R380 - OK. There were a few roles which I think could have been better cast:
Kim Lankford as Ginger - I suppose she was cast primarily for her looks and natural SoCal aura, but she wasn't much of an actress and didn't have a lot of charisma that jumped off the screen. Plus she was probably TOO pretty to play the long-suffering, cheated-on wife of Kenny. Ginger often felt like a younger version of Laura, and one was enough in the early years.
Stacy Galina as Mary Frances/Kate - The whole identical cousin was played straight, God help the writers. And for what? Galina was often the weakest link in any story. She lacked charisma and sexiness, and just came across like a 12 year old in roomful of adults. Was that supposed to be the role? Her naiveté made Val look worldly. Bad, unnecessary character played by a forgettable actor.
Penny Peyser as Amanda - Maybe it's personal, but I just found her incredibly annoying. She also had a goofy, frightened look on her face like she just was kittens being tortured on youtube. Another one with zero magnetism and middling acting skills. Gary's mystery caller could have been SO many things, and yet they ended up with this pointless and soon abandoned character. A mistake all the way around.
Kathleen Noone as Claudia - The actress, while attractive, was no Hollywood beauty and frankly seemed, well, full-figured. It seemed odd that so many men were lusting after her (Galveston off camera, Alex, Nick, some CEO for a few episodes). She was a decent actress but she just exuded housewife from every pore so it was difficult to buy her as a college professor-turned-corporate CEO. I don't know if they meant for Claudia to be the new Abby, but she rated about a 2 on the Abby scale.
Honorable mentions would go to Larry Riley as Frank, Peter Reckell as Johnny (terrible actor), Felicity Waterman as Vanessa, and Chris Lemmon as Jeff,.
There were, on the other hand, many good choices in casting included the above-mentioned Donna Mills (who knew?).
