was a happy ending. She must have a certain amount of wealth to have put them all through college?

I went to school with a Ukranian adoptee. He was an amazing human and really cool, but he ended up getting into drugs. This adoptive family wanted to adopt all three of the siblings, but they were only allowed to adopt two of them. So the baby sister that the other two sibs adored was left behind at the orphanage. Pretty sure that messed up my friend pretty bad. The trauma and guilt of it really started kicking in in high school as his brain matured and he was able to comprehend the reality of what happened, and he was haunted by wondering what ever happened to his baby sister.

Russians are psychopaths. It’s genetic. All the drinking. No.

by Anonymousreply 10August 18, 2024 5:01 AM

I’ll pass. Too much risk of it being a middle-aged sex dwarf.

It can go either way. I know two couples who have adopted from Russia. One couple got a kid who was around 6. He had some learning disabilities and behavioral issues…and had to learn English and to go by his new “American” name. I always thought he was a sweet and handsome kid, but one day he just snapped and tried to kill the dad. Since he was over 18, he went to jail. He got out, but I don’t know where he is now.

The other couple adopted a baby girl. The poor thing was severely malnourished when they got her and not “thriving” ..but she blossomed and was a basketball player in high school and is now a nurse, and never gave her parents one bit of trouble.

R8. Her husband was quite well off. When he passed away she spent his money adopting these kids and taking care of them. She never spoiled them which I think is one of the reasons why they turned out so well.

The anti-Russia crap on here is so boring. I'm sure orphans from there are often very damaged, however there are orphanages and care homes in all countries where children get abused, not to mention parental homes where it's just as bad. I live in a wealthy western country, but I know people in the child protection system and you hear horror stories all the time about what is revealed when these kids get fostered to ordinary suburban homes.

Didn't any of you watch The Wire? All four of the children who were the focus of Season 4 were horribly abused, one by the "protection" system and the others by their parents, with tragic results all round, except for the one who was "rescued" by pure luck. Not one of the young people in the five seasons of that show had had anything remotely like a healthy upbringing.

by Anonymousreply 14August 18, 2024 1:58 PM

“The Wire” is a documentary?

Frau alert @ R14

No way - maybe if one is a few days old - but not from an orphanage where they don't get the touch and love kids absolutely require in order to become emotionally developed.

Have a friend who adopted 2 - it's been rocky as fuck. Adopted one at 2 years and one at 18 months - too late in my opinion.

The first 2 years of a child's life is so important - they can get really screwed up if they don't get the love and attention they need.

A friend adopted a Russian boy. Lots of learning disabilities and never went to college. But a decent human now with his own family.

by Anonymousreply 19August 18, 2024 6:56 PM

My friend and his brother were adopted as small children from Russia. His adoptive parents are wonderful but he ended up going into porn and getting into drugs as well. You can still hear a bit of an accent when he speaks. He’s hot though!

by Anonymousreply 20August 18, 2024 7:02 PM

I would never! I dont speak Russian.

by Anonymousreply 21August 18, 2024 7:58 PM

Retarded frau post, ff it to hell, do we want to hear about fucking frau problems, plenty of fucked up babies in America, adopt here.

by Anonymousreply 22August 18, 2024 8:18 PM

And I’ve heard the horror stories of how the Russian toddlers in daycare often band together then try to invade surrounding shops and offices. It’s simply ingrained within their nature as thugs and gangsters.
