Yellow Face
Mickey Rooney always got a lot of hate thrown at him for playing the Asian man in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. And yes, it was a hyper ridiculous performance.
Yet three years later, Tony Randall made 7 Faces of Dr. Lao which has him playing an Asian.
Did Tony’s performance not have the same reaction because Breakfast At Tiffany’s was a major success?

Why just pick out one example? Many years later, Peter Sellers did it in "Murder by Death."

R1, you are right. I just used this one as an example because I’ve recently discovered it.

There’s plenty of things going on now in our culture that will seem offensive to people 75 years from now.

Kate Hepburn in Dragon Seed. The cheekbones were thought to make it work.

OP, Tony Randall's Dr. Lao is not nearly as offensive as Rooney's Mr. Yunioshi. Dr. Lao is a noble, fantastical character, full of wisdom and life lessons. Mr. Yunioshi, with his buck teeth, coke bottle glasses and mangled English ("Miss Gorightry, I protest!") is the Western world's racist caricature of Japanese men, frequently used to express anti-Japanese sentiment during WW2.

Let’s not forget Sean Connery in yellow face in the Bond film You Only Live Twice. He actually looks like a Vulcan from Star Trek but iwas undercover as a Japanese fisherman.
