Unless Merchan has decided that Trump can't be held to account — which will only infuriate Democrats and drive them to the polls with even greater vigor — I doubt that he'll go through with the process, instead issuing another postponement. Surely, Trump's garbage-pail lawyers have already filed for another delay. And frankly, Merchan should have not set the sentencing hearing before the election because no matter how he decides, he'll be accused of election interference.

Merchan can sentence Trump on November 6, set any date for sentencing appeal hearing after January 20 next year, and take him out of commission at least until Kamala is seated, quashing the planned election-deniers efforts.
