Wow, he killed off the White Collar revival. Which he was talking about as recently as last week.
Matt Bomer’s Golden Girls remake has been picked up to series

Who gives a shit about White Collar, we all want this show instead!
When can we expect it to air? Sitcoms don't take that long to produce, or do they?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | August 13, 2024 7:53 PM |
So, Matt is playing the Blanche character and Nathan is the Dorothy character?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 13, 2024 7:55 PM |
Bomer is playing the Rose character, the black actor is playing Blanche.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 13, 2024 8:00 PM |
What a step down for Bomer, a low rent sitcom on a low rent streaming platform. His career should be pretty hot right now. What happened?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 13, 2024 8:03 PM |
Hulu? I'll never see this.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 13, 2024 8:07 PM |
The series follows three best friends (Lane, Bomer, Graham) — gay gentlemen of a certain age
Has anyone pointed out that Matt Bomer - at age 46 - is hardly considered to be retirement age? Nathan Lane is 68 while Nathan Lee Graham is 56 (born in 1968).
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 13, 2024 8:08 PM |
I'm not reading anything about White Collar. Both shows would probably just get 10-episodes season orders. Scheduled right Bomer could do both.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 13, 2024 8:11 PM |
Can't wait for the episode discussion threads, bitching over every minutiae of the show. Oh, it's gonna be so lit, mark me.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 13, 2024 8:12 PM |
Why is Bomer doing this? It's just embarrassing.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 13, 2024 8:12 PM |
R7 a series principal cannot commit to star in another series while his contract with the first series is active. If you commit to a series your schedule revolves around the series which is why many actors do not want series commitments. Bomer would be able to do a three episode guest appearance on another series, and he would be able to shoot films during hiatus but he would not be able to star in a White Collar revival in any other capacity than a guest star, until he is no longer a series regular with Midcentury Modern.
Show business 101.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 13, 2024 8:18 PM |
Matt is too young and beautiful for this

It's a job. A paycheck.

$$$ duh
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 13, 2024 8:25 PM |
The queeny black one is supposed to be the promiscuous Blanche character? Would be more believable if Bomer.
I'm sure they'll explain why his character is 20 years younger than the other two. Right?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 13, 2024 8:27 PM |
The three span three decades in their ages. 40's, 50's and 60's. I imagine that could well be a plot point.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 13, 2024 8:30 PM |
The money would not be significant. A multi camera sitcom only makes money if it goes on a broadcast network; then it gets syndicated internationally and sold to streaming. There are so few original mulitcamera sitcoms on streaming because there's no economic incentive.
Bomer, whose career appeared to be going well until this, stood to make more money from a White Collar revival. Given his enthusiasm for that project, it would have made more sense to continue in film roles, limited series and episodic guest arcs until a decision for White Collar had been made.
With Bomer out of the picture for another series until maybe spring, the problem for him is that White Collar will begin to be redeveloped without him. A reboot instead of a continuation.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 13, 2024 8:43 PM |
So this series has nothing to do with the Golden Girls.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 13, 2024 8:44 PM |
But r12 after Fellow Travelers and the other recent projects he's done this is a big step down. He should be landing prestige gigs. This really is embarrassing.
And as others have said, he's only in his mid 40s, too young to be playing a senior citizen.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 13, 2024 8:44 PM |
Why is Bomer doing this?
Maybe because the article says he gets an executive producer credit?
Has anyone pointed out that Matt Bomer - at age 46 - is hardly considered to be retirement age?
It's the same age I was when I quit my high-paying, but horrible white-collar job and never looked back, deciding there were more important things in life and that I'd rather live on a budget than keep doing what I was doing.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 13, 2024 8:44 PM |
So this series has nothing to do with the Golden Girls.
Well, the black one has a face like what I picture Rue McLanahan's pussy to resemble, so there's that.

R19 you won't get this but your take on show business reminds me about the line about the Polish starlet who comes to Hollywood and sleeps with a screenwriter.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 13, 2024 8:47 PM |
I think presenting this as similar to the Golden Girls is creating expectations it can't possibly achieve.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 13, 2024 8:51 PM |
A commenter on Deadline pointed out a point I made in the other thread - how can they make this without being sued by the creators of The Golden Girls?
That EP credit could now expose Bomer to litigation if Nancy Harris - who is still alive - decides to sue.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 13, 2024 8:55 PM |
Sorry Susan Harris.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 13, 2024 8:55 PM |
It may be that Bomer wants to work with Nathan Lane and wants to work with a behind the camera team that is primarily gay.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 13, 2024 8:57 PM |
Yes, because everyone yearns to work with an old, pissy queen who no one has a good word to say about. And screw the material, I always pick my projects based on the sexuality of the key grip.

R10 You can’t contract to do two shows? Has anyone told Cynthia Nixon? Has anyone told Nathan Lane for that matter.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 13, 2024 9:07 PM |
It's nice the buzz is good for pilot, people seem to like it. But Ryan Murphy is always good at first, now that they have to make a whole season let's see how it goes.
What do you mean what happened r4....? Matt Bomer has absolutely never been some A-list with offers being slung at him. Having a lead role on a TV show is great for him.
Some of you live in la la land to think this project is beneath his celebrity.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 13, 2024 9:08 PM |
r31 his career is at a point where he should be doing better projects, given the acclaim his last few projects have had. This is a trash show on a trash streamer. It's beneath him at this point in his career.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | August 13, 2024 9:11 PM |
You just know that Linda Laving will be singing on this show.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 13, 2024 9:12 PM |
Delusional r32.
Getting an Emmy nomination doesn't mean anything. A another Murphy guy, Darren Criss, even won the Emmy. How is his career doing?
He would kill to be cast as the lead in a Hulu show.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 13, 2024 9:13 PM |
r34 this show is trash. It's hackneyed trash. Bomer should be doing better than this.

Nobody knows who the fuck Darren Criss is. Matt Bomer has quite a bit of name recognition at this stage.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 13, 2024 9:15 PM |
Matt should try a Broadway musical. He has a beautiful voice. He'd have been a very good Nicky in "Funny Girl"
a series principal cannot commit to star in another series while his contract with the first series is active.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 13, 2024 9:34 PM |
Cynthia Nixon is able to do both AJLT and The Gilded Age due to both projects being produced and distributed by HBO, both projects being shot in New York and the huge ensemble of The Gilded Age limiting the need for her onset. A unique set of circumstances allowed her to arrange the double booking.
Bomer's sitcom shoots in Los Angeles, he would not have the luxury of saying you can pull him away from Midcentury Modern as White Collar shot on location in New York. They even talked about shooting the new season in Europe. At the development stage, saying he is no longer available to shoot the show on location eliminates him from any involvement with White Collar until he is released from his contract with Midcentury Modern. Therefore, assuming there is in fact a development deal at 20th for White Collar, he will now be removed as a series cast member if the creator did not wish to wait for him.

Not sure why OP is insisting White Collar is dead.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 13, 2024 9:53 PM |
Additionally (this was just posted on Hulu)
His association with this project diminishes his brand, not just because the role is humiliating, but because he is now relegated to a supporting role on a sitcom. Could you imagine Andrew Scott sitting off to the side on the couch like this?
On the Joaquin Phoenix brouhaha there were several commentators on multiple sites wondering why Bomer was not chosen to replace Phoenix, because Fellow Travelers had brought Bomer to a level of recognition as a serious dramatic actor in which this type of casting - picking up after an Oscar winner - seemed realistic. This undoes that.
He Cheyenne Jackson’d himself.
Actually worse because Jackson was on a network.

Christopher Meloni starred in HBO's Oz and NBC's Law & Order: SVU simultaneously.
Niecy Nash appeared in every episode of TV Land's The Soul Man and HBO's Getting On during the same seasons.
Matt McGorry was in Netflix's Orange is the New Black and ABC's How to Get Away With Murder during the same season.

It’s like an all-Coco revue of “The Golden Girls”. I don’t know if it’ll fly. The original sexualized the aged in a startling way. I don’t feel the same vibe from the country, that they are prepared to welcome sexually frank old “queens”. British TV had some success with “Vicious”, but they couldn’t even manage to keep it on PBS, at least in Ohio, here. People might accept cuddly, neutered, sarcastic homosexual roommates, though.

I'm afraid our demographic is not the target market. We're an add-on. This show is really going after millennials and Gen Z, who endlessly fetishize The Golden Girls.
by Anonymous | reply 129 | August 14, 2024 6:59 AM |
Think "Queer Eye". That's the market.
by Anonymous | reply 130 | August 14, 2024 6:59 AM |
So despite previously insisting that this show was a hoax by Bomer's husband to ruin his Emmy chances and would never be made, and then once the pilot was shot insisting this show would never air, the same idiot is all over this thread still pretending he's some kind of industry expert. How many times will you need to be proven wrong before you shut the fuck up?
by Anonymous | reply 131 | August 14, 2024 9:28 AM |
Well , that sounds weird. I'd just love for a good sitcom that isn't too "worthy" to do well for a change.
by Anonymous | reply 132 | August 14, 2024 10:41 AM |
R131 those presumptions were predicated on Bomer not being retarded. I am glad you are enjoying your victory being proven right that he is retarded.
Deadline itself made many of the same points I did, about how unusual a multicam sitcom order is for Hulu. And other people on that site also expressed their surprise that they are not being sued for ripping off The Golden Girls.
Here’s a fun thought:
What if Disney wants to make White Collar without Bomer, so they pick up this, then order White Collar to series without Bomer because he’s now committed to this, then receive a cease & desist from the creator of The Golden Girls (which they would be expecting since they own The Golden Girls), and then cancel the order for Mid-Century Modern citing the litigation threat?

Anything without the two two-fers, Billy Porter and Bowen Yang, is a blessing.
by Anonymous | reply 137 | August 14, 2024 2:07 PM |
Plot twist: Bowen Yang IS Coco in the pilot!
by Anonymous | reply 138 | August 14, 2024 2:14 PM |
No, r138, the opening credits clearly state,
"And Linda Lavin as Coco"
But yes, gone after the pilot.

Caftans!

I don’t think you can claim intellectual property rights over the idea of three friends living together with one of their mothers in a winter vacation destination. However, if they call the men Rose, Blanche and Dorothy, we may have a problem. Of course, three gay men in such a situation probably would call each other Rose, Blanche and Dorothy, but the lawyers probably won’t let them
by Anonymous | reply 141 | August 14, 2024 2:44 PM |
The show announcement made direct comparisons to the characters and the concept replicates the Golden Girls pilot. I don’t see how they can avoid an IP infringement lawsuit, assuming they have not purchased the rights.
by Anonymous | reply 142 | August 14, 2024 3:01 PM |
Quite a risk casting an 86-year-old as the mother.
by Anonymous | reply 143 | August 14, 2024 3:17 PM |
This seems like a mess. Who watches sitcoms in 2024?
It could work if they did it “It’s Always Sunny” style.
But this sounds terrible.

They rebooted Frazier and Will and Grace. Why not a new GG without the disguise?
by Anonymous | reply 145 | August 14, 2024 4:57 PM |
Because we're all dead, Rose.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | August 14, 2024 5:00 PM |
I must have missed the part where Frasier was rebooted as a lesbian in Miami.

Bravo for Nathan on maintaining such a long career. Seems he was in he 50s when I first saw him in a film. He looks great.

Does Nathan live in LA now?

Linda Lavin regularly gave Emmy worthy performances on Alice. She's also a Tony award winning Broadway star.
Having her on brings a level of prestige to the show that otherwise wouldn't have.

Well that's because you're an idiot. Literally everything you claim has been proven to be wrong, but hey, keep banging that same drum until this airs with no legal threats, and you're once again proven wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 154 | August 14, 2024 6:39 PM |
More people would rather see a White Collar reboot than a GG remake.
by Anonymous | reply 155 | August 14, 2024 6:46 PM |
R154 I was only proven wrong because my estimation of Bomer’s appeal was higher than it apparently is. If I had held him in near-worthless estimation like you do, then I wouldn’t have come to those conclusions.
by Anonymous | reply 156 | August 14, 2024 6:53 PM |
I wonder if they'll have episodes with characters that we never hear from again, i.e. Blanche's daughter who wants to be artificially inseminated, Dorothy's son who was young enough to be her grandson, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 157 | August 14, 2024 7:18 PM |
I wonder if one of them will be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

Gay webseries "The Disappointments" now going into it's second season has also been described as a Golden Girls-like.
This comedy/drama series follows the lives of three gay men navigating mid-life and all its trials and triumphs. In the aftermath of a death of a close friend, they must support each other as they self examine their lives and the idea that maybe things didn't exactly go as they had planned. In the spirit of "The Golden Girls", relationships, love, careers, and life can all be humorously contemplated over coffee and donuts with trusted friends.

Working with Nathan Lane, James Burrows and the writing team behind Will & Grace is a great opportunity, and he'll likely have a lot of fun doing it.
by Anonymous | reply 161 | August 14, 2024 10:02 PM |
r156 No, you were proven wrong because you're an idiot. Remember you actually claimed Bomer must have dropped a divorce on his husband and posted photos of Bomer looking upset as "proof"? Idiocy.

I’d rather it not be about the gross fat subset of gay men.
by Anonymous | reply 163 | August 14, 2024 10:08 PM |
R162 that was merely conjecture based on the absurdity of the idea that Matt Bomer would announce he was making a cringeworthy ripoff of the Golden Girls (at 46) in an obsolete format (there are only 4 or 5 live audience sitcoms in production now) which he is not even very good at, on a streamer that had never ordered a multi camera sitcom, at a time of extreme industry contraction, while he was heavily campaigning for both an Emmy nomination for a serious drama and trying to get his old show revived, and have it announced while he was out of the country. It simply made more sense that, given how all the principles save Lavin, were already Halls clients, that Halls had done it maliciously because Bomer was leaving him or he forgot to take his clothes out of the dryer [italic]for the last time.[/italic]
I didn’t even consider the alternatives, which is that Bomer is either widely disliked in the industry and this was the only work he could get, or that he is simply retarded.

R165 Just pointing out that it's not that novel of an idea, and even something like the 2012-18 comedy "Where the Bears Are" featuring the three older gays who shared a home in Silver Lake had some elements akin to it as well.
by Anonymous | reply 168 | August 15, 2024 1:03 AM |
