[quote] Hours earlier, I had been at a South Philly venue where Vance spoke briefly to about 200 supporters and a group of bored journalists. Vance's event was small, mean, and yes, weird, featuring the unjustified sarcasm of the candidate and a desperate feeling reminiscent of the mood at a strip mall shot bar at 2 AM on "ladies' night."
Only 200??? Damn, that's even sadder than I imagined!
[quote] One upside to the Vance event: There was no line to use the ladies' room. Sure, there were women in attendance, but the gender ratio felt like the guest list on Joe Rogan's podcast. There was one kind of diversity in this small but weirdly intense crowd. Every type of white man that gets a hasty "swipe left" on his dating profile was in attendance: 'Roided out dudes with bad tribal tattoos. Older men radiating "bitter divorce" energy. Men with enormous beards that have never known the touch of a trimmer. Skinny fascists wearing expensive suits, despite the oppressive heat. Glowering loners staring at the two women under 40 like cats watching birds out a window.

200 people and many of those were apparently local GOP functionaries.

Yikes. I have this fantasy that many GOP women will just vote for Kamala once they're actually in the voting booth. Imagine telling your grandkids that you *didn't* vote for the first woman president.

by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 7, 2024 12:28 PM |
R6, yep - it is astounding that that's apparently the Vance strategy all week. Kamala and Tim fill battleground-state venues with brand new Democratic joy and fired-up energy... and Vance stalks them creepily from place to place, attracting a pathetic little MAGA turnout.
Meanwhile Trump sits at home all week venting on the Internet, then on Friday he goes to... Bozeman Montana (why?).
All of this is looking increasingly good for Kamala Harris.

"This is Pat.
He was working in the ADA section at the #PhillyForHarrisWalz rally.

Both sides are not the same.
Kindness will win."

Walz knocked it out of the park. I watched a bunch of tiktoks this morning and the youngsters are really loving him. The 'America's Dad' identity is really sticking. Another commenter yesterday that his vibes will make women feel really safe and comfortable, and that's exactly what I'm seeing. Very interesting and unusual how important the VP seems to be in this race for both sides. It looks like Harris is signaling she won't put a damper or a muzzle on him, which I think is exactly right. The traditional thinking is that you'd never allow the VP to overshadow the top of the ticket as an orator or whatever, but I think the Harris campaign should just lean all the way into any and every strength they have. Their great rapport and chemistry provides yet another contrast to Trump/Vance who visibly can't stand being in the same room.

2016 Trump would be stalking Harris-Walz like he did Hillary Clinton in the debates back then. But 2024 Trump does not have the energy or stamina to do that. He's too physically and mentally feeble now at an old 78 years. So he sends his creepy sidekick Vance, who's a charisma vacuum on top of being a weirdo with extremist fringe views.

Apparently, a major troubled/ending relationship advisor has been getting this "ask" quite frequently, lately:
""Can my husband find out who I am voting for in the Presidential Election?" š³ļø
We've been getting this question a lot, so we rounded up some helpful facts. Please share this:
Can my spouse find out who I voted for in the presidential election? *this is not legal advice, but we wanted to share some general information
With the election for President coming up, we have been getting questions about voting - in particular, ācan my husband find out who I am voting for in the presidential election?ā While voter laws vary state by state, we wanted to remind you of a few things:
In a Presidential election, you can vote for anyone on the ballot - and from any party. As an example, if you are a registered Republican, you can vote for the Democratic nominee for President, Vice President, etc; and if you are a registered Democrat, you can vote for the Republican nominee for president. You do not have to change your registered party to vote for a nominee in the other party.
Your voter registration information is public - this can include that you voted, your address, and the party you are registered for.
Now hereās the important part - WHO you actually vote for on the ballot is not public information. You do not need to tell your spouse who you voted for, even if they ask. You can say, āthatās between me and the Ballot Box.ā Your right to vote is part of our civil liberties, and your vote is your own ā that being said, do whatever you need to do to remain safe."

Letās get real. America is a country where a candidate can raise 350 million dollars in 2 weeks. Where a grifting president can make millions selling crap that people do not need. Middle class families are not going hungry. They are doing better than the middle class in most other western countries. Remember that Covid, inflation and war in Ukraine has hit everyone and impacted Europeans to a greater extent.

He's refusing to debate (he knew that his Fox Sept 4 counteroffer would be refused). So debates are out.
After his attempted assassination, and now Kamala beating him bigly in crowd sizes, and he's been so messy and spent at his 2024 rallies anyway, and rumor has it that event spaces are demanding 100% prepayment from him and his campaign, and they're fighting over that -- are rallies out?
Not much left for him but softball interviews with MAGA friendly hosts, and batshit rantings on the Internet.

But -- who at this point is still "undecided"? It's not like a debate will change anyone's mind at this point. The MAGAts are too far gone to be swayed, and they won't watch anything other than FOX News, so probably aren't even aware there's a pre-scheduled debate on ABC.

I still think that assassination attempt was arranged from inside the campaign, complete with photo op rehearsal.
The probably had a marksman take the shot that whizzed right by his head while the kid the poor shot took out the crowd. Or āextrasā as the campaign probably refers to them.

R117: there are voters who don't want to vote for either one, but might be persuaded to (grudgingly) vote for Harris to drive the stake through Trump once and for all; voters currently leaning towards 3rd party, leaving president blank, or not voting at all.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | August 8, 2024 1:10 PM |
R118, that's crazy talk. The facts are that the shooter shot 7 or 8 bullets at the stage with an AR 15 and killed somebody and seriously wounded another, and was killed by the US secret service. And Trump dove down or was taken down to the ground and when he got up, his ear was bleeding superficially.
Occam's Razor (simplest explanation) -- the shooter was real. All of it was real. And maybe Trump's ear was grazed by a bullet but it looked fine some days later. My guess is Trump cut his ear somehow in the chaos, probably when his head connected with the ground or with something rough in the SS staff's uniform. He has a lot of ego investment now in saying it was a bullet but there has been no credible medical backup on that.

True, but any opportunity to show the stark differences between them can help motivate more people to actually get out and vote who might otherwise be complacent. Poll numbers may favor the Dems, but it doesn't help if people don't follow through on election day. The closer the numbers are, the more opportunity for malfeasance from the election deniers.

All true, R120, but somehow Trump's theatrical and distinctly non-cowardly response, from one who notoriously dreads illness and death, keeps one (irrationally?) from ruling out the idea that he knew he hadn't been in danger.
And somebody tell me again why he didn't have his shoes on?
by Anonymous | reply 122 | August 8, 2024 1:26 PM |
R122, exactly, thatās why I think Trump knows his ear got scraped in the ducking/protection chaos, and that he never got shot. He was psyched to discover a superficial ear cut and to his credit he pivoted to bloodied-hero mode right away.
He said one of his shoes flew off when the SS took him down. Probably true if they were ill-fitting platforms!
by Anonymous | reply 123 | August 8, 2024 1:34 PM |
He's cut appearances to connive with his minions.
by Anonymous | reply 124 | August 8, 2024 1:47 PM |
Fair enough, R120, R122 & R123. It seems to be some combination of the above.
The fact is, not many people bought into it, I think precisely as R122 & R123 note - Trump made a meal of it and people didnāt buy into it. His ear was scrapped in the melee with SS and he shouldāve immediately been taken off the stage and hustled to safety. The whole āletās pause here and recreate a famed photoā op thing, frankly, just deflated the entire incident. Even the faithful didnāt buy into for too long and the truly faithful just amplified the silliness of it by taping tampons to their own ears. Thatās when you knew they had failed. If the threat were real, Trump would be a changed man, not someone giving a terrible performance resorting to cheap dollar store theatrics.

I believe that "undecideds" are really people who are going to vote for Trump and just don't want to admit it to anyone. A second Trump term will be no different than a first Trump term. They already know what they're getting and don't care but are too chicken shit to own up to it.

In other words, not what one would call deep thinkers. Anyone who enables Trump in any way is complicit.

Everyone needs to watch that OāDonnell clip, contrasting reporters at Trumpās no coherent answers/no follow ups/no fact checking āpress conference ā vs one of Bidenās in which reporters screamed questions in a frenzied mass.
This is the same Trump who roundly complained that the NABJ were too incompetent to have a working sound system yet no one could hear what the reporters asked at his show.
God what a disgusting man.

I can deal with MAGAs; it's just the secret MAGAs who bother me because you know they are lurking everywhere but are smart enough to be on the DL about it. Right now, some of your friends and family members are MAGA, and you have zero clue.

R110 Cops...are so stupid. A purple tie used to mean the wearer was gay.
And if one is gay, depending whether it's worn on the left or right, the hanky code says purple means piercer or pierced. Whereas magenta covers "suck my pits" vs "armpit freak."

R139, I have sworn off TV political news shows, but often in the morning when I am having a late breakfast, I will go to You Tube and check out a few that I trust like MAddow or LAwrence. I saw this today and quickly mailed it to all my cousins...except the 6 MAGAs. But I told the ten people a sent it to to forward it to more people. I love how LAwrence said we need to "Crush" these enablers on social media and hold them accountable. One of my cousins said the media must have got the message because today all the reporters were t alking about how crazy Trump was. I told her that she was missing the point. They always gossip about him after the fact. But they never confront him or treat him the way they go after Biden, Hillary, etc.
