Biden has gone full Margo Channing.
He was never expected to be there for those speeches. Fake news.

This is dumb. He has shit to do at home - why would he hang around for four days? He can watch on TV.

The Daily Beast? Ahahaha. Punch and delete.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 14, 2024 3:53 PM |
He doesn't even know who the fuck he is anymore. If you listen to the Vegas tapes he probably flat lined there.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 14, 2024 3:54 PM |
He is lucky he was knifed so gently. The hubris of him, his wife, and his team, pretending everything was fine when anyone could see it wasn't. Almost lost the whole country to fascism. May still happen but a fighting chance now.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 14, 2024 3:56 PM |
Did Kamala pretend he was fine?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 14, 2024 4:00 PM |
No she didn't have anything to do with it and who cares r6? She's not his wife or gatekeeper, she's his VP. Even if she noticed things, what was she supposed to do? Hold a press conference and denounce him?

What a loyalist, is more like it. If she did notices things, she kept her mouth shut and supported her boss.
It was up to Biden himself, or his governmental "peers" (Pelosi, Schumer, Obama, etc) who should have gone to him to discuss his issues. Which they did, after the debate exposed him.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 14, 2024 4:15 PM |

The heros are Pelosi, Shumer, and Obama for kicking him out.

I love that they were thorough and sure before they had that talk with Joe. After that speech when it could not be denied, a gracious event occurred. Bless the USA
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 14, 2024 4:17 PM |
The Daily Beast is playing things both ways, like Politico, The NY Times and the Post.
Biden ought not to be there later in the convention. That is not the time for a victory lap for him. He'll speak earlier.
Christ, these click-corrupt assholes in what used to be journalism.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 14, 2024 4:21 PM |
It was a brilliant move by the Dems and it just exposes more that the Republicans have nothing to run on but hate and fear while the alternative is Joy and Hope You guess which wins.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 14, 2024 4:23 PM |
That was a fun read because I love gossip more than the next person, but that's all it was - speculative gossip.
It's more telling that if that's all they have, sucks to be you and be stuck with Trump.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 14, 2024 4:24 PM |
There are a lot of sad Republicans posting these days. It's fantastic. We will be witnessing a blue tsunami in November. Women and folks who are sick of being in an abusive relationship are leaving. It's great to see Trump's plans to cheat & delay certification amplified on social media. I think there are several plans in place to combat that -- but the Dems are keeping it close to the vest. Things are going to be wild when Trump is sentenced on September 18th -- he's really going to lose his dentures. And, the October surprise? Does Taylor Swift go all in & hold a concert/rally for Harris/Walz?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 14, 2024 4:32 PM |
According to an article in the NYT, Joe can only focus between 10am and 4pm.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 14, 2024 4:37 PM |
[quote]I love that they were thorough and sure before they had that talk with Joe.
They were sure the day after the debate. The only reason it got dragged out for weeks was because Biden was doing everything he could to hold on. Pelosi admitted that a couple of days back on the Sunday DC interview circuit.
[quote]There are a lot of sad Republicans posting these days. It's fantastic
There's a lot of sheep posting here as well. I've been a Harris supporter since 2020 (I thought she would have made a good president back then). The groundswell of support here since she announced is nice, but eye rolling at times. I can't remember how many times I've had to defend her competency the last four years because she was being underused by the Biden administration. Which as we now see, was true. There was never a lot of love for her on here.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 14, 2024 4:39 PM |
She HAS TO, fool, R9. That’s part of the VP’s job.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 14, 2024 4:39 PM |
Mighty Joe is going to conserve his energy. He'll be tanned, rested and ready.
Then Monday evening, "Dark Brandon" will let fly a barnburner, Katie-Bar-the Door, full throated speech for Kamala and the Democratic ticket.
And, he's motivated to do it for himself, which is legitimate and understandable.
He'll restate his accomplishments. And, in a very real sense, his legacy is on the line, too, for Kamala. He knows it will redound to his credit when she wins in November.
So, Biden has purpose and duty for his Monday night speech. Old Joe will come through.
He'll show that retreating can be as great a strategic feat as advancing.
And I'll have big, warm, tears in my eyes for every word.

They plan to have Biden and Hillary be the prime time speakers for Mon night. That'll put everyone to sleep. Can't they get someone like Corey Booker to rev up the crowd on the first night??? (In addition to Clinton and Biden).
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 14, 2024 4:57 PM |
it's the first night r23, let's get them out of the way then we'll get the good stuff (Obama, Walz, Harris).
I wonder if they'll have Josh Shapiro speak - he's a great speechmaker.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 14, 2024 5:05 PM |
What's sad about this is that Biden is a better president than either Obama or Republican in all but name Bill Clinton. The fact that his record is ignored because he's an old man that looks and talks like an old man has nothing to do with his accomplishments. I just hope Harris will be as effective and get shit done.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 14, 2024 5:25 PM |
I think they should ask Biden to phone his convention speech in - do it on video tape. What is he has another slurry meltdown? It’s very possible and it will be the talk of the entire week.

Harris is the only person close to Biden with any power or influence that I would give a complete pass to. As the person who would replace him, she would just look like a power hungry back stabber if she raised the issue of his condition.
That doesn’t mean it won’t be a criticism she will face between now and the election, though.

[quote]But if he skips key speeches by Obama and Harris in the subsequent days, then questions will continue to be asked about just how unified the Democratic Party really is after a historically turbulent summer.
Oh please. What a crock of stinking, smoldering shit. The Democratic Party has never been more unified in my lifetime, and yes, that includes 2008 when Obama ran (after pushing Hillary out thanks to the cretins at MoveOn having a coronation for him despite Hillary's decades of service and unparalleled qualifications).
The question I have for the kindergarteners running [italic]The Daily Beast[/italic] is exactly how Biden should show support for other party officials? Should he have a special box seat a la the Queen at a royal performance? Should he return to the White House with a 24/7 camera focused on him watching every last minute of the convention? Or should we have a panel of daily beasts sit in judgement of whether or not Joe has sufficiently satisfied [italic]their[/italic] demands?
The outgoing president gives the keynote speech on Monday night. That's the way it has been whenever an incumbent is not running for re-election and that doesn't change simply because the incumbent candidate dropped out vs. term-limited out.
And the bottom line is that [italic]The Daily Beast[/italic] and the media in general is hell-bent on creating division and chaos when there is none, but has grown weary of the division and chaos that [italic]is[/italic] the Republican party.

If you have a colleague or family member in charge of an important enterprise, and his health is failing such that it is becoming impossible to cover up the fact that he doesn't know where he is, what he's supposed to be doing or saying, just stands there looking completely fucking lost, his mouth wide open and no words on the horizon....
The thing to do is not try to sweep the problem under the carpet and hope nobody notices, or dust off his old record and old action plans and insist they will work again, or to try to shame anyone who sees an old befuddled man who's been robbed of his dignity so that the people around him can maintain theirs. The thing to do is remove him quickly from public scrutiny and responsibility let him use his remaining months in office wisely, let him work when the working is still good for him and he is still able to perform it.
It's not an all or nothing show where we have to be forever grateful and just stand back and say nothing and let Dr. Jill and his son and various White House staff put on a smoke and mirrors, pretending that all is fine with Mighty Joe who for many hours of the day appears not to know his asshole from his elbow. The outcome is this election is anything but certain but now at least there is a chance of success. And thatś the whole fucking point, the present and the future. The past will always be the past and you can crow all you like about Mighty Joe when things are in better hands.
